We all remember that in the end of MK 4/MK G, Raiden "retired", and became an Elder God, giving his place of protector of Earthrealm to Fujin...
If so, why the fuck did Raiden have to come back in MK DA to lead the Earth warriors to fight the deadly alliance?
I mean, if it was a threat to the world, why wasn't Fujin (the supposed protector of Earth) in the game, leading the earth warriors instead of Raiden?

the ending where he retired is most likely non-canon.

I think Raiden has too many non-canon endings.

Fujin was and still is Earthrealm's sworn protector. The problem comes with the Deadly Alliance not being a direct danger to Earthrealm itself...yet. That is the reason why Fujin could not step in. However, if allowed to fully revive the Dragon King's army and gain full control over Shinnok's medallion they would have been too powerful to defend against when they did become a threat to Earth (or any realm).

Raiden could see this, but the other Elder Gods refused to do anything about it. This is the reason why Raiden came back and lead Earth's warriors (with an Edenian and former Outworlder thrown in) into Outworld to take care of the sorcerers before they got too strong to defeat. The fight did not take place on Earth so Fujin could do nothing about it. The same for MK: Deception (although he was suppose to be in that game, but Dark Raiden showed up instead). Most of the fighting took place in Outworld and unless I'm mistake none took place on Earth, so once again Fujin can not jump in. However, in MK: A much of the trouble took place on Earth so he could do something about it as Sworn Protector.

Actually it does since the protector of earthrealm can't get involved directly like ladyraiden said.

BTW, nicely said lady. grin

Since they are pointed as protectors of Realms... and since they exist since the creation of the universe... and since they are not shinto deities, but americanized supernatural entities.

Fujin and Raiden aren't really Shinto Gods in MK. They're powers and names are based off of Shinto Gods, but they look like Buddhist ones. And Raiden reforming into Dark Raiden proved that they're immortal to some degree. Am I wrong?

It has been hinted in the MK games but not said outright that Fujin, Raiden, and the other gods are immortal. (Actually they call the Mortal Kombat champion immortal but that didn't save old Liu Kang.) However, this does not exactly mean eternal. There is a difference. Being immortal just means they are harder to destroy/kill than a mortal and if killed it is most likely they will return or 'reformed' on their home realm.

Raiden and Fujin are often referred to as gods of Earthrealm there is no mention of what religion they are worshipped in. The only one is that Raiden often works with the Shaolin order of the White Lotus. True the names are Shinto, but there is a chance that they could be called many names depending on the local populations. For example Raiden could be also called Zues, Jupitor, Thor, etc. However, with modern times and communications he starts introducting himself with the name he perfers-Raiden. As for the difference in myths of the different names...how much of Raiden's or any god's true history do we actually know? Like today what we don't know, humans make up until someone finds out the actual 'facts'.
