See my point? (MKD for GameCube)
See my point? (MKD for GameCube)

posted11/13/2004 03:32 AM (UTC)byThis post concerns the proposed notion that Gamecube will have 12 more characters to play as in Mortal Kombat: Deception.
I will start off by saying that I have not played Mortal Kombat: Deception since the second week of it's debut due to the fact that I unlocked everything in the game and pretty much had nothing else to do. Edit that actually, I played an hour one night when I had a friend over at my house. Here's the thing, I'm 21, I have a social life, so it's not like coming back to my house to play MK is ideal, maybe if I were a little younger it'd be different, but anyway, moving on. I will also say that I don't have any PS2 online capabilities since I have not bought any of the necessary equipment.
I love MK, it's a great game, but fighters don't keep me interested for a long time because unless I have someone else to play with then what becomes the point? However, I do feel cheated, and let me outline why:
If what has been said about the Gamecube version containing 12 extra characters then I feel I'm being left out in the cold. I don't feel I'm getting out of this game what I've paid for. Here's a list of reasons put simply
1. A PS2 nowadays cost about $150. I bought mine a long time ago when it was more, but I'm just using this number for example. Then you buy the MKD game for $50. If you want to play online I think you can buy the adapter and equipment for about $20, give or take. So to get the full use of MKD for PS2 I'd spend over $200??? I don't even know for sure if you'd have to pay for a certain type of internet connection to your house other than using the phone lines either, probably just for better connection purposes, but let's assume that would cost extra as well.
2. A Gamecube can be bought at just about any store these days for around $60 or less. The MKD game for $50 when it comes out. You don't have online so nothing there. Also, check it out, you get 12 more characters than I do...great! For just over $100 you get more than I'll ever get out of this game.
Maybe someday I'll give in and buy the PS2 online equipment, but I doubt it since PS3 is right around the corner. Personally, I just don't see how it's fair in the longrun to include something on the Gamecube and not on the PS2 or Xbox. All of us aren't into online gaming, and I'm pretty sure I've never bought MK games in the past for use online, and I'm pretty sure I got everything that the other systems had too. I know some of you have said it before, but why should someone who spends less for an even more retarded system get rewarded when they play MKD?

I agree, it isn't fair at all. Nintendo made it very clear from the start that it wasn't going to support online gaming. So the people who then bought a GC knew what they were getting. They were supporting a system that didn't include online gaming. PS2 and XBOX bought a system that was very clear on the fact that they were supporting online gaming, whioch is something the MK team wants to really push. So then why do they add extra bonuses to the system that is first of all in thrid place, and second, does not support the online capabilites that the MK team want to really go far with? GC fans, IMHO, do not deserve special treatment. They chose a system that is subpar, they need to just deal with it. They knew going in that they'd be left out in the cold with the whole online thing, and they still bought a GC. Why should we be punished for buying a better system. To me this discourages people to play online games. If I knew that the online version I bought was going to be inadequate and lacking compared to the "offline" version, I would have never bought it. Why does the MK Team want people to feel that way? Don't they want to push the online play? Don't they want people to get the best experience possible online? It's just a mixed message to me. "Buy the online version! Play with people around the country! Have the time of your life, provided you can live with a game that not as good as the other one!" I mean, what about people who don't play online, or don't have an adapter? So they're just left in the cold? They don't get online, and they have less characters. Great job Midway.

Besides, online isn't that great. The lag is horrible, and you get disconnected way to easily. I have four star ping all the time, but get disconnected waaaay too much. Also, when you're playing with your friends, there's a sorta "honor" amongst you, in that you don't play cheap, I don't play cheap. We're friends, let's find out who's better and have fun. When playing with strangers, that goes out the window. I love this game, and I love the fighting engine. I think it's fun and original, but it is broken. You can't deny that. So when playing strangers online, some will play fair and fun, others pick Dairou. It cheapens the fun of online play. I personally feel gyped because I bought all the hook ups to play online JUST FOR THIS GAME. But now I'm trained to just disconnect anytime someone plays as Dairou. Great trade off for extra characters. Just more money down the drain.

