So no FMV endings?

perfect world, what happens immiedaitly after in the non canon endings in arcade would be cool, however half of arcade endings aren't even canon. also the paintings can tell a story beyond what the initial victory of the tournament ensues. pluses and bonuses, paintings will do, however cinematics would be epic, and BA opening cinematic will suffice and movie endings in story mode(assuming they are FMVs) will be just fine midway.

Midway is in a bit of a financial cul-de-sac. I highly doubt they can afford cinematic endings for a roster of 20+ in addition to an intro movie and Story Mode endings. In reality, arcade mode takes about 10 minutes to beat usually. I wouldn't consider that worthy of getting an expensive cinematic ending. Soul Calibur 4 has cinematics and they're all awful. At least with "paintings" you get an ending that can span a much larger time frame. I'd rather have a longer and better opening movie and ending story mode cinematics rather than a two minute movie at the end of arcade mode that shows absolutely nothing.
You have to pick your battles.

I totally agree.

Here,lets compare.
In MKMSZ for the N64 we had story boards to read during the game and at the ending. Now the PSX version had FMVS during the game and the endings. And I can bet you everyone and their mom preferred the FMVS in the PSX version.Paintings can't do better then FMVS or CGI videos. That's like saying you rather look at pics of the game rather then playing it.That might be a bad example but FMVS endings are better then just stupid paintings that don't move.Story board endings are 90s stuff or at least last gen. They say they want to use the engine to its fullest and yet they give us that. They never use systems to its max,not since the snes days.
Last gen they had a good start and were moving in the right place but with MKA.for some reason they took 2 steps back.
I dunno,I didn't care and still kinda don't.But its pisses me off to read someone type that storyboards are better then actual video.Would you really want to look at a story board of a actual movie?I mean, that is kind of what you are saying, when you say its better then fmvs.

as long as the gameplay is tight, who really gives a crap about the endings. the pic endings from da, deception weren't bad anyway. is it really that big of a deal? besides, this game isn't canon anyway.

As many people have said already in this thread, it's probably more due to time constraints than laziness. The only game that is really guaranteed profit for Midway is Mortal Kombat. It costs extra money to delay a game, and with the limited time frame that they have (I believe the release date is at the end of this year) they just don't have enough time to put in fmv endings, especially when the game will sell equally as well with or without the endings. They are still tweaking with the game mechanics, in the demo's that have been shown so far, most characters don't even have a fatality yet, so obviously the game isn't completed. They would need a good few extra months to add in FMV's.

So no, it's not "easy". And no, they're probably not called FMV's anymore. When I get the correct terminology, I'll be sure to pass it along.

Far as the paintings or picture endings, I'm cool with them as long as they're really good.
I mean, wouldn't hurt if they were partially animated, or even partially interactive or something. But I'm cool with them as long as there's commentary.
I also love to access them freely after I beat the game with a character too. I still watch some of the MKDA and MKD stuff if ever I play those games.

Would I like endings to be animated really well? Hell yea, that'd be awesome. But it isn't feasible unless we leave them alone for a while, and software//hardware permit it.....in addition to 20characters, alot of arenas, online stuff, unlockable stuff, a good 10-20hr story mode, alt costumes, good gameplay.....ect ect ect...
----
Side note: I think it's be cool to see bios and vs screens get animated some new inventive kinda way. I know I want the victory poses back on the selection screen too.

Exactly Predator1.
FMV, or "Full Motion Video" was a term used in the early 1990's to describe pre-recorded video video footage of actors for use in games. Games such as Night Trap, Sewer Shark and Ground Zero Texas used FMV for the main portion of the game. They all sucked.......badly. What our buddy may have meant to say was "Pre-Rendered Scenes."
Pre rendered scenes require lots of time and lots of money to produce. They are build on expensive CGI stations which far exceed the capabilities of the PS3/Xbox 360. If he is referring to the use of the in-game engine to play out the endings, then the correct terminology would be, "Rendered Scene." These can also be very time consuming but not nearly as cinematic or expensive as Pre-Rendered scenes.
It all boils down to what's most important given the time constraint that Midway as placed upon the MK Team. If they focused on pre-rendered cut scenes like our buddy wants, well, let's just say the core game itself would be less than stellar. In fact, It wouldn't even be worth mentioning in a tabloid magazine.
The time allocated to the core game was a wise decision despite what the "pre-rendered ending guys" think. I hope that the endings are set up more like comic pannels that just straight up paintings like MKD. Either way, my focus will be on the core game, not the lack of rendered endings.
Peace
