Now, keep in mind that I do have a 9-5 job, and commitments outside of this site. Hence, don't expect results for a couple of days. There's things to be considered, certain ones I need to compare to each other, etc. Stay tuned...

Did you get my Khameleon?

Well, after five grueling hours of comparing, critiquing and considering (and reconsidering) - behold now, the final results of the contest's first round.
I'll start with a short synopsis of my impressions of each entry (minus revealing details - we've still got another round to go before we can do that):


Drifting_Ravage:

Appearance: Hmm. The choice of torso and pant motif combined with the helmet and boots kind of gives her an olympic swimmer look...still, the jewelry helps to bring out her royalty presence.

Fighting: Very good, the styles suit her, particularly the hand-to-hand. The sword is a nice touch, and the style is familiar. The specials are decent, but the throw and pop-up moves are strange choices. I can't say I could see her with those.

Story: While this certainly is detailed, there's too much about Reptile, not enough about her. And there's no ending. :(

Overall, not bad, but the look brings it down a tad, and she needs to be more present in her bio.


Keith:

Appearance: Without going into specifics, I did not think that the pants would work so well, but you've managed to pull it off. All of her gear has a very nice flow to it - hearty congratulations on making it all work so well. Hell, even the tail looks convincing...

Fighting: The moveset is great, but it loses a point for one which doesn't suit her at all. As for the styles and weapon: The hand-to-hand keeps it real, and the weapon was a nice compliment to her look. Way to go!

Story: Sheer excellence. Kudos on making her prevention of Armageddon her primary concern, and tying her in with Caro. It stands to reason that she has some sense in her head.

All in all, VERY impressive all around.


Kurisenshi:

Appearance: Wow. Talk about breaking the mold. What I like most about this one is the decision that went into the primary skin color - not all reptiles have to be green, and this was good thinking. I also like the flow of the clothing - my only problem is that the red/violet kind of clashes with everything else. Still, this one was daring, and managed to pull it off okay.

Fighting: She's very in your face, which very much suits her look. Taking a bit from MKT here, and the knee move works. The projectile's a bit of an odd choice, though. I also think that the weapon and stance are very suited to the character.

Story: What one would expect from Khameleon, pretty much. It's very well worded, but more backstory would have really helped.

Overall: It dares to be different, and I like it, even if it's a bit over-stylized for the character - I kinda think "DOA" when I look at her.


trynax:

Appearance: Well, it's interesting to see someone go for the human-looking flavor. The spiral motif is nice, as are the belt and neck pieces, but it just screams "Slightly updated alternate" to me. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but there's not much new.

Fighting: I see an influence from Jade in fighting stance - a nice touch - and the sword chosen along with the stance are great choices for her weapon. Classic special moves, along with a certain one introduced in MKD which works very well.

Story: Not much here, but I do like the fact that it ties in with Reptile's MKA ending. Nice to see her as evil, too!

Overall: It's a good creation, but there's just not enough that's new. If this had been an alt, it would have got more points.


NiftyGod27:

Appearance: Holy crap! Khameleon's in the house, and she's going to rip you to fucking pieces! This comes off as regal yet threatening, and it's a bold departure...this is very much how I could picture Kham were she an authoritative figure among the Zaterrans. It goes in a different direction from the others, which is refreshing. And it looks so good in kombat!

Fighting: Her fighting styles give off the impression of someone capable of command and control. The hand-to hand stance takes no prisoners, and the sword suits the look. Very nice. The special moves are a complete departure from the standard fare in a good way, but I can't help but think the teleport throws it off a little - not by much, though.

Storyline: Ouch. You've contradicted the fact that states that the Zaterrans lost to Kahn through Mortal Kombat - that's how they were annhilated. Points lost. Still, nice ending - good to see Kahn get what he deserves.

Overall: This is a complete reinvention of the character, and deadly is the word for it.


28POiSoN_ShAdOW89:

Appearance: It pains me to say this, but I can't say that this one appeals to me. The combination of accessory and gloves just doesn't work - it's too much, and the hair, especially the color, is just outlandish. It even clips through the neck accessory.

Fighting: Standard classic fare, which works. Suitable fighting styles, good weapon...and even though I can't say I like the appearance, the throw in particular works with it.

Storyline: It begins nicely, but it involves having to make some retcons in order to make it work within the canon, which is something that should be avoided. I do, however, like that there's a non-canon and canon ending, which was a nice touch.

Overall: The story shows potential, the fighting styles are passable (and storyline-related, which is nice), but the appearance really brings it down. :(


Sub-Zero2:

Appearance: Standard Khameleon fare, and it works - what I like best are the sash and neck accessory and their color, which really go with her skin. The bracelets and anklets (again - a popular choice) actually do mesh with the gloves and boots given her in this case. I just don't know if the hat works with everything else. Overall it's pretty good, and although I'm tempted to say it's too altish, it's just different enough to work.

Fighting: And we have here a scrapper! This Khameleon seems like the type who'll bash you through a plate glass window if you mess with her. The combination of classic moves is good, and flows nicely. Once more I see a certain something chosen as a weapon - because it seems to work so well. Also, love the throw!

