Wait, I think I'm putting it together. I think Sub-Zero's ending comes true, I think he might be the one who defeats Blaze, becoming a god without their consent (Taven was supposed to become a god). So they send their champion to kill Sub-Zero, who's Scorpion, but Scorpion's angry at them.
But where could Scorpion's story go from there?

Scorpion indeed refuses to be their puppet any longer, and knowing that the Lin Kuei had nothing to do with his clan and family's massacre, he officially vows to protect Sub-Zero.

I've never understood why so many people think Scorpion is the best MK character. And who knew one character could gain so much popularity just by throwing a rope-thing and yelling "get over here" in a deep voice. Wow! *rolls eyes*
First of all, he doesn't have the best look. Of all the male ninjas, Sub-Zero has the best look. He looks far more mysterious and powerful when masked (except in MKD), especially in his alt costume from MK:DA.
Second of all, all his special moves are boring. His spear move is exactly like Smoke's in MK3 but nobody made a fuss over Smoke's spear. Why? Cuz he doesn't scream "get over here." It's an overall cheap move anyway.
Third of all, his story is about revenge for his family, which is fine, but if he's doing something out of his pain over loved ones, then why does he always appear so evil? His alignment is usually neutral, but if you think about it, he should really be a good guy because his doing something out of love for his family. LOVE! But he's freakin' evil. I think even Ed Boon thinks Scorpion is evil since he gave him an evil alignment in MK:SM.
And finally, the reason why he's so popular is because he's been so souped up in the past few games. A mean they never give any other characters any publicity or a chance to be possible MK icons BUT HIM and sub-zero.
And you know what? He always reminds me of Wolverine: They both are good guys that come off as savagely aggressive bad-boys. They both have cheap boring powers (claws and a rope). And they both have these seriously rebellious, I-do-it-my-way, I-go-on-my-own attitudes. I mean Scorpion is pretty much the same loner Wolverine is, but at least Wolvie has been in teams. Scorp has never been known to team up with any other MK characters. Have u guys noticed that? He's always his own solo act. Nothing but egos those two men have.
Anyway, I use to like him as just a character of Mortal Kombat, but now that he is THE character of Mortal Kombat, I hate him. Like Wolverine, also. I wouldn't mind Wolvie as a supporting character, but as the star of X-Men, then yes, I hate him. They're too alike, except Scorp looks better. Although they've never shown his face so I don't know if he's really handsomer that Wolverine or not, cuz Wolvie's ugly ('cept in the movies... oh baby.)

Scorpion is a tragic character, people like tragic characters. He was murdered in cold blood and returned as a spectre to avenge his death... people like spooky-stuff too.
::EDIT:: Scorpions are also pretty infamous creatures that lend alot to fantasy and horror, so I'm sure that greatly contributed to Scorpion's success.
All of Scorpion's designs stay pretty close to the source, while all the other ninjas have been overhauled. And how safe would it be to completely re-design the series' first ninja? People have had mixed reactions over Sub-Zero's costumes.
No, Smoke's spear is exactly like Scorpion's.
Evil is trying to take over the world and/or bring harm to people, good is the polar opposite. Scorpion cares for neither, he's neutral. His only concern is his revenge.
::EDIT:: And MK:SM isn't canon, they just needed an excuse to involve Scorpion.
It's not the MK team making Scorpion and Sub-Zero icons, it's the people. The MK team were trying to make Liu Kang the star, then Kung Lao, then Shujinko, then Taven, but it always comes back to Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
::EDIT:: Also, Scorpion wasn't the easiest character to use in the first 7 games. His Spear was nice for a free hit, but didn't work on everyone and was kinda slow and did almost no damage. His Teleport Punch was situational, and his Air Throw was almost unusable by casual players and didn't work on bosses.
He'd get a new attack in MK4 where he'd breathe fire at you, but it had a short range and was easy to avoid.
Scorpion would go virtually unchanged for 7 games until MK:DA, when he got the Backflip Kick and Summon Hellfire, but lost the Teleport Punch, Air Throw, and Fire Breath. He'd get his Teleport Attack back in MK:D, but his Spear is still useless against some characters in the past 3 games.
So as you see, despite his popularity, Scorpion has had some of the suckiest moves in all the MK games.

