If I saw this correctly when Darrius did his arm rip fatality he was standing away from his opponent, and when the fatality begins hes close. I don't have a problem with this since I hate standing on a certain spot to do a Fatal.

Triple agreed. And yes, it can clearly be seen that before Darrius does his fatality he goes into "Fatality Mode" 1st.

I see your point...however if you read the recent gaming magazine that gave the combinations for various characers fatalities and hari kiri's...you'll see that one of them (I think it is Nightwolfs Hatchet throw) says that you must be standing far away form your oponent.
I guess there is no real proof either way...but it would be nice to have the distance factor back. Just adds another little extra bit of complexity to the whole game :)

The distance owned!I guess it must have been to hard for alot of people to say they don't it back.i loved the rush of the distance/fatality timer bit.No distance takes no fun to pull off.It getds mindless after a couple of times.

While I never found it necessary to test, I heard that in MKDA, you could do a Fatality outside of the Fatality stance, but THEN the distance rule kicked into effect.
BUT, if you're in stance, it no longer matters. I imagine this is the case in Deception.

well its not exactly the same thint either way...
If its an action button(kick, punch) and u are close up and u fuck up and u kick him...its over... but like in DA if u started furthur back it made no difference if u mess up 1 x cuz ur kick struck air...

Not true. You can do it out of stance at any distance as well.

I was thinking about this the other day.
I found it was "mindless" in MK:DA too, after doing them each a few times, and i want the distance factor to return as well.
Then i realised with the addition of hari kiri's, in a 2P game, by the time you would have found the right distance and pressed the correct command for the fatality, your opponent would probably have just topped himself.
Seeing less fatalities isn't cool, no matter how stupid or repetitive.

Ya know, when DA changed the need to be at a certain distance I was thinking "Thank god"!!. But then as time went on I began to miss the need to be a certain distance. And even more so after reading this thread.
Maybe it was the thrill of being in the arcade, thinking of which fatality you wanted to finish your opponent off with; while you were fighting, then actually nailing the fatality... it was like a slap in the face when someone beat you but couldn't pull off a fatality ya know? Like, in a way, you still got the last laugh.
Or of course.... I could just be rambling

Two great points there.I totally did not take into consideration about the Hara kiris. That would prove to be frustrating, trying to pull off the distance on a fatality when your opponent just taps a combination.*Sigh....I guess the fast fingers deal between two opponents can be interesting.

When there's distance in fatals, the person who looses has an advantage. Because he/she doesn't have to look for the distance, it's easier to perform a hara-kiri.
That's why I think the distance is not back. I wouldn't mind if it's back, but I just don't think so.

I miss the distance requirement to be honest... MK2 you had next to NO time to pull of fatalities, so when you did one, it was special, period. I feel this added to it's shock value a little too, more anticipation and pressure to pull it off.
Adding a "stance", like the one in DA, is just lazy. Screwing up the button presses is part of the glam of it all. If you get too close by pressing forward one too many times, and then punch your opponent by pressing the wrong button, you shouldn't get a fatality that round.
Call me a purist if you must, but I miss the good old days where a ducking low kick to the shin in error was something that would make an entire arcade laugh at your butt.

I personally hope the distance requirement is back.
Fatalities should be performed at the correct distance.
I also agree that it adds to the shock value and puts more pressure (which is a good thing if u ask me) to the person performing it.
It would sorta suck FOR ME (especially when I loose) if fatalities were easily performed at any distance.

EXACTLY!It sux that anyone random no brainer can hit the stance button and perform a fatality. There was nothing like a elbow to the face after it said finish him.Not only did that allow you to laugh at that person for not performing the fatality, but t also allowed you to talk a little junk as well."What happened, you forgot to hold block??"was a classic example of shit talking.wink

In the latest issue of Game Informer it has Nightwolf's fatality listed. It gives the move on how to execute it, and it says "(Must Be Far Away From Opponent)". So possibly some fatalities are distance oriented.
