The issue is did Shinnok get it(the fake one) back before MK4 and think he had it throughout MK4.

First few times I saw the intro movie, I thought they were all dead (except Raiden), but on closer inspection, Quan Chi ducks behind Raiden as Raiden's about to do the ethereal blast and doesn't appear to be there in the next shot, so I think Quan Chi at the least is alive, but I'm hoping all three of them are alive and something like the Desperation Alliance topic, but I'm hoping Quan and Shang end back up on the evil side sometime.

Quan Chi and Shang will ALWAYS be evil, even if they do side with Raiden their intentions are still selfish and evil. :)

have any of u played mk mythologies? i mean the 1st sub zero went thru fujin, the water god, fire god, and earth god, jus to get this thing, he was tricked by quan chi, quan chi took it from him, and then gave a fake one to shinnok, they neva said he was shinnoks, they said its been locked away for years, i guess they locked it away when the dk went down the first time, it makes sense to me.

I guess, but they have to be 'good' for a bit. I'm now completely of the theory that they've all survived, because, after watching the few seconds of it repeatedly, it looks (to me) that Quan Chi jumps towards Raiden (who's going white, ala teleporting) and then when it cuts to where you can see Shang, he disappears for about a second before the ball explodes, so my interpretation: They've all survived.