Overall: Good, but where's the story, man? You've gotta have that, and that's points lost...


ErmacMK5:

Appearance: A shocking move in ditching the grey color motif entirely for black/yellow combo. This is very regal, but I can't help but think a better color could have been used for the gloves - they seem a bit tooyellow. Overall, very striking, and a significant change. Nice!

Specials: These moves in combination with her look give off the impression of someone skilled in dark arts - the projectile in particular. Very menacing, and suited to this incarnation.

Overall: There's no throw, no fighting stances, weapon, bio or ending, and that's what really hurts this. A character cannot win on appearance and specials alone. It's a shame, because I'd like to see this taken further.


Matthewwadad:

Appearance: While some things compliment each other nicely, like the neck accessory and the torso choices, the pants and shoes together just give her way too much of a western feel. But major props are due for a darker, unique choice of skin color, and also for successfully blending the tail with the skin, which can be tough to do just right. And the face is very well tuned - I think yours holds the honor of having the greatest all-around face.

Specials: Some of the most popular choices appear here - a nice mix of old, with a bit of flavor from elsewhere thrown in. And again, nice throw... The stance seems to work, but I'm not sure about the choice of sword...

Story: Although we've got contradictions to the plot, points given nevertheless for being very thorough. Everything is well written - something which always helps. And a very satisfying ending, too!


And now...the victors:


First place - Keith

There are lots of factors to consider when choosing the champion. While there are certain things about each entry that are superb, Keith wins this because he gets practically everything right. Among all the entries submitted to me, his above all is how I could picture Khameleon were she in MKA. She's got a smooth appearance, great specials (mostly), a story better than anything MKA ever dreamed up that just so happened to fit with it...she's the perfect countrpoint to Reptile as we know him now. Applause, please!

Second place - Niftygod27

Niftygod takes second place for creating something so contrary to what I was expecting to see, but yet simply astounding. I still can't believe he manged to make her so different, and make it somehow work. The story was top-notch, even if it didn't flow with the MK plot.

Third place - Matthewwadad

Matthewwadad gets the bronze for the thoroughness of his story, an inventive color scheme, and careful attention to facial detail. I'd love for his choices to be her default face and color!

Round 2, which allows for the creation of your version of a classic Khameleon, is the one I think I'm going to get the most entries on (I already have a few, too!). That said, I'll allow discussion to go on here for a bit before I create a new thread.

My inspiration came from mostly Li Mei's Primary costome. I think that Khameleon should have a sort of Li Mei feel in terms of costomes. I really don't like Li Mei that much but I think here costome's are good. Also, I used that greyish color for here primary colors because most people identify Khemeleon with the color grey. I added some gold props on her too to give her a more complete look, not just some created mumbo jumbo. I wanted here to look like a real character in the game. Most characters in the game have a neat look to them and usually match nice too.

Only thing I changed was her Eye lids, Eye angle and her Breast size.

I set her Eye lids to 2 left clicks on the bar from default. Meaning, just hit left twice on that attribute. More of a lizard feel.

I set her Eye angle to the max. All filled with red. (Gives her a fighting look)

I set it to the smallest size. (come on, a lizard wit big tities? I don't see that happenin too often)

If you're worried about Jade's move not being included, I had no choice because either way one of Mileena's or Jade's would have been left out the list. Not my fault -_-. Think of it like this though, Does Chameleon have any of Noob Saibot's moves? So I think it could work.

To me khameleon seems like a scrapper, I mean she looks like she's ready to throw down wit just about anyone and this stance says it all. It looks like a stance made for Shorter fighters imo. Thats why I gave it too her.

Weapon: Drakesword
Stance: Kirehashi

The name Curved Sword is placed there because the sword is infact curved, simple as that. Also, on the handle of the sword, there are green bands around it and it's close to the color of her skin. Looks good with her. I gave here the stance Kirehashi because she is a lizard and that stance looks lizardly.

The reason I gave her that voice is because although she is small, she is not exactly human. So I thought it would make sence for her to have a more aggressive voice like Mileena, who also isn't exactly human. Btw, Large female 3 sounds exactly like Mileena's voice.

I gave her the female victory stance because its pretty much the only one that looks good on her.

