Okay so I jsut went and bought the game, and played for a while at Play n Trade (which pwns Gamestop). I went 5-1 and played as Deathstroke, Batman, and Scorpion, while opponents played at Sub-Zero, The Joker, The Flash, and Batman, here's my review in categories
gameplay: 9/10 while not the most fluent animations, the gameplay was simplistic and sweet, always fun.
Combos: 8.5/10 easy to perform, and easy to figure out
Balance: 6.5/10 it was clear that a tier list COULD be made, with Batman somewhere near the top, while each character had good pros and cons, two characters whose gameplay really stuck out was Batman and Sub-Zero. They're powerful and easy combos dominated, while they're good special moves helped in long range fights.
pacing (strange category) 8/10 thanks to klose and freefall kombat, the action never let up, however, at long range, when you don't know most of the specials, or it was easy to sidestep, people wouldn't come close, and it was a drab shootout
Playability 9/10 A simple pick up and play game, whoever you choose, you could easily learn to use them properly and pwn faces, while mastery of a character made you even better.
Overall (not an average) 9/10 the perfect fighter for veteran's or newcomers to the franchise or even the fighting game genre. If you think I'm being too nice, I implore you to give a controller to a first time player and see how they do. The controls are slik, and combos and moves are broad and easy to do at the same time. This is a definite for any MK fan (Give it a chance Ahnka, Deathbearer, and those others who dismiss the game for whatever reason) It's the best MK game since the 2D days.

It IS the best in a long, long time. The fighting is excellent. I find the Kombo mode to be very unforgiving though, as in, you even move the pad in any direction other than they recommend and you will fail it, regardless if all the hits make it.
Way too early to talk about balance, until people really take the time to learn all the characters.
Course, the game sucks and is complete garbage if you are an emo slipknot slave that cries at the lack of extreme gore because it doesn't fit your tough facade.
Been trying to use Green Lantern the most, but Captain Marvel is really fun. Joker has the biggest special move list and can even taunt for more rage. Batman can be really brutal. Sub Zero feels great.

What good the DC heroes did to the franchise??
If the gameplay is new, we can praise Midway
If only DC heroes were out and we get blood and brutality this could be the best MK ever...

Er, it is the best in comparison to the last 3 if you ask me. What is wrong with the gameplay? Feels amazing while playing it.

Dude I've hated DC since before I became a maggot okay? Slipknot is nowhere near emo. I'm getting pissed about that stereotype.
And as I've said about 3572 times, I'm renting it. If I like it I might buy it when the price goes down.

Slipknot has nothing to do with gore or the fan's excessive desire for it in MKvsDC. Gore and violence is just something they've come to expect from the MK games and that hasn't changed much now. Besides... have you been living under a rock? Maybe you just don't know or understand anything about rock music (but you enjoy bashing it for whatever reason) because Slipknot has cleaned their act and music since Volume 3... and never in their careers have they (or their fans) been EMO. Do you know what EMO is?
Let's be honest, I think everyone here was shocked when they first announced the game would be Rated T. Of course, if you're like me you'd get over it in a day... but then there are some devoted MK fans who really want that whole macho feeling of "Fuck you ESRB, I MADE YOU WHO YOU ARE AND I WILL ADD ANY FUCKING DEATH AND DESTRUCTION I WANT INTO MY GAME!" but what we got is another standard T rated fighting crossover.
I'm a fan of (mostly old) Slipknot, and I don't think it's complete garbage. In fact, I'm one of the few that has supported this game since the beginning... whereas others, who probably don't listen to Slipknot, have been trashing this game since Day 1. Everyone has his or her own reason for liking or hating the game... it has nothing to do with music. Please don't be ignorant and stereotype.

I think they did a pretty good job on this game.
The animation and some controls are pretty stiff. You notice it right away after playing other games for so long. The feeling seems to go away while focusing on the fights though.
The combat is pretty intense too, I like it.
I wouldn't say the game play is on par with Sega or Namco's fighters, but it's definitely a big step up in my opinion.

This is what I meant, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was going in this general direction, because I am SO sick of the bitching. The fighting is wicked in this game, and I am speaking about skill curve here.
I am nowhere near good yet, but if you see me in any matches, I always play Green Lantern so far.
