Think about the upcoming story mode (which is the mode I'm really excited about for this game). Even though Batman and Scorpion may be on opposite sides initially, I'm betting Bats will use his detective skills to find out about Scorpion's origin and reach out to him, converting him to the good guys side. Maybe we'll see a mode that really shows Scorpion's "wildcard-ness", this hasn't really been seen since MKD's Konquest mode.

Nintendo is comprised of three Japanese words. Nin, Ten, Dou, and when combined it means we kicked the holy shit outta Atari.
I was about to say "That's crazy...crazy AWESOME!"

its a interesting idea for story mode, would be good if that happened :)

Scorpion: YOUR FAMILY WASN'T MURDERED BY A PSYCHOPATH!
Batman: Yes they were! We're the same, Scorpion.
Scorpion: GET OUT OF HERE!

Seriously, there is an honorable warrior within Scorpion. If anyone can find it, it's the Dark Knight.

Think about this...Batman became who he is after dealing with the loss of his parents. Scorpion became who he is after dealing with the loss of his wife + child. Their loss of their family made them who they are, the only thing setting them apart is how they dealt with it.

I agree with you that the Story mode is what really has me pumped for this game.
I like your ideas, and yes Scorp and Batsy have some similarities. So do Scorp and Supes though. Both of their pasts have been completely obliterated (Krypton was destroyed with his family, and Scorpion's clan and family were completely destroyed). Both also find themselves in an uncomfortable role as "savior" (Supes is the protector of Earth and Scorpion is the Champion of the Elder Gods). So there are similarities if you look for them.

I definitely prefer to think of Scorpion as a motivated character, but it's not like Batman instantly connects with every yahoo affected by familial tragedy - even the ones who aren't remorseless killers from Hell.
I prefer my Batman pretty unforgiving in that respect. They might arrive at a common goal, but I really don't want to see Scorpion going for rides in the Batmobile...
I'd like to expect something more than petty squabbles, cardboard team-ups, and Scorpion as a pawn. That might be a little unrealistic - particularly if there are individual battles to be fought - but I'd hope Palmiotti and Gray can influence a more sequential plot. Something that's less about throwing a character from each franchise against each other; and more about everyone's individual motivations which, presumably, would grow out of preventing or provoking a merger of the two universes.
A plot; instead of group therapy for Scorpion and Batman.
I think it'll be important for the MK characters to step up in that regard. Focused motivation would be nice instead of random onsets of evil (and giant floating skulls)...

Use his detective skills? What, sneak into the Netherealm after hours to break into Shinnok's files?
Batman could probably actually do that. Shinnok doesn't even have files and he'll still find a way to read them. He's Batman.
Scorpion died BEFORE his family was eradicated. Quan Chi's scheme took place during MK1-MK3, MK4 (as his ending mention never being able to see his family again. In the semantic this was referring to disability from his curse, thus excluding the meaningful possibility of them being dead yet).
Also he had no knowledge of his family being terminated in MK2. Thus AT LEAST (see: fucked up retcon) sparing younger Subs life. His primary angle is to avenge himself. Family is introduced in MK4.
Note that Quan Chi only introduced the bones of Takeda in Mythologies. And it is doubtful that an entire clan was wiped away in one day, move or standard MK spell.

I think it was Mythologies that started the notion that Scorpion was part of a clan of true, Japanese Ninja. It was in this game that Scorp and Sub met, both fighting to get the map leading to Shinnok's amulette, but Sub-Zero got the upper hand...He had a choice to finish him or not...You know how the rest plays out.

Actually, it happened during MKM -- prior to the first MK game.
The exact timeline of when his family died seems to be irrelevant -- Scorpion kills Sub-Zero during the first MK, his "curse" isn't ended and he mistakes the brother for the original.
He's still hanging around because Quan Chi was a loose end, and that's why he's still pursuing him post-MK4.

Scorpion: Yessss... I am Scorpion. You killed
me in cold blood.
Sub-Zero: I had no choice. If I had not stolen
that map I would be the dead one.
Scorpion: But my clan and family would still be
alive!
Sub-Zero: What??
Scorpion: It wasn't enough to kill me... you
had to destroy every last remnant
of my being... you are responsible
for the massacre of my entire clan!
The above is the actual dialogue from the cutscene in MK Mythologies where Sub-Zero meets Scorpion in the Netherealm prison, near the end of the game. (The first level of the game is where Sub-Zero kills him.)
MK Mythologies takes place 2 years before MK1 and 10 years before MK4, according to Scorpion's MK1 bio and the very long, very detailed backstory information Tobias wrote that was in the instruction manual and on the game's official website. In fact, Chrome...I don't know how you could come to believe MKM takes place any time after MK1, because MKM's Sub-Zero would be dead!
Anyway, the point is, in current continuity, Scorpion did in fact know all along that his clan was dead and that it would be part of his vengeance quest.

I applaud the inconsistency in MK.
In reference to Scorpion's past? I don't know if I'd call that inconsistent...
The new information might not have been revealed until MKM/MK4, but the necessity of it is set up a year after the original game in MKII.
- Cursed Scorpion enters the first MK having been killed by Sub-Zero.
- Kills Sub-Zero but finds he isn't released from curse.
- Comes back in MKII to kill Sub-Zero again, but realises it's brother and he did actually kill the right one.
- Fucks around in and out of Hell for a while during bullshit mergers.
- Thinks he DOES have to kill Sub-Zero. Discovers Quan Chi was responsible.
- Splits his time between hunting Quan Chi and helping the Elder Gods.
- Zombie Clan Giant Floating Skulls Armageddon Evil Lolz Wtf????
As much as it was a sequence of retcons of basic information, it's pretty cleanly incrementalized. Each step revealed a new piece of the story... Except Trilogy and Armageddon, which were retarded...

They HAD to add more to it or else he wouldn't have a reason to return ever again.

It should also be noted that, if Scorpion's family were still alive, he'd have no reason to exist anymore after MK1. He got his revenge for his OWN life, so why isn't he at rest?
I said that more than once...
No.

We don't know...concerning your last point, Quan-Chi is more powerful then Shang so I'd say it's very possible that he could have wiped the whole clan easily if you think about it. And when did they ever confirm the bones were "Takedas" I don't remember that...
