Oh and Nova, thx for the advice, the lay-out is now neatly in order again :).

Well, a few years back I also came up with fictional MK games that had a minimum of 30 characters, but I've kind of departed from that idea. I'm not sure more is always better. Each character should add something distinct, something another character doesn't have and should - in my opinion - have a good storyline to match (also look at my Q&A in the beginning of my series of postings).
Sure, if you have other ideas I'm willing to incorporate them into this project, it has happened before (e.g. Hachiman and Johnny Cage replaced a fictional Red Dragon called Savage and an altered Drahmin, respectively at the suggestion of my brothers). But of course characters would need to replace another one, and I personally like the way it is now, with perhaps some minor room for manouvring or replacing. But why not, you can always send me what you'd like and even if I don't agree with it, feel free to post your stuff on this board.
It's a free world, after all ;).

BunnyHaetsU - Ramblings of a man who probably shouldn't be allowed into society.
A lot of character aspects I find would be a real twist or addition to the storyline. Nitara turning evil, Cage being the one who defeated Tsung, and Sonya dying, wether agreed upon or not, definitely would turn the story in a new direction.
I like a lot of the options that are avaiable, such as forcing good vs. evil, Earth vs. Outworld, in vs. matchups. I would add that if the stages would give advantage to a certain character, to just have the stage randomly selected and not openly available, so that if you get your stage, good for you. I probably would've added a few more stage fatalities as well, anything with fire works.
The endings are well done and show off what will happen at the end, although some like Noob's just end without any major development, but maybe just to leave us wondering what did happen at the next installment.
The sub-bosses remind me of Nightmare in Soul Calibur. If you've ever seen images of him, he sometimes rides a unicorn.

I won't go into too much detail about everything, but overall you've done an excellent job of putting this together, and I'm sure the Dragon Points you got were well deserved (everyone who helped you deserves some too, you should ask CCShadow to include those guys). Nice work.

Agreed. It would be a bit unfair to have one player be able to select "his" background.

Your criticism is quite justified here. I wasn't entirely pleased with my endings for some of the evil characters myself. Throughout MK they usually end up the same way, killing the good guys and then killing each other :). It was hard to think of new twists here and there.
That Nightmare image rocks. I own Soul Calibur (the first one) myself and Nightmare's one of my personal favourites there.

Thanks, your input is appreciated! I'm a bit on a natural high now that I've discovered I've become a warrior ;).
I'll pass on a list with important people whose ideas I used later through pm (they are also listed in my postings but a bit scattered).

It takes an idiot to do cool things. That's why it's cool.

Sub-Zero and his elder brother were born in America but taken to China by their father, who was also a member of the Lin-Kuei. That explains, for instance, why Sub-Zero is white and not Chinese :).

Like Hatshepsut (hot-chet-sep-soot) or Tawosre (ta-woos-ray). Bo' Rai Cho is a play-on-letters with the spanish word for drunk. I have no idea what it is, all I heard was Ed Boon speaks Spanish and did it from that.
Great idea. And nice to see Ermac back! :)

| ColdBlooded Wrote: VainQueur, this is a totally sweet idea. I love it, I gotta hand it to you. 1 question(not a critisicm, just a curious question), howd you pick which characters were gonna be in it. But overalll you got somin really cool goin. Good work. |
Ah, how was the selection made...
I had about 50 existing characters to choose from, and about 35 fictional characters. I decided to limit myself to a max. of 25 playable characters.
From those 50 I eliminated those I thought had no real potential anymore for the storyline I had in mind or didn't interest me. Then I kept narrowing them down, each time eliminating other characters which were either redundant to the story or would, gameplay-wise, add nothing new or spectacular. In my opinion perhaps the major letdown is that Kitana didn't make it through the selection process. She is quite a unique character in terms of gameplay, but I had too much trouble putting together a story for her.
Then, I repeated the same process for my fictional characters. I also tried to balance everything out, i.e. not to have too many ninjas, not to have too few evil characters or too many new faces, etc etc.
Of course, some characters were instant musts. Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Jax, Quan Chi, only to name a few. Of the fictional ones the list was fixed pretty quickly. Or I transferred some characteristics from fictional characters to existing ones (like Nitara, who is actually a fusion of her old self and a fictional char. called Banzai). I hope this sheds some light on the issue :).

| Dauntless Wrote: Your characters and idea is very interesting. I skimed over it and read what looked interested. I like most of your original characters and how you tied them into the backstory of Mortal Kombat. Lord Shadow and Valin Vijar are my favor. Though, being an Egypt-buff, Valin Vijar doesn't come close to anything I've ever heard in Ancient Egyptian. If you want to go for a real, authentic feel, try looking up some little-known female pharaohs and rewording their names. :) |
Thank you for the tips. Egypt is a topic of interest for me, too (although I'm much more into Rome and Greece) and I fully realise that Valin Vijar doesn't sound Egyptian (or Hamito-Semitic) at all :). Actually Unas (my brother) and I really had a problem thinking of a good name for her (and actually she was originally going to be a man).
Lord Shadow is one of my personal favourites too, along with Hachiman (my fictional character Hann resembled him so much that I renamed him into the sketch character in the MK:DA kontent :)).

After exchanging some pm's with Dauntless, I decided to rename Valin Vijar to Irikara Neferu*.
However, seeing that she is mentioned in a lot of my parts posted here, I didn't have the heart (and time) to go and edit them all. Soo... I'm just saying that it should be changed in your minds now ;).

* this form is not entirely grammatically correct, I believe, but the alternative (Nefert) sounded unpleasant to my ears, so I took a little liberty there :-F