Wooh, I'm so happy my Khameleon was chosen. Congratulations to everyone else and for those who've posted their images, niiice. Just a quick question, I would like to replace a move in my Khameleon's movelist because it doesn't fit her and I would rather she have one that does. About a week after I sent in my entry I changed this move myself in my own Khameleon but forgot to tell Shadaloo. Is it too late? And does the movelist affect the next round as well or can I change it for that too?

this is my personal point of view about Saurian's extinction and Khameleon and Reptile's involving.
read it because i think that is very interesting :)

Name: Khameleon
Place of Origin: Zaterra
Allies: Reptile
Foes: Shao Khan,Shang Tsung

My name is Khameleon and i'm the only female survived to the extinction of my glorious race, the Saurians.
The author of this genocide was the vile Outworld's Emperor Shao Khan.....he conquered our homeland Zaterra, killing and enslaving all the members of the Saurians.
There was only another member left....Reptile......who served Shao Khan for many years, in exchange of freeing the slaved Saurians.
But our race history wasn't that simple....there are things that nobody knows.....i'm the only one who knows the truth!
The Saurians race was a glorious,rich and well structured civilization. (note by Dark_Schneider84: i imagine it as a atzec/maya like civilization).
It was a Matriarchal society and all the members were good warriors,ninjas and sorcerors.
After an ancient great war, we transfered from the Earth to a new realm, Zaterra.
We reconstruct our civilization and growed powerful again......and made a strong alliance with the Outworld's Emperor, Shao Khan.
We helped each other to grow both our empires as good allies.....then our Matriarch gave birth to two children....me and Reptile.
Yes, we are brother and sister.....nobody knows about this....even Reptile.
Saurians' tradition, due to the Matriarchal structure, was that the first daughter will become the future Matriarch and the first son will become a skilled ninja....
....at the service of the ally.
We were separated from the birth....i was grown by my race and Reptile was given to Shao Khan to grow him.
Both of us grown and became skilled ninjas....but we never meet.
But my mother and all the Saurians, never thought that the Emperor Shao Khan would have betrayed us.
He ordered to his powerful sorceror Shang Tsung, to manipulate Reptile's mind to his will.
He sent him to our Zaterra, as the ambassador, to assassinate our Matriarch and stole our Kamidogu, an ancient artifact, the catalyst of our power,knowledge and protection from the invaders.
During the false meet, finally i saw him....my brother....but he didn't notice me....he was completly under Shang Tsung's control....he was like a brainless puppet.
During a private meet in my mother room......he assassinated her.....and ran away in invisibility towards the Artifacts Chamber....killed the guards with impressive skills and stole Zaterra's Kamidogu.
My brother....a traitor....how could it happen?
He returned in Outworld, to Shao Khan....and gave our Kamidogu to him.
This was the beginning of our extinction.....
Shao Khan army invaded our realm and destroyed our civilization in few days....without our Matriarch and the Kamidogu, we were too weak for powerful Shao Khan's troops.
They slayered almost everybody...and enslaved the very few survivors.
I'm the only one who survived to this genocide....thanks to our sorcerors who hidden me with an arcane spell.
After this short war, Shao Khan merged our Zaterra to his Outworld and our race was definitively extincted.
I was alone...nothing around me...only death and destruction....my mother was death and all my fellows were gone...only my brother was left....he, who caused all this.
I decited to revenge the Saurians, killing him......but when i was next to find him....i heard about what Shang Tsung did to him.
My brother wasn't more a traitor....he was simply manipulated by him.
I decided to find him and show him the truth and free him from his mental cage.
But when i found him and tried to explain what real happened....he attacked me....i fought him and tried to free him from the spell...but i couldn't do nothing.....so i ran away.
Until Shang Tsung remained alive, the spell would never be broken.....so i had to kill him!
For many years i tried to slay him but i never been successful.
Also i attended to Reptile's fall into madness....i attended to his exile to Netherealm when Shao Khan was defeated, to his new alliance with the Elder God Shinnok, his return to his previous master, Shao Khan's death and rising of the Deadly Alliance, the Dragon King Onaga rebirth in Reptile's Body....and finally Shang Tsung's death, and so Reptile's mind manipulation release.
I couldn't do nothing to avoid all his despair.....but, fortunatly, the Edenian Queen Sindel defeated Onaga and removed his soul from the body of my poor brother.
I was there when this happened....i assisted Reptile when he awoke....i explained to him who i was and the truth about his manipulation and our race extinction.........he was desperate.....he felt responsible for all that happened to our glorious race.
But i said him that he wasn't guilty because he wasn't conscious during all this.....the true guilty was always been the vile Shao Khan.
Then i said him that together we could repopulate our race and if we could recreate Zaterra's Kamidogu, we could also recreate our homeland.

This is all the truth about Saurians' extinction cause.....

Now our only purpose is to revive our glorious race and our wonderful homeland Zaterra.....and the great battle at the pyramid that will begin shortly, will be our change to do all this, with great Blaze's power....


-----Ending:

During the great battle, many fighters fought each other to death.....also me and Reptile fought.
Beating numerous opponents, we reached the top of the pyramid and fought the firespawn Blaze.
With our combined skills, we destroyed it easily.......then his immense power flowed into our bodies....giving us great magic powers.....
With these new powers, we were able to recreate Zaterra's Kamidogu and placed it in our new lair......
We placed also a giant snake as a guardian.....to our eggs.....
When they will hatch, Saurian's rebirth will begin....and we will recreate our Zaterra, and revenge all our suffering to the only responsible......Shao Khan!!!

Schneider, you're late for the first round. But if your Khameleon resembles the old UMK3 costume, you may want to erase that post and PM me for entry into the next!

And Keith, you may certainly tweak whatever features you like!
