I've heard that Deception on PS2 will have tournament setups and various other features. Plus I hear there will not be a fee to play online. With Xbox Live I hear that there's only going to be one on one matches. That's it. Does anybody know all the details surrounding the differences because it's going to effect whether I get the PS2 version or if I stick with the Xbox one as I originally intended. It would also help if someone could describe what it's like playing a game online for both systems, interfaces, features, pricing, etc. since I've never used either online before. Thanks.

They are going to end up being practically the same.

er.. it also says at that site that MK is going to have scoreboards when Ed said they weren't. All this speculation is confusing =P We probably won't know until it releases and like Drew said, it'll probably be the same.
If anything, you'd assume Xbox would handle spectators/rotation/etc. better since MK isn't really different per platform, so they could use all the remaining Xbox specs to do that.
I don't really know though, but if all the good players are going on PS2, then I'll just get an adapter for my PS2, not sure.

I'm hoping you can at least keep track of your own win-loss record even if there's no network wide leaderboard. I think it's pretty lame if there turns out to be no leaderboards or even no stat tracking at all. With all the time Boon and co. have apparently spent adding "Kontent", it should have been a priority to make online play as full featured as possible.

2 people playing and anymore than 2, they are spectators that either get their turn in or rotated in based on current mode selected.
So say there is an arcade mode where winner stays and loser leaves. 2 people fight and other 2 watch, when 1 loses, the next in line gets rotated in. Another mode would be like tournament mode, where everyone is in a tournament bracket and everyone watches eachother and goes down the bracket. Each match is based on who won before and which match the bracket is currently trying to decide on, etc.
Of course with 4 players that's not really a bracket. Most likely if they do 4 players, tournament mode should be something like round-robin where everyone gets to face another opponent once. If there are any ties, then a tie-breaker match should be done.

Guys, I was just interpreting the link given earlier in this post, I do not in any way have an idea of how they're going to do it.
But based on that information, it would be 4 player max in a tourney if they choose to add tournament mode.

How do other Midway PS2 online games work? Like NHL Hitz Pro or something. How much does it cost and how is the interface? I figure it'll be similar for MK.

The main difference between Xbox Live and PS2 Online is that Sony basically gives companies an adapter and then say "go for it". The upside of that is that PS2 Online for anygame, besides the $60 adapter is free.
XBL gives companies a kit and how to set their games up online, as well as requiring certain standards in content downloads and game balance/bugs/etc. Microsoft is a bitch about that, that's why patches, downloads and etc. take awhile to go through. Microsoft is basically trying to make the online play experience as best as they could so they can get a good reputation.
A lot of PS2 games are glitched and a cheatfest, but people don't do anything about it because Sony isn't gonna regulate and the company rather spends time to push out another sequel then to fix a current game. The most popular PS2 game, SOCOM 2, is FILLED with glitch users and cheaters and the sad part is everyone knows it. Also, certain PS2 games let dial-up play, but I've heard that MKD will be broadband only. Sony already holds hella users so they don't really care what developers do with what they provide.
With MKD, I really don't know how they will handle it. Overall, I think it's going to be the same. With the exception of Xbox loading faster and looking slightly better, people being on different systems, etc. I have both systems so I'm wondering which I should get it for too.

That's another thing. I knew that Socom II had problems and I'm afraid that'll carry over to MK. Who cares how many tourneys you hold if there's always someone there that won't be losing any life? Maybe there are ways to deal with it but that would require the person hosting the tourney to have the power to kick someone. Even then, it can still mess things up. I'll get either one since the extra graphical glitz on the Xbox will probably be negligable. I see that the Xbox version can do 480p but I think the PS2 is capable of at least 480p too. I think Jak II had it. Both controllers are fine for me, etc. I also don't mind the fee for Xbox Live since I have other games like Ninja Gaiden and eventually Guilty Gear to use it for.
The only thing right now that's making it hard to choose is that it sounds like the PS2 version will have a far better online interface with organized tournament brackets and such but that's just speculation as of now. So far XBox Live looks to only have 4 player rotation. But I don't want to preorder the PS2 version and buy the adapter for just one game if it's going to be exactly the same as the Xbox Live experience. If that's the case I'd rather preorder the Xbox version and get Xbox Live for a handful of games. I guess I could wait a couple of days after release before I buy it so I can know exactly what to expect but then I miss out on the Special Edition bonus disc.

Yeah Im in the same boat as you, except I have no PS2 adapter or anything, but Im already paying for Live for other games that my brothers play on the account. Basically every fighting game is coming out for Live so thats why I have it, but I really am wondering how MKD will be handled online.