I really did like Scorpion in the beginning. I felt his character was really starting to develop after he joined Shao Kahn's army in UMK3, then left when he saw Sub-Zero on the other side. That was the Scorpion I would have loved to see. He did play a pretty significant role in MKDA, I guess. Fending off Quan Chi for some time should have helped, but it did not do a whole not.
I can understand him going to kill Quan Chi in MKDA, but the revenge scheme is a bit old. He's a very tragic character, yes, but they're drawing out that lone wolf deal too much.
Personally, I would have wanted to see Scorpion pursue the anti-hero style in the right manner. Sure, he's neutral, but he doesn't really contribute anything to the story anymore. He's going after Quan Chi, but he hasn't killed anyone other than Sub-Zero, and didn't kill Onaga, and is just sort of doing his own thing.
And that gets really lame after a while. When I saw his MKD ending, I really thought he would be the right kind of anti-hero: the lone wolf who doesn't associate himself with others, but still has some degree of honor and good-hearted intentions. If he fought with conviction against Quan Chi, not to claim revenge, but say, to prevent Quan Chi from further harming people, or creating another duplicate case (murder someone's family and clan), then I'd really like him.
When a character doesn't care for anyone else other than himself, no one cares about him. He hasn't contributed anything worthwhile to the story, and has really lost his head since the older games.

Scorpion would make a great anti-hero, and it would be an awesome day for it to finally happen. So I stick to my theory for MK8...
Sub-Zero defeats Blaze and becomes a god, which angers the elder gods since he wasn't supposed to be a god and Taven was supposed to ascend. They send their champion to kill him, but Scorpion refuses to be their puppet (they never revived his clan and family, even as undead). The elder gods find a new champion to kill Sub-Zero, and Scorpion vows to officially protect Sub-Zero, especially now since Scorpion knows the Lin Kuei are innocent for his clan's demise.

The only way to keep Scorpion coming back, in my opinion, is if he changes his role completely. If he actually turns similar to Liu Kang, claim the role as Champion of Mortal Kombat, that'd be an interesting twist, and probably the best role for him in my opinion.
He doesn't have to have a turkey voice or be totally in sync with his respective realm, but that'd be an excellent role change for someone who deserves it. Though it'd probably lead to a climactic battle with someone like Quan Chi in the end, who seems to be growing in power with every game, and everyone is happy.
Scorpion is in need of a major overhaul though. The one thing I do enjoy about him, though, is his amazing armor in MKD/MKA alternative. That looks really amazing, and I didn't think that might be his "Champion" armor until recently.

I don't know...I personally don't like the idea of Sub-Zero becoming a god. If Scorpion is going to have to do anything with Sub-Zero, it should be to help him take down Noob Saibot. Scorpion is no longer their Champion due to the whole ordeal between them.

I'd rather Scorpion not become the Champion of Mortal Kombat. I think it's rather out of place for his character. It's not like it would interest him, and the responsibilities of being Champion would bound him, taking away his freedom.

Actually, making Scorpion the champion of Mortal Kombat could be interesting. A loner compelled by honor to defend a title he probably doesn't want, but isn't willing to give up.
Or... Noob Saibot's trying to kill Sub-Zero and Scorpion feels responsible for Noob Saibot's creation, so he officially vows to protect Sub-Zero. That sounds great to me!

