I was wondering, does anyone have any guesses how many elder gods there are? This could help some in reasoning what going on with them. In the movie MK:A there was only three one of Wind, one of Water and one of Fire. In the games it hints at a handful or two. Just how many Elder Gods does it take to run (or ignore) things?

the elder gods must do something because their own existence is danger, maybe the dragon king is far more powerful than them, or maybe he's a fallen elder god

For one thing, the Elder gods are not the protectors of the realms, they are their overseers. They watch as realms are created and destroyed, with eons of untold wisdom (or something like that). They also have rules, codes they abide by, as do the other lesser gods.

Rule #1 (the only one that applies to this post directly): DON'T INTERFERE WITH FREE WILL OR THE NATURAL PROGRESSION OF THE REALMS.

Raiden broke this rules when he gathered Earth's warriors and entered Outworld. Even though he did so with the best of intentions, he could have hurt more that he helped. You never know, if Raiden had listened and not got involved, the DA could have killed themselves and buried the DK's army for rest of enertinty.

Interesting perspective. However when one's own exsistence is in question, you would believe they would take steps to secure that exsistence.

In many ancient mythologies the GODs are passive and do not care for humans. For example Greek mythology (Zuess) the GODs often tormented humans and had chose their favorites to bless. I think the GODs in MK are basically the same way. The humans are for their amusement and nothing more. Except for Raiden who has taken a personal liking to humans and willing to help any way he can.

I kinda agree....however don't forget Fujin. He might also be mortal friendly, but he now has Raiden's old gig of protecting earthrealm. Unless I'm mistaken, Raiden is now pretty much a free agent. He is already in defiance of the Elder Gods, so anything he does now really can't make things much worse in regards to them. (Unless he pulls a Shinnok and tries to take them over.) The fact that he still has his thunder god powers shows that they may not have the ability to remove his godhood.

When Shinnok attacked the Elder Gods the Earth realm warriors didn't rescue them. The Elders didn't do nothing because they knew that the forces of edenia and earth realms would be victorious. If the Elders have actually fought back they would have gained victory.

As for how many gods? It depends on what you mean. The Elder Gods are different from the Elemental Gods. The 4 Elemental Gods are servanst of Rayden who appointed them to guard Shinnok's amulet. How many Elder Gods are there? Definitely 3, after seeing MK3 game ending

what do you mean after seing the mk3 game? but anyways i think that the dragon king is a threat to all elder gods and some might hae to make an appearance in the game and others may betray the elder gods only because the fear they have of teh dragon king..............

What I meant was this. When you play MK3 and you go to the largest row of fighters and play it on difficulty they show the Elder Gods.

To whoever said the Elder Gods act like the UN. Interesting perspective, but the UN actually fix problems. The Elders just laugh at them.

I think the Elder Gods are hiding something. Something above them. They're using all these excuses just to focus on blocking out the rank about them, while deceiving the underlings. Anywhere from Raiden, down to Little Janie Elizabeth Christophers, that was just delivered at Phillips Hospital in Lala Land. I dunno just a thought.

It would be an interesting twist if the Dragon King persuaded one (or a few) elder gods to betray the rest for whatever reason... fitting into this whole deception thing... The way I see it the DK is supposed to be the greatest evil known and now he is back, so I guess he could pull a few strings.

How about there is a huge split in heaven over the upcomming struggle down below between all the mortals, which results in two seperate sides of Gods.

One in support of good and one in support of the dragon king.Basically there could be full on war up in the skys, with hundreds of angels and Gods going at it.This would be the reason why raiden isnt involved in mk:deception.

As the war is taking place in the after life, you could have liu kang as one of the champions of the Good army and the Gods of opposing side could bring back a really pissed off Shao kahn[Who would obviously see this as a chance to come back to life some how].So yeah, loads of dead characters would be here[Goro, cage, older sub zero etc]

Basically on one side you would have all the noble Gods like raiden and on the other side you would have Gods of pestulance, suffering, death[basically all the scummy evil bastardos].

This could be Mk7 ..and mk:deception would b the battle of the mortals[with dragon king etc]..And mk8 would tie everythin together revealing some1 pulling the strings to the whole show.HOW ABout satan heh...i duno...some1 badass tho

I think the Elder Gods are afraid, or weak. If they are as powerful as they should be, then they could just elimnate any threat to Earth. They could've just killed Kahn and any other potential threats.

I think that they're the deceivers. The MK tournament and the prize of Eartha re all a lure maybe to unearth potential threats on both good and evil sides. The tournament is basically a basis for their enemies to eliminate each other, whilst they sit back, act lazy, and dish out rules.

When the time is right, probably when the greatest threats are gone, they'll strike. The only thing is, for what and why?
