What do you like?
I go for Ice Shaker, because you can do it near the opponent. For the clone you have to wait the enemy touch and now that the game is 3D it is almost useless. Clone was good on mk3 when you could use that on air.

Not once, ever, has the AI player fallen for/hit even by accident the ice clone in all the time I've had MKD. Even on novice. Not once.

The ice clone in this game, is 100% useless.

the ice clone was good to me only in mkm:s-z and thats it, in this game it sucks anna nicole smith ass!!!
but... thats because the game is 3-d, it's pretty much impossible for it to hit, i thought the ice shaker was better though, was actually one of my favorite moves, the ice emit (same thing, different name) in mk:da on gba was the best, it was a bit better for some reason...
and yes, i have had the opponent hit the ice clone, but only because they were moving close to me...

The shaker has more advantages in a 3d game. The clone idea was a good move in past D games. Sub-Zeros powers evolve, why bother creating a clone, when he simply stands there, and anyone who comes near gets iced up real good.
-only projectiles may harm him this way. This is the only advantage the ice clone has.

Definately Ice Shaker over Ice Clone. But I liked the idea bringing back the ice clone, but nevertheless... pretty useless now... XD
They should put both of them in the next game. I mean, why not; just to give him more moves... ^^

ice shaker, with the ice shaker in mkda I could do (in dragon) square, square, circle, uppercut, ice shaker, then I do it all over again, in mkd the most useful combo with sub zero imo is square, triangle, circle, L1, square, square, circle, uppercut, and it's very easy to pull too

I make people hit my ice clone all the time, it's just about timing, if anything.. the Ice shaker is useless to me because if you're far people will block it and if you're close they can hit you before you shoot it... I have a harder time freesing people with that over the clone... I think the slide is the best move though.

Interesting topic as well as interesting posts here.
I kind of like the Ice Clone more. Hopefully, in MK7 or something, Sub-Zero should be able to do the Ice Clone when he's in the air just like in the earlier MK games. The Ice Shaker is a pretty good move, especially when you're either close to your opponent or if you're backed up against a wall. However, like someone here already mentioned, it's only downfall is that Sub-Zero is vulnerable to projectile attacks. I would like Sub-Zero to have both moves in future MK games.

The clone was very good in the past but it is too easy to side step. The shaker was quite use ful as it has a bigger range. One thing I hate about Subzero's freeze now is how the opponents body always goes into the same position every time unless they are in the air.

If ya paly sub competitively or online you will realise how he plays in mkd. In mkda sub was very blocky in his movements, esp in shotokan, and kori is useless. In mkd he is faster, and dragon is watered down while shotokan is powered up. Sub should play a lot in kori stance, using cheap save moves to chip away life. His low hits and high hits both have range so create fifty fifty sits.. Throw in an iceclone and u get why sub is useful. clone, and then stand on it, while chippin away with the blade. cold shoulder any turtling players or use it as a surprise card. Sub is also the best turtling player for obvious reasons and has few bad matchups. Once ahead, sub can just turtle away and exploit mistakes. and all cos there is the clone. It sure is not better than the mk4 clone, but it does have its uses. 3d arena? Clone has some nifty tricks in 3d which 2d does not have. firstly, any opponent would attempt to sidestep a clone. Just stay in the same plane as him. And why would a person sidestep a clone? because he is usually just out of range of the clone, meaning kori still can hit the opponent. While sidesteppin an opponent cannot block, so while both of you are playin merry go round, time your move correctly and HALT your sidestep and land a blow just as the opponent steps into your path. Or even better, cold shoulder, cos at close range, even a sidesteppin opponent gets hit pretty easily. Why is clone at times better in 3d than 2d? Cos it acts as a free breaker. Any opponent zealous enough to hit you when u stand on your clone is gonna get frozen. He stays out of range? Fine if you are leading in life. It is his prob if the clock winds down. To play sub you have to play mind games, and nothin does this better than the clone. down + 1 in shoto is safe and should be abused with clone at times and u get a free throw after that. So start learnin the clone dudes.
i liked the ice shaker more, can't really figure out how to use the clone, but them tips sound good
One thing that i always like was the ice sphere thing sub-zero did in the MK movie, i'd like to see something like that in the game, basically the same as the shaker just looks different. And alot quicker than the movie version as well

That's very interesting mindripper. I never thought of it that way. I was thinking that when Sub-Zero does his Ice Clone that would could do some command like D, U, BL and the Ice Clone would make an explosion, freezing the opponent if he/she gets hit by explosion. That may sound kind of cheap though...but hey, it was just a thought. I know where you're coming from when you said that Dragon was watered down in MK: D. I found myself using Shotokan more than Dragon though I did use attacks from Dragon when doing some of my combos.

Ice Shaker is a lot better than Ice Clone. One would have be to be incredibly stupid to walk into the clone, but at least Ice shaker froze them by being close to him. You need to touch the clone. You didnt need to touch him to be frozen by the ice shaker. I have never seen the result of walking into an ice clone since the day I bought MK:D. Thats how useless it is..

Somnambulist, i understand ur views bout the shaker. But ice shaker is an aggressive move, while clone is passive cum defensive. Also, the lcone is not really meant to freeze anyone. Its meant for a sub player to screw with the opponent's mind. The race in life is important. Once sub takes a medium lead in life, there is no better way of turtling than clone mixed with 50 50. True, smoke's cloud is better, but consider the whole package. Smoke has no moves to back the cloud up with sub has special moves and the right styles with the right safe moves to get the job done. The main point is that ice shaker is dominantly aggresive, meaning sub will have to get on the attack. Some might say sit back and wait til the opponents jumps for examply before doin ice shaker. Fine. But if the opponent jumps a clone would get him too.. Once the shaker is blocked or the opponent steps back, sub can be punished. A spear in the midst of a shaker hurts. Clone is more useful, just realise that it really is not meant to freeze, but to allow you to play defensively to the greatest degree of effectiveness, as well as creating the right breaks offensively with footwork and smart play.

I do agree that with the new 3d gameplay the clone's usefulness is almost completely gone, but I have a decent idea about what they could do with it in future games. You've all been saying how with the clone, you're still vulnerable to projectiles. I think they should totally overhaul the intended use of the clone.
When you make the clone and stand behind it, it acts as an all-out shield, both freezing opponents who touch it and taking a projectile hit or two. Since the game is now 3d people could obviously sidestep this and attack without worrying about the clone, so it would be used as a temporary way to get out of the situation. You're low on life, and they toss a projectile your way - you now have the option to use this clone to buy yourself a little protection. It would not last very long though, to not make it too powerful. A few projectiles would kill it.
I also agree with what J8son said, I'd love to see the clone actually be destructible and shatter somehow when broken. Perhaps the clone would actually act as a solid object, and not just dissipate after a few seconds. I don't know, these are just a few rough thoughts on revolutionizing the ice clone.

Oh man you guys might not know when to use the clone I use it all the time and the comp gets trapped and I play on medium not novice. I like it better then the ice shaker or whatever it's called. All the guy had to do was wait till u finished shaking and then they'd get a simple combo on you. While the clone you can set up so many more options. Though the best clone I think was in MK4 I was insane with Sub-Zero in that game I don't know what everyone hates MK4 I thought it was amazing I remember going to the arcades and spending money on that game like crazy. Everytime I ripped the guys head off with Sub-Zero or ate away at my opponents face with Reptile anyone around would go nuts. I like it a lot. All in al though my vote goes to the clone.