Ok, I posted this in another topic, but I like it so much that I thought I should pop it in here too.
Noob Saibot's bio could be something like...
"in my life, I was almost invincible, having defeated even gods. But there was one who finally conquered me, Scorpion. I hold no grudges against him, for he is the one that freed me from being a tool of the Lin Kuei.
Recent events have pushed Scorpion's mind and soul to the breaking point, making him a creature of pure rage and vengeance... so much so that he agreed to my offer. With him as my ally, no one can stop us from siezing the netherealm.
And with him being so reclusive, I see myself ruling the netherealm alone."
Scorpion's bio could be something like...
"I have been manipulated and decieved since I became a spectre. The only thing that never betrayed me was my own anger, which has fueled me through my journey... and now I have been offered a new path.
Noob Saibot, a former ally during Shinnok's war against the heavens, has proposed a partnership. Together we will rule the netherealm, but I do not want to rule anything, it is what comes with the title that I seek.
As the ruler of the netherealm, I will possess the power ro resurrect my clan and family. No longer will I rely on others to achieve this goal, I will do it myself."
Sub-Zero's bio could be like...
"It was my brother that created Scorpion, so how ironic it is that Scorpion created Noob Saibot... but does Scorpion recognize who he allies with? In life and in death, Scorpion has been an enemy of the Lin Kuei, so why would he ally with my brother? I know Scorpion to be honorable, which makes these new events so confusing.
But whatever the situation requires, I and the Lin Kuei will be ready. We will not let my brother realize the twisted ambitions he holds, nor will I allow Scorpion to do the same."
Scorpion's, Sub-Zero's, and Noob Saibot's endings will all confirm the same thing... Scorpion has the crisis of conscience we want. He will release his desire to have his clan returned to him in order to do something that's more important than himself... help Sub-Zero stop the creature he inadvertently created!
Noob Saibot's ending could be something like...
"So now Scorpion and I are once again at each-other's throats, I do not believe fate will ever let us stop our endless battle. However, I may be able to change that. Scorpion's a brutal and devastating warrior, which set him so much apart from the other Shirai Ryu... but this will now be my advantage.
We are the rulers of the netherealm, but he hasn't even attempted to use that power against me. The netherealm changed us both differently after our deaths, but I will start over with Scorpion. I'll return him to life, and then with his death I will transform him the way I was."
Scorpion's ending could be something like...
"Though I just want to undo the tragedy that struck my family and clan, I cannot allow Sub-Zero to take responsibility for everything I had done. It seems now that even my own anger betrayed me, the one thing that I thought I could always rely on.
It is my own thirst for revenge that created Noob Saibot, and now the injustice that fell upon my clan and family is now going to fall onto the Lin Kuei and the world unless I do something. And while Noob Saibot has grown very powerful in the netherealm, I have aswell. Sub-Zero and his allies will not be fighting this alone."
Sub-Zero's ending could be something like...
My brother has become the new ruler of the netherealm with Scorpion's aid, and Noob Saibot now attacks the Lin Kuei temple, attempting to eradicate the only remnant of his former life. But thankfully the power that the throne offers wavers the farther he is from that throne, which means that I am almost his equal in the Earthrealm.
The Lin Kuei and I fought valiantly against Noob Saibot and his demonic forces, but to my suprise, it was Scorpion who turned the tide of battle. But during the battle, Noob Saibot returned Scorpion to life... stripping him of the power he gained from the netherealm, but Noob Saibot was still unable to deal the finishing blow. For despite the loss of power, Scorpion's fighting skills have improved immensly since his death, and together we will stop Noob Saibot."

Edit: After MKA, Scorpion has quickly become one of my least favorites.

I think what most people don’t like about Scorpion being pissed at the elder gods is because it’s basically unfeasible. Which is why they choose certain mortals to be involved for them. And even if Scorpion kills the elder god’s chosen one and thwarts their plans for the time being, the elder god’s may simply just find another one, becoming an endless cycle.
If both Scorpion/Sub-Zero continue this route, that’s not a bad idea GraveDigger. But where does it go from there? Is Scorpion going to be on a never ending quest against the elder gods until they fully revive his family/clan? And even if they revive his family/clan, then he pretty much has no more reason."
I don't think the elder gods are any more powerful than other gods. The four elementals (including Fujin) were defeated by the elder Sub-Zero, a mortal being. And Raiden was defeated by two mortal sorcerers
And it isn't the elder gods that created existance, everything was born of the One Being, including the gods. Everything appears to be the One Being's dream, and the elder gods are trying to make sure the One Being never wakes up. One of the ways they do this is by limiting how much they interfere with the realms and mortals.
And that's what was so dangerous about Onaga. If Onaga merged all the realms together, the One Being will wake up. But if the elder gods took matters into their own hands, they may accidently awaken the One Being themselves.
That's why they created the "Mortal Kombat" tournament when Shao Kahn started conquering realms, and why they sent Scorpion to stop Onaga... and this is also why I believe the elder gods never revived Scorpion's clan, even as undead. Doing something like that may be very risky.
As for my first draft, I've kinda abandoned that for what I believe is a superior story that achieves the same goal we all desperately want. Now I think maybe Taven should just become the new protector of Edenia and have Sub-Zero do his own thing.
But I wasn't trying to create an entire story-line like I did today with my new ideas, I was just throwing ideas around.