Poor Midway.
They don't plan to release MKD for the GameCube, everyone whines. So they change their plans and do it anyway, and will probably lose money on it, people still whine.
It can't go online (not Midway's fault) so they'll either get whined at some more for either:
A) not having enough special features to make up for it, or
B) having too much special features which makes it unfair to the other guys
Do you guys want Midway to think that the online MK community is a bunch of whiners? If so, keep it up, guys.

So cry about it! Just because Dairou is awesome doesn't mean he is cheap. Just do jump attacks and you will be fine. If you don't like the online, go play Halo 2. Its not like you got online just for MKD and now you can only play MKD online. And about how you get disconnected way to easily, maybe your just fighting Dairou.

First off just let me say.. There is NOT going to be 12 additional characters in the GCN version of Mortal Kombat: Deception. For christ sake's this information came from the same website who still is trying to let people believe their are super unlockables. Mortal Kombat Australia to put it blunt, is nothing but complete and utter bullshit. Their information is false, (Trust me, I know!), yet they continue to decieve their users.
Yes GCN MKD will probably have a few new fighters, but 12? Come on, be serious people. I usually don't go off on other sites, but when a site like MK Australia continues to report nothing but lies, it's a shame. Why? Because certain people out there will believe anything they read.
Trust me, MK Australia is the worst possible place to get your information on Mortal Kombat. Until they admit they are in the wrong with their false news postings my position on this stands.

Thanks for the replies, some offer very good points. I will reiterate though that I am one of the people who doesn't have the adapter for the PS2, and I do not like the fact that Gamecube gets anything else period. I bought this game, I played this game, I don't have online so I have to settle for that, but in no way should there be something else on the Gamecube. If you love Gamecube you're gonna obviously disagree, but with the amount of money I've already payed for the PS2, accessories and now this game, I think I deserve what anybody else has. It's like many others have said before, people who buy Gamecube know they are not gonna get the chance at using the internet, that's their own fault, and there plainly should not be a reward for that kind of aforethought. That's why the things are so cheap anyway. I'm done but before I go, do not, please do not, tell me that I should just go out and buy a cheap GC and the game in order to get the extras and be satisfied, I think I'd have to hunt you down for that sarcastic kind of remark.

I agree with you Archangel630.
I don't think everyone out there with a Gamecube feels like they're being cheated though.
I'm one of the guys with that system. I'm just hoping it has everything the other systems have - minus the online play.
It would be shitty for Midway to add items to compensate for the lack of Internet play, but would also me unfair to PS2 & XBOX owners to add things ONLY FOR NINTENDO.

Archangel630: The info about the cube getting 12 characters is BS. My proof? Myself.... you really think they'd do that? Hell no. And what's this "retarded" system you speak of? What are you... in grammar school still? It's a freakin' game system.
Gilac: Currency is different in every country. Those prices are probably equivalent to ours. Or at least should be.
Videodroid: It's easy to see why the cube gets extras. It's being released much later. Did Viewtiful Joe not add Dante for the PS2 version? Were there not any extras in the later xbox release of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters? Was there not multiplayer capability in Medal of Honor Frontline for the later released Game cube and XBox versions? The cube version is making up for the loss of online capability.
This is coming from someone who owns a cube (can you tell?) But I also dished out $110 for a new ps2, also dished out $40 for online adapter, and dished out another $60 for the actual game. When a game is later released for another system, there is always bound to be an extra feature or something.... GAME COMPANIES DO THAT!
Still complaining? Everyone keeps saying, "Oh, people knew what they were going into when they bought a cube.â? Yah, we did. So how do you think cube fans feel that there isn't online compatibility? Least the PS2 and Xbox users can go online and fight others! Cubers can't, so take advantage of it. Cubers also have to wait an extra 3 months, because Midway later realized how well MKDA did for the cube. So youâre saying, "They shouldn't get anything extra... even though they wonât have online play and itâs being released much later." Please, give me a break and quit being jealous.

