now look i love mk just as much as all of you do, but you guys have to admit: the series is getting a little bit dried up. i mean there are only so many ways they can take this whole 3d thing before that gets old too. take deadly alliance for example. a great game, no doubt, but the fun factor of it wears off after awhile. i mean once you unlock all the characters it is pretty pointless to unlock, or do anything else in the game. now, i see it like this mortal kombat decepetion better give MK the shot in the arm it needs otherwise its going to end up in the bargain bin along with the other carbon copy fighting games of ere. now this is in no way a flame or an insult to all of you. its just a loyal fan of the series hoping that this time around the game has as much longevity as oh say, MK2. now if you guys decide to respond to this all i ask is that you please dont tell me i dont know what i am talking about, its an opinion and i have a right to have one, 2 please dont you even dare try to tell me about ' all the new modes and features' this one will have i heard that before, finally ( for those of you who are still with me) just try to respond in a matter in which suggest that you posses a mind. its simple, really...

That's why the MK Team has been working so hard in making extra games along the side (Puzzle Kombat, the Kombat Chess game) to add longevity, not to mention the new Konquest mode which has been quoted as being "enough to be a game in itself."
Seriously though, I think it's more fun to learn the ins and outs of a fighting system and to just see what is possible in the way of creating new juggle combos and such.

I think u make a valid argument. MK has been around for quite a long time, and it does need some tweaks to keep it going. Of course, I disagree with you about MKDA. I still play it, and I think it is still really fun. But anyway, I really think the Konquest Mode is going to give all the replay value anyone needs. If dont correctly, of course. Either way, I love MK and will continue to do so. That being said, I am willing to have any change done if it means the series will be improved.
You think too much. Go try to find fault in something that maybe matters.
You know ... there's a war going on. Why don't you analyze it for a while?
I'm still playing MKDA. Its a great game. All the MKs are, except maybe MK3 and that Mortal Kombat Mythologies thing, but they're all perfectly fine. The brains up in Midway know enough to keep new things coming and to make it interesting.

Why do you feel MKII has more "longevity" than MK:DA ? I'm just curious.

Ni hao!
I would have to say that I agree with you. I do think that the MK Team will address your and our concerns through the way of adding new mini games to MKD. MK:DA to some extent still has some replay value, however I will agree that once everything is unlocked, then it's mostly (at least for me) is about finding new combos and juggles. That can get tedious after a while.
I'd have to say that the gameplay is the primary area that would make it truly memorable and to my knowledge, they have improved upon the the MK:DA engine tremendously.
In addition to gameplay, I think the variation of moves and fatalities from not just one frontal position would expand the capabilities of the 3D plane.
I would hope that the MK Team has our best expectations in mind while still working on the game. It'll be when the game is realeased where we'll see how much lasting power the game really has.
C'est tout!

Well... I believe that they'll deal with the gameplay issue in MKD and make it smoother than MK:DA. However, rest assured if it's not as good as we all are hoping it to be, you won't be the only one voicing your disapproval.

everybody knows MK2 was the best one. Lots of finishers, levels, the best roster of characters is any of the games (aside from trilogy obviously) and addictively simple play mechanics. Everybody could do everything in that game, it was really more about timing and skill than 'I know all these moves, and you don't' which I found some of my less hardcore gaming friends spit at.
Also, the Fatals in MK2 were more realistic than a lot of the other games. MK3 was a kick in the pants when it came to fatalities. I couldn't stand how you'd cut off their heads and they'd stand there, or you'd cut them in half, and their arms would be hanging in the air from the elbows down (I really can't understand how that was even ALLOWED in the game)
In MK2 fatalities were much more rewarding because it seemed like the opponents reaction was generally the right one, the characters in MK2 seemed a lot more lifelike than most of the other games (MK:DA started to bring that feel back) and so you grow more attached to them, which brings longevity to the game as well.
I like all of the gmaes but MK2 was the best.

