The LAME, BORING, STALE text endings have got to go! Time for Mortal Kombat to move toward Full-Motion Video Endings, AGAIN!

We just have to hope the MK Team pays attention and doesn't get all lazy on us. Yeah, I hope some of the Midway team are browsing the forum, and are checking this thread out. I think it's a good one. Would you rather watch a book on a television monitor, or a movie? |
A film of course. I prefer a book in my hand!
And yeah, the MK Team have the resources to make FMVs work. They'd be the icing on the cake in MK7.

I watch the MK4 endings all the time, i loved them. And that was then. Imagine nowadays, what those endings could be like, instead of reading, Mileena and the Baraka engaged in a raging battle, you could see an atmospheric fued. With high resolution and a nice ending. This is the 21st century, Mortal Kombat has the technology, and FMVS would take a good bit of time, but they're amazing to look at. I remember Mortal Kombat 4 coming out and be winning the game for the first time. How happy I was to see my favourite character, Sonya, react and move like a real person and not just mentioned in an ending. The models for the characters wouldn't take any longer than making a promotional image. Making the animation, I don't know, they use Motion Capture and I don't know how long that takes to convert into a character model. But using motion capture with next gen technology would ensure amazing endings. The old endings were nice and had nice pics. But having a mobie were the characters have speech and movement would be worth a little wait...

Brilliant ideas!! MK needs movie endings, maybe even biography movies too, instead of just a picture of the character and a paragraph about them. Twisted Metal did it, so can MK. And to all the people that say the programmers should spend more time on the actual game and not movies, well, they should have been doing both years ago. Sure itd take longer, but for once theyd make an MK game that didnt seem somewhat half assed.
Yeah, but don't you think Midway should spend their time fixing the fighting engine first? I mean, FMV endings and better graphics are all goody but when the core fighting engine is shit then they really mean crap. Really. FMV endings and cool graphics are only second on my priority list.

Ok, not trying to start anything here, but I was just thinking of something...
How does this relate to Deception? I know it touches down on how it does not have FMV endings, but that's it. Then Urban goes into talking about what SHOULD be done in MK7. Shouldn't this techincally be in general discussion? Correct me if i'm wrong please. Oh and Urban, this isn't a bash on you, it just crossed my mind and I'm wondering what you think as well.
As far as the topic goes, what type of FMV videos are you looking for, Urban? Are you looking for Square-Enix type FMV's, or just your run of the mill type stuff? I await your response.

I can see where your going with it and the main reason i agree with you is that it would give me more of a reason to beat the game with everyone. in tekken 4 you could watch everyones fmv and change their costume in it. well with this game the stills arent worth it cuz people post them online and you get to see it without any work. ive never seen any tekken bios online and its because they are fmvs. i would love to have these implemented but only if they were good or at least as good as the sub zero vs baraka one. the MK team has awesome graphical abiblities and i agree that those shoudnt go to waste but we always do have to think that time and money are issues. even for mk7 it would take them a while to acheive this. if the mk team maybe swapped out 1 mode in this game and left one then they would have time to up the graphics, gameplay, and endings of mk7. once they acheive this then they can focus on everything in stages. i think that this time they were wise in adding a few new modes but mk7 is gonna need a serious graphic and gameplay boost to contend with some of the other games. i actually woudl rather have better fatality fmvs than having ending fmvs but that doesnt mean i dont want them both
ill just let the MK team do what they do and play the games when they come out! i think that they are doin the best they can and that is good enough for me.

I think cinematics are a big part of the satisfaction of beating the game. In MK4, the gamer wanted to beat it with every character because of this. I think the developers should definitly take the time out to add it to deception. If they didnt its far too late anyway. I hope they did though...anways its still gonna be a great game, but if your a sucka for a good story line like myself you will be a bit disapointed

I know what you are trying to say UrbanSmooth. I would like to see FMV style endings for MK7 though I didn't really mind the way the endings were in MK: DA and I'm not going to really mind that the endings will be in the same format in MK: D. I'm more concerned about the actual storylines in them.
As much as I'd like to see FMV style endings with great acting, etc. there are some things that you have to take into account such as time constraints and money issues. Sure, they made a lot from selling MK: DA and I'm sure that they'll be making a lot more with MK: D, but it's not like they are going to exactly have all of that money just to be able to do things like these.
The people working on the game have to get paid and money has to be spent on working on the much more significant aspects of the next MK game so it's a lot easier said than done.

FMVs will only enhance Mortal Kombat, and for people such as myself who do care about the story to some extent, it would be all the better.
With all the technology and funds at their disposal, Midway has no good reason not to bring back video endings for each and every character in MK7. Even 20-second-long clips would suffice. And if lack of manpower becomes an issue, they can simply hire more people.
This is not complicated.
