Possible Proof that Teleports have returned in Deception:

posted05/12/2004 02:48 AM (UTC)byI know that people have been wondering will they be back or won't they, there have been concerns about how teleports would work in a completely 3D game...Well in the new Team Xbox interview this is quoted by John Podlasek
John Podlasek: "It's about making it fun. Some fighting games may be more realistic, but is that fun for the gamer? There are parts of the Mortal Kombat games that make you laugh, and that's ok because it works. The MK series has been successful because it's included extraordinary things like supernatural fireballs, projectiles, teleports, etc. This is something that we've continued to develop in Deception."
"...The MK series has been successful because it's included extraordinary things like supernatural fireballs, projectiles, teleports, etc. This is something that we've continued to develop in Deception."
Could this maybe be a confirmation on teleports returned to MK? PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT saying that his is actual confirmation....just telling you how I interpreted the words. What do you guys think?

That is very likely a hint that teleports will be returning. I'd prefer them not to come back, but that does sound like they are going to be in there. But maybe he is referring to the "extraordinary things" in general when he is talking about developing them further. He might have just used teleports as an example.
I reckon you could make a 3D teleport system work by guaging it from the center of the ring. One move to teleport you toward the center, one move to teleport you toward the edge.
It would require an on-the-ball camera, and a lot of TLC, but it would rule.

Yeah That's what I wasn't sure of myself. That's why I put only Possible proof. I hope that they do return myself I think they could be very useful.. But at the same to very cheap. Imagine you knock Mileena through a wall and then on her way down to the bottom of the arena she teleports mid air and winds up behind or in front of you with a powerful kick...That would be cool to see, but at the same time I guess it would be a little infuriating as well.

I sure hope so, cause I want them back, I really want to see Scorp and Mileena's teleport Punch/Kick back.

I dont think they would bring back the teleport,or even the shang tsung morph feature.Loading times would suck for each change from tsung, and as for the teleport. That would be just as usefull as saying ok lets bring back reptiles invisibility. It would be riddled i figure with loading times for a teleport and the invibility factor would be dumb just for the fact that it being a 3d game,a person could go invisibile and basicly give cheap shots

teleports arnet cheap...
u gotta be quick
and i relly dont think it would be that hard to map teleports
just take the basic foundation of the stage and pick distance points really quite simple..

From the interview of Ed Boon in the April issue of PSM:
"We also plan on giving the returning characters all of their classic MK moves, as well as new moves that have never been seen in any other previous MK game."
I'm assuming that teleports are classic moves, which means that they probably will be back.

Yeah but I wasn't really sure if the was including teleports because of the 3D thing...Well if they're back...besides Scorp, Mileena, and Ermac (If you recall he also had a teleport punch) Who else do you think will recieve a teleport move, or just a straight teleport? Noob seems like the type for a teleport move, and smoke too. Also if Quan is the last remaining MKDA character to return then it will be awesome to see his Telestomp.

Agreed...They should have been a part of DA too, though even teleports aside....DA was lacking in special moves period.

Well, the teleports were in MK4, I don't know why they wouldn't be able to make them for this game.
It's no big deal really.
All they need to do is make it track the position of the opponent, so you teleport to the right place every time.
Then they could have a spark or a flash to make it look like the character is teleporting, sort of like Dalsim in the street fighter Alpha games.
They would need to set the transparency of the character to 0% to make them invisible, then change their location and set the opasity back to 100%.
I don't think it's very hard to pull it off.

Yeah I was unsure before but the more I think about it the easier it seems to pull off. also in MK4 the character models were 3D, but The game wasn't 100% 3D What I mean is it wasn't free roaming like the current MK, when you were fighting, unless you did the stupid movement to do one quick step into the background or forward in the foreground, it played pretty much like a 2D game IMO hence the teleports no big deal... But I do agree with you that they probably wouldn't be that difficult for the current game.

It's a possibility and would be nice to see them back. Teleporting forwards, backwards, behind, in fornt and even into the background would be great. Hopefully, they'll make it work.

Yes I feel very confident that we'll be seeing the teleports back...btw love the new sig. man.

I hope teleports are back, it's one of the things I missed most from MK:DA.

Yeah I remember Boon saying that they were going to bring back more classic moves from previous MKs for the returning characters. Besides, with each character now having at least six moves, you'd have to think that teleports would come in somewhere in there. Just my opinion though. It seems logical.
I personally miss teleporting. I thought it was a fun way to keep your opponent off guard and it worked well with starting combos, however if it was blocked, you were wide open to get your ass kicked. Now that's strategy my friend!

If teleports were back that would be great! Scorpion's teleport punch & Mileena's teleport kick would be unreal!
And the opponent would be able to do more than just block it, as they could dodge it if quick enough as well!
Invisibility wouldn't cause cheap shots either! Because the arena scrolls around the players, so you would still have an idea of where the characters were in line with, just not the exact position. I'm all for invisibility to make a return if it fits in with the character.