Ok... so what exactly are you getting at dude? why are you venting at Midway? You are obviously angry at PS2 for charging you 150 buck(or twice that) , but in the same breath its just using number as an example.
Secondly you say you dont mind not playing online, but you will sit there and tally up some totals to go along with your anger.
Bottom line if midway wanted to add 24 characters to GC so what? it is not Ps2 or Xbox or anyone elses problem. Midway is a company in making money, they are marketing their product to perform VERY well. So it cost 200 bucks as opposed to 110 bucks. Pretty cheap entertainment if you ask me. Me personally, I grew up with MK, so i will most likely buy a GC (again)
it just how i see it
i think... that the point of this thread was eliminated when a couple of sane people pointed out some very key things.
Here's one (sane person in this case would be Scott, gracias by the way):
MKD for the Gamecube will not> have 12 extra characters
Here's another:
Stop whining
and yet another (Scotty Hiz-owell again):
the Australian MK site is full of it

Alright...These threads keep popping up, and while it's encouraging that you present your thoughts in a well laid out, and respectful manner....
Think about the people, who bought a Gamecube for $200 or $150 when it came out....get a crummy lineup of games...atleast that's what I think, I'm a gamecube owner, and I've only bought a very select few games for the system.
Now...what about the people who own ONLY a gamecube, who LOVE mortal kombat? We discovered EVERYTHING in the first 3 days the game was on shelves....3 days, tops. Liu Kang, Shujinkos alternates, Raiden...those were probably the last BIG secrets to be unlocked...I'm sure there are others that haven't been unlocked, or talked about on a broad basis...but in terms of characters, backgrounds,etc...it's ALL been done...now I'm a gamecube owner on November 11, 2004. EVERY ending, EVERY bio, EVERY character has been explored already...How can ANY real MK fan...who owns a gamecube, AVOID this forum totally and completely for the next 3-4 months (while the game has already been out 2 months to this point)...how do they do that? It's impossible if you're a real MK fan...this is THE place to talk about MK...
Here's my proposition, and I've been using this for months now...and No one has been willing to make this trade....
You're a PS2 owner, who's DESPERATELY waiting for October 4th....
Now, let's say Ed Boon descends from the heavens on October 3rd, and proposes "Hey...I know you're waiting for MK...BUT...you feel like waiting an extra 6 months for the POSSIBILITY that we'll add 2-4 more characters to this game....OR...will you take the game now, with the 24 selectable characters, numerous stage fatals, numerous fatalities, numerous endings, secondary endings, a complete konquest game, chess, online combat, etc, etc, etc tomorrow, as scheduled?"
That doesn't even do the GC owner justice, because the GC owner has to sit around and wait, while we furiously pound away on those PS2 and X-box controllers...Do you know how long 6 months is, in the gaming world? It's dog years, cubed....things get hot and cold in the span of 3 weeks...sometimes much quicker than that....6 months? Come on, ALL of the MK community, outside of the minority that ONLY owns a GC...will be talking about the implications of endings from MK: D and how it will play out in the future MK 7 we're waiting for, while GC owners will just be HAPPY to have MK: D...
I wouldn't make that trade at all...I would have taken that game on October 4th, instead of "Sometime in the first quarter of 05"...with a possibility of a few extra characters....and I don't think ANY other PS2 or X-box owner would have made that trade either, the anticipation was simply TOO high.

