You don't want the Playstation version because you want to play it do you? These signed copies of Mortal Kombat: Deception by the MK: Development team are considered collectables, and you shouldn't even think about opening them.

Well I submitted an entry for the contest, but the best prize would have been having one of your ideas make it into the next MK game.

yeah, but what if your idea is total crap? besides, maybe mkonline dosent have the power to execute that decision. it would be cool though. i also submitted a fanart, but its just liu kang and kung lao stick style. i dont expect to win, but they were still pretty damn hard to make.furiousfurious

Um, Is this a JOKE?
A fan art contest for the new game MK:SM and they are giving away a MKD GAME???
Am I missing something here?
Sure its signed and all, but, uh, how about a signed MK:SM game??
Heck, I don't even CARE if its signed as long as its MK:SM on XBOX.
Everybody that gives a rip about MK that has a current gen console allready has MKD.
I was excited that there was a contest and was thinking of some great ideas... then I read what the prize was... then it all went away.
How disappointing. sad

Now you can't be serious either... Most people do have MK Deception already for their console of choice.. Let's say if you win.. were you expecting to OPEN your copy?? We're giving away a signed copy of MK: Deception by Ed Boon and the rest of the key MK: Deception team members. It shouldn't matter if you already have MK: Deception! This is a collector's item! You don't plan on opening it if you win do you? If you actually opened the game, you take away all the value of what it is. It's a collecter's prize, a chance to own a signed copy of MK: Deception that you can show your friends. I explained this to torchia as well earlier in this thread.

I'm really confused... don't enter this contest if you want to win MK: Deception to play it. Because that requires opening a collector's item and I would consider yourself... well an idiot to put it lightly! tongue. And yeah, it would be cool to have signed copies of MK:SM instead, but these signed copies are left over from another promotion we did, and besides not the entire core orginal MK Team is making Shaolin Monks, like MK: Deception. So in reality, this is a better prize.

In addition to what Scott said, I think I should point out if we COULD guarantee a signed copy of MK:SM, we certainly would be offering it. Unfortunately, we cannot make such a guarantee. Trust me, we thought of this before we made the final decision on prizes. smile

Seriously, though... these aren't meant to be played. They're collector's items. If you opened them to play them, you've just ruined their value. You can get MKD whenever you want, for whatever system you want. However, these are two of the only four (that I know of) autographed copies in existence. That alone should make them worth something down the road.

Just my $.02...

I already adressed this on the chat.

I don't even HAVE an XBOX, I'd rather just have the XBOX one. :-/
Exactly, it isn't meant to be opened. Let's say you went to a Barry Bonds' game and he hits a Home Run which breaks a record and you catch the ball and he later signs it for you, will you use it to practice Baseball with your little bother? I don't think so, you would put it in a safe place. Well, it's the same thing with the signed copy of MKD, you don't play it, you put it in a safe place to later show it or whatever.

First of all- Scott-howell. Try growing up. Apparently you do not have the ability to post a difference of opinion/rebuttal without sliding in a side-handed personal insult (implying I would be an idiot ). You are a good example of what is the WRONG kind of forum poster/MK fan.
And as I suspected- this prize is a "left over".
Also, there is absolutley no comparison between a dev signed copy of a game and (would be) sports memorabilia (barry bonds comment). I cannot imagine any point in the future where a game dev signed game package would be "worth something", other than for the game disc inside the package. I havent seen any kind market for game dev signed game packaging personally. As a result, I fail to see the value of a game signed by its developers.
When I see a contest related to a new game coming out, I think anyone would initially assume and expect the prize to be more directly related to said new game. That is my opinion. I will add, though, I will at least extend that even though I do not have any interest in this prize or the contest as a result of the prize, I do think some credit is at least due to the person(s) that acquired and offered up the prize. Hopefully enough will be interested to make the contest a success.
Good day

UPDATE

We've gone ahead and made a quick clarification in the rules based on a concern thrown our way yesterday. Submissions involving coloring another artist's artwork will not be accepted.

If you have any questions concerning submissions, you can direct them to AcjBizar for Fan Art, and ~Crow~ for Fan Fiction.

Good day

Before you start criticizing our prizes stop assuming it's easy to have any type of prize in the first place. We're a fan site, not directly involved with Midway, so with that in mind know that if we could offer you MK Shaolin Monks, which maybe you are indirectly wishing we were giving out, then tough luck. We give away what we can. Try being happy we even have the luxury of giving out anything to fans like yourself. If you believe like you state that some credit is due to the people that brought forward these prizes,(you're talking to him), then do just that. Signed copies of MK: Deception won't be near as worth as sports memorabilia, but it's worth a lot more in people's eyes on this site than giving away a copy of Shaolin Monks. Besides which, our contest will have ended before the game even comes out. Left over prizes or not, we're giving away these prizes because they are far more valuable then giving away some $50.00 game. You can't argue that, and I'm sure there's plenty of people on here who would have to disagree with you. If you can do better, throw your own contest.

Also, to clairfy I said anyone who would open a signed copy of MK: Deception would be an idiot in my opinion. Not planning on opening it? - then don't worry. I won't think you're an idiot. You can continue to label me as what's "wrong" with this site all you want, my feelings won't get hurt, but think rationally about this for a moment. You can get MK:SM anywhere; try enjoying a nice collector's item. If not, don't enter.

OMG, this is so in the bag for me...

Plus I get to have a second MK collectors item if I win because I already have a special Spiegel only award thingy, and I got the only one to my knowledge. I believe it says 100,000 copies sold of MK or something to that extent...furiousgrin

I too, expected the prize to be a copy of Shaolin Monks instead of MKD. I already bought MKD, played, and sold it, since I was so disspointed in the title to begin with. Regardless, I submitted an entry just now for the heck of it, should be fun.

Truth be told, I'd much rather have a regular unsigned copy of Shaolin Monks, then a signed copy of MKD. Just got the demo of Monks, and it's ridiculously fun.

It would be great to have a creativity contest like this one in the future with it's own dedicated prize, and not some scraps left over from other promotions.

The submissions aren't going to be approved until after the contest deadline has passed and the judges have decided upon the winner. This will prevent any sort of bias from being developed due to seeing other submissions for some of the latter entries.

All the submissions will be posted together upon the day the winners are announced.

Here we are, three or four more days left to submit, and I'm still pumping out chapters. I may end up cutting it off after about one or two more chapters, but if I win at least third place, I promise a sequel, mark my words.
