The Rival idea is a good one but i think it will be Motaro.

I like the idea too, MK needs something like that.

I think Onaga Should be the sub boss because he made a good challenge on MKD and mabye in MKA Onaga and Blaze make a allaince or some think for the story line.

I like the idea of a sub-boss being a rival. I think their should be some dialogue, such as with the Street Fighter Alpha series, where in some of the games, the sub and even final boss is different depending on who you use. It makes arcade mode more interesting. Also, there should be no mirror matches in arcade mode.

How about a chain of endurance matches or boss battles leading up to the boss. For instance on the first tower ( they have to include towers) you could fight a mirror match, followed by an endurance match, followed by a random boss battle( could be determined by your character's story line) in which you fight either Shao Khan, Goro, Motaro, etc. On the tallest towers, they could make you fight all the bosses before you fight Blaze. Hell, you never know, Blaze could be the sub-boss.

Actually i like this idea....they could be keeping the actual boss a secret!!!

Who was at the top in the E3 version? I know I have seen a video that showed on of the towers. I remember people commenting in one of the threads here about how short it was.

The sidekick to the main boss should be the sub boss, whoever that might be.

Sub-boss as in for mortal kombat ladder. Is not what I'm talkin about right now. But if u all would think of the sub-boss to blaze in Konquest mode I'd say Deagon no doubt. TomTaz makes a pretty good Idea 2, however i rather see that as an sub-sub boss and still create a subboss of somone standard boss.

I mean, was'nt he made the guardian of the last great dragon egg by the DK' s holy men...why just not throw the egg to the lava when left alone and there...problem solved...no dragon egg, no returning dragon king...kinda dumb preventer of the return or stopper or what ever...

Ok now to be serious. If I were making MKA I would make normal Blaze (the one you can play as) the sub-boss and either a transformed Blaze, or something entirely different as the final boss.

i think its a real good idea to make the sub boss the players rival it shouldnt be too hard because in deception the had "patterns" of who each character would fight all the time

It wouldn't be hard at all. All they would have to do is specify who fights who for each of the 60+ characters. The hard part would be deciding who will be fought by some of the characters. There would be a lot of sub-boss repeats though and it wouldn't be any different from a regular match unless they added in some dialouge. If they did this then it would be possible to do 2 part endings.
Random example: Sub-Zero fights Scorpion on the top of the pyramid. Sub-Zero wins but it goes to a scene instead of "Finish Him!". In the scene blaze pops out of nowhere and starts lashing out, the ninjas decide to team up out of desperation. Then the real fight would begin as Sub-Zero vs. Blaze. After you beat Blaze then Subby's ending would be him and Scorpion shaking hands and burrying the hatchet. They end up opening a restaurant together that specializes in snow cones, chopped meats, and cake.

I like the idea of the Sub-boss being either Motaro, or the arch nemesis.. but I have another idea.. how bout the Sub-boss being Taven, the character in Konquest. He has a lot to do in the story line as it comes to Blaze, like if he finds him before his brother, he inherits his father's kingdom, so he must stop anyone who tries to get near Blaze.

Or maybe...lol
seriously though we should have a condition where if you get to Blaze and beat him a secret boss comes out and has a diologue of somesort, Blaze gets on one knee and bows to this secret boss. The Secret Boss says, "you fool", kills Blaze and then you fight this Secret Boss!!!!

I agree with Insomniaclark. the sub-boss should be someone connected if possible.

I think that the sub-boss couldbe Daegon or else I agree that there should be a different sub-boss e.g.
Scorpion-Quan Chi or Older Subby
Kung Lao-Goro etc.
But I think that Daegon would make a good sub-boss he is a new character and from what i've read quite pwerful...

I don't think that your characters nemesis/rival should be the sub-boss.
I think it should play like this:
7 Kombatanants to fight your way through up the tower. (Number depending on which tower you choose if that returns, like it was present in MK3)
then you have your Nemesis/Rival
Then the Sub-Boss, for example Onaga&Shao Kahn like the 2-on2 format on MK:Trilogy but instead have it 2-on-1 but you only fight the second character after the first one is dead.
Then have Blaze as your final boss.