I think that says most everything. This isn't some new crazy punnishment dreamed up for MK fans. Games that get released later get more stuff. Otherwise nobody will buy it. Its may seam unfair that one system would get something extra out of the deal but its even less fair to make people wait and give them nothing. MKD has more than enough stuff on it. People shouldn't feel the need to complain they are geting short changed. Especaly when they have no idea what they will actualy be putting in the GC version.
How much is it worth to be playing the game months before a GC only owner? I bough a GC, import disk, and Soul Calibur 2. That about cost a total of just under 300$ just so I could play the game a few months before the US crowd. I could have waited for and got it for PS2 later but It was worth it not to wait.
If it bothers sombody soooo much they cant stand it then they can buy a GC. they are cheap and dispite is backing is a fine system. Then they can trade in their MKD disk they've been playing and get the GC version.
Finally here is an iteresting fact. MKD for PS2 rings in at well over 2Gigs of disk space. The GC disks only hold 1.5 Gis of space. How do you think they are going cram all of that plus extras onto a smaller disk? The movies will probably be downsampled for one. They also may have to cut a few other corners. Wait till you see the GC version before you freak out because it sounds so much better. The real thing may not be so great. But if it is I buying it too. I have zero problem buying the thing twice given a good enough reason.

Here's one more point I think everyone subconciously knows, but no one's talked about, so I'll bring it up:
PS2/X-Box owners: You wouldn't have these "extras" anyway! Face it, by adding something in for the GC owners, it's not hurting you at all. It's not like they've got all these extra hidden secrets that they just deliberately left out of the X-Box/PS2 version. If you're not a GameCube owner, you're not really affected by this at all, so why should it even bother you? What if the GameCube version gets cancelled, and now NO ONE has these extras - would you be satisfied then? Is that what you want?

FireMonksPain and ]{0MBAT bring up some good points.
And to go off of what I was saying earlier. Game companies do add stuff to games later released for another system. In this case tho... Midway is REMOVING something from the gamecube version. It's not like the cube version will be better because it has everything the other 2 versions have. Because it won't. It won't have online play (even though there is a broadband adapter for the cube... online play on it isn't nearly as popular). If people don't have online capability and own MKD for the ps2 or xbox, however... then you'll be getting the worst out of it.

Sea_Serpent brings up my main point, and for anybody who doesn't understand, I don't know any other way to explain it to you. I game on a budget. Given, I didn't buy the PS2 knowing someday that I would get to play MKD without the internet. I bought a PS2, I did not buy the network adapter, I bought MKD and since I can't play online I feel a bit cheated that another system which doesn't even cost as much as I've spent so far is getting extras that I'm not. To Scott, it truly doesn't matter what the extras are, it's the fact that another system is getting them making it unequal to me in the end because I don't have the online factor. It's like going to the grocery store, you see some fruit, it's a better quality grocery store so you buy the fruit, but you didn't buy that juicer. Now the other store has less quality, but their makin up for it buy giving you a steak along with your purchase of fruit because they don't sell juicers. Basically, lol, I got cheated. Also to Scott, yea, when things like this concern my money I am going to complain and whine; unless you enjoy throwin money around then you should feel the same. I don't care what Midway thinks of the whiners, they've made more than enough mistakes on this game, which you can see by checking the list of complaints that pop up on this website as well as others everyday. I'm not tryin to fight you on this dude, but there's plenty of people out there who think that there's a problem with all this stuff. ( So you know though, I don't spend my time caring about this too much other than the hour I spend online at night checking out people's comments, so don't be offended by anything I say, let's go have a beer sometime. )
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off just let me say..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I take offence to your comments. Im very sad that my first post in these forums is having to reply to a very bad post of someone. Everything you have said in your comments are untrue. Where is your proof ? I would like to see your 100% that you are right? unless I see that I ask that no one takes his words seriousely.
I have been to the MKA web site and think its great ( not just cos im a aussie) I found my way to this web site though MKA as I wanted to see what other guys thought of this game in other countrys. And what have I found?
Ive found a forum and web site that thinks they are 100% correct and no other site out there are. It seams you guys are bagging MKA as they have some information that you dont have. To me you come over that you are jelouse of them. I am very sad to see the way you have treated a fellow MK site. The dissrespect I have seen in here has made me decide that this will be my first and very last post in these forums. Ill go visit the UK and Australian Forums as they have much more usefull posts without going to the very sad lenths i have witnessed in these forums.
I also hope that when it is PROVED that these Super unlockables are in fact REAL and the other information supplied by MKA that MKO get the gutz to appologise publicly and admit they are wrong. If you dont then you are not worth visiting and I can not see why Midway or the developers of MK would be happy linking themselfs to a shamfull web site as this one.
Thats all im going to say on this subject and in that matter in these forums.

