I, personally don't get the Hari Kari's (regardless of it's roots), but I can't judge a game that is'nt already out. However, I do know that suicide is a serious subject, and is nothing to laugh at, rather it's in a videogame, or in real life. And, I know that there are going to me some people who feel the same way. This is why I can see controversy brueing, all over again (like with MK1).

true but hari-kari is the honorable way of suicide and it is respected amongst some people. It might be a problem in US and stuff but Japan probably not and I don't have a problem.

This will create a STORM of controversy, much NEEDED controversy that will most likely boost sales.

If Midway can get away with fatalities, then Harin Kiri's should be a walk in the park.

I would have to agree, if they're not crying about the fatalities, they probably won't make a big deal about the suicides. The fighter dies regardless, and it's gonna be a gory mess either way. If you're offended by one, you should be offended by both. Personally, in a REAL LIFE situation, I would be more upset about a murder than a suicede... but hey.. that's just me.

Controversy == $$$

Most of the "concerned morality groups" just don't get this, and end up tripling the sales of their target, in some cases a product that would have hardly been noticed otherwise.

Trust me, Midway has gotten plenty comfortable in the hot waters of controversy, Hari Kari's would just be the newest chapter. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

As for suicide, no it is not funny in real life, but neither is ripping someone's spine out, or lighting them on fire. MK has been getting away with stuff like that for over 10 years.

well in some cultures the hara kiri as in japanese is a honorable way for a warrior to die, it's just not to be murdered by their enemies, they rather take their lives than been killed in any other way. There will be the same controversy as for fatalities, suicide is not worse than murder, i mean i dont think that hangin yourself could be worse then ripping the fuck outta someone

i agree with alot of people, controversy is exactly whats needed, if i were midway i wouldnt worry, theyve dealt with it before.

without the huge controversy over mk1 i doubt there would have even been an mk2

I dont think Boon and midway can get in trouble for suicidalities since the characters are highy unrealistic.

Bah, that's nothing compared to some of the things I've see today. And I believe it is much worse to kill somebody than to kill yourself. I think nobody really cares except for uptight politicians with their head so far up their ass that they can see through their belly-button

Mortal Komabt has been passed by many games when it comes to controversy.

Manhunt has things in it that make Mortal Kombat look tamed.

A Hari Kari move wont do anything if most other games get away with more.

suicide is suicide and there is no honerable way to do it regardless of whatever name you call it in japan

it just means you are a loser either you cant deal with stress so you do it or you are afraid to be killed by others so you do it yourself

screw the suicide idea in MK always go fighting

Yeah suicide is bad.

But I wouldnt call a person who does it weak.

We dont know happens when we die, if theres a after life, heaven, hell we dont know.

But to go into the unknown willingly takes some strength.

But then again not being able to deal with your problems and you resort to sucicide is a sign of weakness. So I guess a people who kill themselves are weak.

I think its more honorable to go down fighting. You know your back against the wall, there 30 cops outside and you run out the front door with guns blazing. Just kidding.

But to kill youself is the easy way out.

I think it's a horrible, disgusting idea, and if they're doing it simply to boost sales as someone mentioned, I'd just as easily not buy it.

I like the ideal in the game, but i'll probly never use it.If that person beats me fair and square he has earned the right to finish me.But if the person who beats me was real cheap then I wold probly kill myself just to irk them.

I THINK IT IS HORRIFIC!!!

Why would a game implement such a thing??

I'd much rather run with the mob, beat people down with baseball bats, steal cars, shoot police officers, and sleep with hookers.

OMG... PEOPLE... IT'S a GAME!!! IT HAS A MATURE RATING... DON'T LET YOUR KIDS PLAY IT IF YOU DON'T APPROVE... IF YOU DON'T APPROVE, THAN DON'T PLAY!!!

Honestly, I have no objections. It is a cool addition in my book.

I KNOW that games are fantasies. I feel for the ones who can't differentiate. If you can't, it might be time to see a psychiatrist, or to start attending school on the special bus.

Games/Movies don't provoke violence.. overpopulation does. Put a bunch of rats in a cage... see what happens.

Here is my point of view on the hari kari's:

In real life: according to my religion, it (suidicide) is the worst possibly sin you can do. Taking away the most precious gift granted to you by God. Like a big fat slap to God's face. And trust me, you don't wanna do that to the big man upstairs. The end result would be for the individuals soul to torment in hell for an eternity. In other words, "first class trip to hell".

For MKdeception:

I think the idea is kool and is only for entertainment purposes. It is just there to annoy the person who beat you and acts sort of a reject a fatality. I think the idea is great for the game. And in no way should some idiotic 14 year olds try to enact the hari kari moves just because they saw it in this game and then have there parents sue midway for million of dollars while the stupid kid shouldn't have been playing it in the first place since it's an M rated game (17 and up).

All I have to say on this subject is this: If that little pussy Joe Leiberman tries to get his claws on this game and prevent it from coming out, like he did with Thrill Kill, he's gonna be one sorry bastard.