The three of them in my story have their history tied to one-another, but that has been forgotten until recently.
Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot have established a fued in MK:D and Scorpion is spiraling out of control. I think it's the perfect time to bring them all back to their roots.
In my story, all of the past events have driven Scorpion from being a self-rightious loner to going border-line insane, and is starting to go down a road of becoming a new major enemy in the MK world.
However, the endings reveal that knowing Noob Saibot's true identity and the attack on the Lin Kuei temple has snapped Scorpion to his senses. He's starting to own up to everything he has done, and is giving up on his own desires to fix everything he's responsible for.
Sub-Zero couldn't have stopped Noob Saibot's attack without Scorpion's aid, however Noob Saibot doesn't want to lose such a powerful ally, and the combination of these events has given Scorpion new life at a very bad time.
If my story comes to pass, MK9 will feature Scorpion with a new problem... risking his newfound life to keep his vow of helping Sub-Zero make everything right. This story will show what Scorpion is truly made of.

One thing I always wondered about concerning Scorpion doing his job in MK:D.I'm assuming the elder gods gave him more power to defeat Onaga and he failed obviously before Shujinko beat him to the punch officially(despite if Scorpion helped or not which they really didn't confirm) yet anyway. Perhaps they'll elaborate in Scorpion's bio once it's ready.
Anyway, Scorpion is an MK icon. He's badass alone for that reason, his infamous "GET OVER HERE" and "COME HERE" is as classic as the MK series itself.
I remember when people knew or heard of MK alone for that reason, people would talk about either Scorpion or Sub-Zero.
Scorpion is as badass as Ermac and Sub but in a different way.
But yeah Scorpion is a cool character in my book.

Sorry to be off topic but... awesome, another Deadpool fan!!
If my avatar and sig worked, I'd have Deadpool stuff.
::sigh:: I was going to be "Deadpool," but I thought "GraveDigger" would be more fitting for a MK forum. lol.

Yeah, I know. I enjoy reading these ideas you've been coming up with, pretty cool takes on where Scorpion could go in the future.

Thank you very much.

Scorpion has always been my favourite ninja and MK character.
He must be back in the next MK but with other goals.
I understand he wants to kill Quan Chi for good but one question though:
Why didn't he try to kill Noob Saibot too. I'm sure he knows he's Sub-Zero's brother.
He first should have allies. This would make him much attractive.
The elder gods had transformed him into their weapon but why could he become the new god of fire?

You're sure he knows that Noob Saibot was once the Older Sub-Zero? How??!! Sure, they both worked for Shinnok during MK4, but did they cross paths? If so, did they really interact? If so, how much interaction went on between them?
When it comes to him having allies...the questions that come to mind are "who?", "how?", and "why?".
What would make attractive is if they get rid of his idiotic persona and return him to the way he was before.
Yes, the Elder Gods transformed him into their weapon. It was so that he could destroy Onaga, thus preventing the destruction of the realms.
Why could...You mean why couldn't he become the new God of Fire? Why would the Elder Gods want to do that? What purpose would that serve?

What is sure is Scorpion must be in MK8.
Why? Cause he's a legend like Sub-Zero.
What I like about him is the fact he takes things in hand though his problems with Quan Chi are still unresolved. In other words, he's a tragic character but also positive.

I prefer Scorpy's insanity. I even pushed this insanity to borderline paranoia in my comics. The cred for his paranoia goes to DiceP for his animations. In an interview comic I made, he says,
"Listen, man, you don't know what it's like to be me! I get killed, get my family killed, get vengance, get screwed over, try to get revenge, get my ass handed to me by some friggin' Oni, get spared and conned by the Elder Gods, and a ton more!"
As for him story-wise, I like the psychotic hellspawn bent on revenge.