OMG, you people, I swear, there is no pleasing MK fans. I think having online play is much better than an extra 2 characters, people are just pissed off becuase they want something they cant have. PS2 and Xbox owners get MKD months earlier, and online play which greatly increases the replay value, and GC owners have to wait a few months for extra characters, its the least the MK team could do for GC owners. Stop bitching and go play online. And to people who are complaining about not having online, BUY THE FUCKIN ADAPTER.

I agree with whoever it was that said there is no pleasing MK fans. No matter what we get we all want more lo.
I dont think the gamecube will get 12 more characters. IF and thats a big IF, they get any I reckon it will be three, and I reckon they will Quan Chi, Kitana and probably Sektor. I think they might get all the characters in puzzler mode, and instead of online gamin, they will perhaps get a new game mode, maybe like mini-arcade kobat, where u fight as the mini version of ur character.

I fully understand and AGREE with the large dissatisfaction being expressed in the forum. It's NOT about whining (frankly, I'm disappointed in your tone, ]{OMBAT), it's about feeling cheated. Why? We all know why. Because we're paying a lot of money for this game; people with different video game systems are getting less for their money compared to the GC version. As well as the whole "GC being viewed as a minority or dying system", which as a GC owner, I feel is entirely accurate.
Some people here (rightly) are saying that video clips, etc, will be removed or downsized as in MKDA. however, it's also right to say many, many MK fans regard the endless photos and videos as "Nice, maybe, but we'd FAR rather have the extra fighters."
Another sore point is the whole damn "super unlockable" fuss. We ALL looked forward to (hotly rumoured and fuelled by Ed Boon) finding secret fighters in the same vein as Blaze and Mokap. But now that's turned out not to be the case, which is a real shame. Compounding this is a feeling that there are things in the code- Ghost, Monster, Sonya, Kung Lao, etc- that aren't playable but seem like they SHOULD be- and a strong belief that these things were locked up at the last moment to give the GC version extras. If this is not true someone from on high should say so. It'd be nice to know why a lot more puzle fighters are buried in the game but completely inaccessable.
This game- or rather, the behind-the-scenes fuss with the game- has upset and angered a LOT of people. *sigh* Shame, 'cos it really looks rather good, and I've got my Xbox ready to buy next week.
These are my thoughts, possibly rambling and unfocussed though they may be. But I am extremely unimpressed with the mod's responses to this anger.

Okay, you guys need to calm down. First off, I doubt there will be extra characters on the GC version. Why? Well, when was the last time you remember Midway going the extra mile to please fans? Come on, do you really think Boon and co. will put in the additional effort to add characters? Of course not. The GC extras will probably be more goddamn pictures of the MK team.
And on the off chance 'Cube owners get more fighters, so what? Remember, the rest of us have online, perhaps those characters will be downloadable at some point in the future. Besides, chances are that any new characters will suck anyway. Remember Mokap and Blaze? No? Can't imagine why...........................
Oh, and one off-topic statement in response to Scott Howell's post : As much as I like MKO (and I do), you have no business insulting another MK site when plenty make fun of your own.

Scott-Howell said there will "probably" be more fighters in the GC version; he's in the know it seems, so...

MKD does not support downloadable content I hear, so that's not an option. And what about those who don't HAVE online?
As for "so what," like I say, it's about feeling cheated. And Mokap and Blaze...well, the rumours were that these SUs wouldn't be new fighters, they'd be returning faves.
