Jade has been updated! she is now wearing her MKD outfit in the jail, while she had the UMK one first... is this another clue that jailed characters are playable? It does sound promising...

YEah, man, we know.

It's led us to speculate too. Oh, and also....consider this. Cyrax was in the background of the desert in MK3, but he was still selectable.
Yeah this means nothing.

They busted into her appartment while she was flushing 88 K of cocaine down the toilet...

BTW, Stryker was exposing himself to minors.. so he doesn't get out

Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't mean anything, because it does.

If she's playable in Deception, was wearing her old UMK3 outfit in an old picture, and now she is wearing her Deception outfit, don't take it for granted. I have high hopes that ALL the characters in the jail cells will be selectable, and I don't see why not. If they make 3D models for the characters, there would be no reason NOT to use them. Besides, they are trying to bring back ALL the old nostalgic characters. I'm sorry to tell you Stryker haters, but he IS a classic just like the rest of them. I was surprised by Jade, so Stryker wouldn't surprise me at this point. And, being that Tanya is the only MK4 character returning, I wouldn't be surprised to see Reiko, Jarek, or Fujin unlockable.

If you view the source on the official webpage (thanks Wanderer) you will see a list of 26 character names. Jade is in there, but none of the rest that are locked up are. What does this mean? IMO, it most likely means that the rest of them are in the "extremely" hidden characters section, and not on the main select screen when you first boot the game up. If you subtract the DK and either Liu Kang, Onaga, or Havik (whom I think is Skab) as a Sub-Boss from that list, that leaves you with 24 characters. We were told that there would be 24 playables, but that there are many more hidden ones unlockable in Konquest mode. Boon & CO have already said there will be more than 30 on more than one occasion, and a magazine was quoted to say there will be a "torrent" of hidden characters.

I believe once we get a better picture of the jail cells, we will see Sektor locked up as well, and it will all make sense. Besides, we hadn't seen Stryker until a couple days ago when the official trailer was released, so why can't there be more we have yet to see? If I count right, we have seen 8 characters in cells. There should be at least 10 in cells just by looking at the pictures I've seen.

Besides, who are the other 7 or more hidden characters going to be, if they're not ALL the people in the jail cells? It doesn't leave many old characters left.

This is just my opinion, but I am behind it strongly. It makes perfect sense. This is going to be a Mortal Kombat Trilogy of it's time with all the stuff that is in there already, 1-2 death traps per level, stage weapons, 30+ characters, at least 2 fatalities (I think there will be 3) per character, Hari Kari's, Extra modes and Online play? I cannot wait for this game. Oh yeah, and I think it's pretty sweet that Liu Kang was in the list from the source on the website, even though it was known before that he was returning.

The trouble is that theoretically, every single character who has ever appeared in MK has been rendered for Konquest. This unfortunately doesn't mean they will be playable and a large percentage of them probably will not.

Good call B.

Anyone notice that in the trailer that Hsu Hao is in the prison as well? Now, the thing that gets me is that he is in the cell that Fujin is supposed to be in. I will give it a second look and let you know what I think.

Yes, I will post a pic of this later as well, when I have time.

A thought occurs to me. We've seen lots of people in the cells and they seem to be different people a lot of the time...could the people in the cells be random characters from Konquest?

This is a possibility... One, day, you will see Fujin in a cell, and the next day, you will see maybe Kung Lao or Sonya in the same cell...

Exactly what I am thinking. Perhaps it has something to do with the whole timing feature Boon referred to in his walkthrough? It could, potentially, extend beyond Konquest, you know.

Maybe it would be sweet if you go to the prison stage on a specific time a jailcell would open and you can fight a secret caracter that is not selectable

Good point, man. I was told that Fujin could be playable in this game so that would make a second chaarcter from the Prison playable.

Other characters that are in there like Drahmin and Kitana should be playable given their MKDA stories and I think they or some mix of them will be playable and unlocking at some point. I know Kitana is supposed to be kidnapped, but if anything happens to her, this would be a great time to have her playable for her fans.

Hate to burst your bubble, but just because there are 3D models in existance doesn't mean they're suitable to use in the game. Seeing as those characters are only in the background, they'll have ALOT less detail than the actual playable characters... just like all characters in Konquest and Chess Kombat have alot less detail; When there's 20 characters on the screen as opposed to 2, you simply can't have the same kind of detail in each character. So even if they COULD use those models, they'd look pretty damn crappy when next to the models that are actually created for playable characters. By your logic, they would be able to include everyone from MKG and MKDA, because "they already have 3D models", but it simply doesn't work that way. The models need to conform to the game's demands, such as animations and fatalities - you couldn't stick in a model from MKDA, because they're not created with the ability to lose arms or legs in mind.

that is true, they hade to make everyone in 3D because of their appearence in konquest, i think that some of the more detailed characters in conquest will be the ones that are playable.

if look at reptile in conquest, its really not so much of a detailed model. so can say he won't be playable.

Bezou does make a good point.

So, your all telling me that just because ALL of the characters ever have been rendered for Konquest, means that none of the characters in the jail cells are unlockable?

It would be just plain STUPID of Boon to make a level called the Dark Prison, place old characters from previous MK games in the cells just so they are not unlockable? C'mon, think here.

So, it isn't possible then, that some characters have more details than other? That not necessarily ALL of the characters in the Dark Prison are unlockable, but alot of them are?

If none of the characters in that level are unlockable, I will be pissed off. That is just stupid to do that and not make them unlockable. But I won't be mad, because that is what is going to happen.
