As far as I'm concerned, the less I know about the story mode, the fresher it'll seem when I play it. I don't want to know anything.
I think it's more like an arcade mode with cutscenes telling the story. Or did I misunderstand?

Maybe there isn't much to show? From what I understood this isn't going to be like past MK's Konquest Mode, where you have a character that you can run around with.

I don't think it would be like that... I mean, it seems like it, but they said it was gonna be about a 4 hour experience, gameplay + cinematics.
And the 1 on 1 fights don't have the reputation of lasting too long, it takes less than 10 minutes to beat the arcade mode on Armageddon, so there's gotta be more to it.

Look, I of all people am all for Midway being tight lipped about their stuff, but we haven't even seen one basic SCREENSHOT of the mode. Not to mention the fact that we don't even know who we are playing as in the mode. Yes, yes, I know, you play from MKs side and then from DCs side. But who do you get to use? One character? Any of them? It would be nice to know at least that.
We do have screenshots. Cutscenes count.
And I'm pretty sure you play as different characters through it. But like I said, whether we find out now, or when it comes out, isn't going to change the story mode itself. So I can wait to find out what it's like.
Patience.
What solid information do we have on the story mode?
Exactly, i don't want them to spoil it before hand.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yes sir, the check is in the mail."
I tend to agree with those of you who don't want the game spoiled to them before the release. All I needed to know was that Raiden was going to be part of the game (he IS my favorite after all), that MK would be taking on DC characters, and...well, that's pretty much it. The stuff about the "merged boss" and what I've seen in terms of screenshots and confirmed characters have just served as bonus material for me. Although I like having a bit of an idea of what will happen, I don't want to know HOW everything is going to play out. I'd much rather play it and find out for myself.
And THAT'S what Jack Burton has to say at this time.
The gameplay and arenas of arcade mode I don't really need to see more of. In fact, I hope I don't. I would like at LEAST the basics for story mode though.

You are right it is just like Tekken 5 but with changable charcteres and training just like MK :DA .
I really want to read the story because MKs stories are always better than japanese stories >>>coughTekkencough

That SCREAMS mka. I thought they were just being quiet with mka, come to find out they were quiet because there was nothing in the freaking game that we didn't know about beforehand.
I have high hopes for story mode this time around. I hope they keep it hush hush for while. Glad it's longer gameplay this time.

I hope you get to control all the characters in story mode eventually....or atleast a known character. I wasn't big on Taven. The way he changed into the other characters during the practice section was stupid. We should've been able to control the other characters instead. I know that's the story line in MKA, but it was boring playing someone I never saw in MK before. Shujinko's story was a little better. Konquest lacked in both games.

I'm sorry, but... Are you serious? Taven isn't my favorite, but his story could kick Shujinko's story's ass anyday. I think you might be getting them mixed up or something. Taven never changed into any characters, it was Shujinko who did that...

Fight, fight, fight, story. Fight, fight, fight, story.
I'd love to be wrong, but the impression those early discussions gave was that there's nothing special about the mode itself. It just forces you to play as certain characters whilst navigating through plot points. Which, given that those plot points are the only thing in the mode, would be why they aren't spilling a lot of info.

But we'll see.

Yeah, but it just seems odd... I mean, you have 20 characters... If you, as one character, fight everyone, that's 19 battles.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are story-driven circumstances to fight opponents more than once. There's also been some talk about non-playable characters making appearances.
If the achievements are accurate, there's only three chapters in each story. So, really, if the last chapter ends with Shaoseid, it's probably not going to be a stretch to imagine working your way through the entire stack of the rival franchise between cutscenes.

Jack Burton finds himself in agreement with Mick-Lucifer in this thread.
I was also under the impression that story mode was going to be strictly one-on-one fights with cutscenes interspersed throughout. Nothing else I've heard or seen yet has really disputed that. As with Mick-Lucifer, I too would love to be totally wrong about that, but if that's the way it works I think I'll be satisfied still.
For the whole non-playable character issue, I wouldn't doubt the presence of NPCs. I would even go as far as to say you would get to fight them as well. Hell, think back to MKD for a second. Thanks to Konquest mode, you got to fight guys like Johnny Cage, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, the MKDA version of Raiden, etc. and they weren't actually part of the roster. I wouldn't doubt NPCs a bit for this game.
And THAT'S what Jack Burton has to say at this time.

Well, although there might be NPCs, I don't think they'd be taking actual part in fighting, I figured they'd just be used to drive the plot along in cutscenes.
Jack Burton sees your point, but if they could do it with MKD I'm sure the possibility might be there to do the same with MK vs. DC. Granted, ol' Jack is no expert in game design; he simply plays them. But it's an interesting prospect to think about.
Now to go drink from the Six Demon Bag.
