Just as a reminder - DO NOT post links to ANY copyrighted materials. This INCLUDES Gamespot Complete and IGN Insider movies, as well as scans to magazines. Failure to comply will result in 5 Skull Points PER INCIDENT, and BANNING where necessary.

It seems we've been closing a lot of threads and issuing quite a few skull point lately because of this issue. Believe it or not, we Portal Guards DO NOT like issuing Skull Points. We would like to see you all go up in rank, and we certainly wouldn't want to lose anyone because of a ban. So for everyone's sake, please READ THE COMMUNITY FAQ.

My fault, I appologize. I read it wrong...I thought it was ok to post a link to public website material. Sorry.

i hate to get back into this, but how DOES it violate copywrite? violating copywrite is where you steal an idea or product and claim that you came up with it. posting directions to websites does not violate copywrite....

then dont look at the main news page.
dont tell anyone, but theres all kinds of gamespot and ign links there..shhhhhh

ok..now that ive said my smart ass remark..what i think hes trying to say is linking to the actual videos that people without the sites accounts can get for free...like lets say i download the trailer..a person without an account cant get them..so i post a link to the video..to something thats copywritten.
even if that is what m4c ment..its kinda stupid. how can ign/gamespot copywrite something that is already copywritten by midway? they dont own mortal kombat. they shouldnt be allowed to put their watermark on the videos or screens...as a matter of fact, your not supposed to watermark the images..it says so at midway.com

*gasp* they broke one of their own rules, bring in judge dred (heh) but when it is linked directly to gamespot or ign, its obviously not a copywrite issue, no one stole it, they just linked to it so people can get to it more easily.

According to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, distributing or obtaining a copyrighted work (such as a movie file or image) without the permission of the copyright holder is against the law. Because GameSpot, IGN, PSM, etc. hold copyrights to all of their published materials, hosting, providing links for, and distributing their materials is a violation of the DMCA. In many cases, however, these companies allow certain materials to be distributed freely. This is the case with most of their images and movies (so long as watermarks remain, and the respective company is clearly credited as being the source of the information.) Permission is NOT given for files/images that are part of subscription based services (IGN Insider/GameSpot Complete, etc.).

yes sort of, but no one is "obtaining" the files, this is more of an advertisement issue than a copywrite issue, the images and links are not truely stolen from the the rightful owner. well, either way, take notice of your main page, if we're gulity for this then you guys are too.

No. If MK ONline gets permission to link to the movies, then on the boards, that would be the same. The site is MK Online, as is the board.

That would be awsome if everything applied to eachother like that
Mortal Kombat Online does not host/publish any materials that we do not have permission to use. Any screenshots, videos, etc. we use are taken from free distribution materials, or materials that we hold the copyright to.

people on the boards using the same free material as you guys use on the front page, so rules really aren't being broken
No, people are using materials that are not used by MKO. IGN Insider Videos and Gamespot Complete videos are not used by MKO, nor are scans from magazines.

Basically, we aren't going to play the semantics game. The rules are no copyrighted materials ... take it or leave it.