yea ok, you may not care but the appeal of the game is what sells it and what makes ppl come back for more. like metal gear solid. it could have the coolest characters, gadgets, and graphics around but if the appeal isnt there ( the gameplay) no one will want to play it. examples of a game that had appeal but lost it was ( and i say was becuase when was the last time you played a good version of this) the street fighter series. i mean come on, the last good SF game was alpha 3 ( in my opinion) when was the last time you went out and bought a SF game and got totally geeked about it? a great example of a game that had appeal ( thanks to the movie) but ultimately sucked was enter the matrix. dont even let me get started on that piece of crap. all im saying is that MK could have all the coolest characters, levels, fatalities and all that other good stuff, but if it plays like crap no one will care. in the end all i hope is that mk doesnt get as boring and as overdone as the SF series ( whos about to make another one of those lame crossover games with SNK, god capcom after MVC2 that was it)

Capcom is also supposed to team up with Sammy to make a Street Fighter vs Guily Gear game......

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike >>>>>>>>>>> SF Alpha 3.
Not only was the animation equal to that of a Disney movie but the gameplay got an added boost thanks to the parrying system. The slower pace and better characters simply made it the most playable SF game ever.

Here is the key. It has to be enjoyable to play, and it has to be more 3D-ish. Because of the jump from mk4 to a 3D mk5, it was an instant hit. Now its appeal must carry forward, or mortal kombat games will become nothing of a classic good thing in the future/

Unfortunately this thread has been divided into two sides:
-Rabid fanboys who can't accept flaws in MK
-Those few rational people who take the time to read your post and understand where you are coming from
I happen to be in the latter category...you make very good points. I got bored with MKDA in about 5 weeks. After all the fighters and arenas were unlocked, what was left? The Krypt was full of so much useless crap that I didn't even bother finishing the last 150 koffins or so that I had left.
As for the people who can't grasp how MKII has 'more longevity', well...look at it this way. I haven't played MKDA in over a year. And to this day, I play Mortal Kombat II on a weekly basis. I think that's saying something right there.
I think what he is trying to say here is that Mortal Kombat has always been filled with empty promises. They always say they're going to do this, or do that, to improve the game...and when we get the game its still unfinished and mediocre. He's right about how the fatalities were so ridiculous in MK3. And look at MK4...that game was barely a test to see how MK translates to 3d...or in MK4's case, 2.5d. And then we wait a while and get MKDA...it was supposed to be a return to the darkness of MK1...revolutionary fighting engine, unrivaled weapons combat, multiple dark fatalities, ripped clothing, arena interaction such as taking weapons off walls, all new stage fatalities...did we get ANY of that? No. We most certainly did not.
I too became disillusioned with Mortal Kombat after MKDA. It's a damn shame too, because I was one of the biggest MK fans ever. I just got tired of the mediocrity and empty promises of the games. I know i'm not the only long-time veteran who became disinterested in MK...look what happened to FatSatan, dominojr, and some of the others...they're all gone, and could care less about MK anymore.
My point is, don't jump on him for voicing his opinion. This message board falls under the conventions of free speech, does it not? Just because he has strong, VALID points about MK that most of you (the rabid fanboys) disagree with, doesn't mean you should get on his case about it.
On the contrary, I don't think its fair to doomsay Deception before its out, either. But he's not really doomsaying it...he's only voicing his concern that if Deception is NOT what it is being hyped up to be, just like DA, then MK will just die for alot of people. I think Deception is going to be the best fighting game around, but that's only what I THINK...I don't know that, and I won't know it until the day the game is released and i'm playing it for myself. I, for one, will not give into the hype, as I did with MKDA. I think he is trying to convey the same thing.
Here's hoping Deception is the best fighter ever...I sure as hell want it to be, because after what i've seen so far, it kicked my dead MK interest back to life, and if it can do that with just those early shots, then who knows how great the game will be in the end?

ur right about mkda getteing boring after a few wekks,because..1 u (meaning every 1) were just playing by ur self againist the computer..or 2 fighting vs the same people every day.... i think that mkd will have a HIGH replay value because of the online play.every 1 would be wanting to play every day none stop..it wont get boring cuse it'll be like the good ole arcade days..plus u dont have to ante up $.50 per game..mkda would have been 100% better if it had online play!!! now about mk 2 i still play it every day online vs people w/ mame 32k good times the game will never go away.. it still GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
