It was the best of the 3-D games last generation. Well to me at least.
Out of the 3-D games last gen, Deadly Alliance had the BEST controls of three games. Anyone who has played Deadly Alliance and Deception can tell there is a huge differents between the two even though they share the same game play mechanics.

As a fighting game I liked it felt that was an arcade game with expanded options. I play Deadly Alliance only on "very hard" and can beat the AI with ease, with no losses. The point is that it takes around 15 minutes to beat it, just like the MK1-MK4’s arcade mode. Konquest was a nice touch, that didn't go overboard like Deception and Armegeddon's konquest. For the first Mortal Kombat NOT to have any revisions, it handled pretty well.

I am surprised and sadden as a MK fan when people say that like Deception over Deadly Alliance. If a person were too really get down to both games and compare and contrast the two, Deception only really offers the fluff(2 fatalities, deathtraps) the MK is known for combine with pointless mini games. I don’t care about lame versions of a GTA like free roam in a fighting game. Your playing the wrong game if you want something like that in a Mortal Kombat game.

Mortal Kombat Deception didn't improve on Deadly Alliance's gameplay in ONE single way. The only thing the MK team did was add that useless three bar indicator, and add breaker. That with the clunky controls made it to me the worst main MK game ever.

Overall ,the main reason I love Deadly Alliance was because it was the relaunch of the series. Deadly Alliance was the Mortal Kombat 1 of the next gen. Deadly Alliance did a great job at setting up the storyline for the next big threat and had pretty fun gameplay. Both were very basic in gameplay, but were somewhat fun. I find it sickening that people compare Deception to Mortal Kombat 2. This is coming from a guy that finds Mortal Kombat 2 over rated , but still good.

Deadly Alliance set the standard on how Mortal Kombat should have been last gen. Sadly I was very disappointed that Deception didn't come close to Deadly Alliance greatness as a fighting game. Armageddon came close, but I felt the "cut and paste" fighting moves for characters didn't give it a original feel for the game.

The only things I dislike about Deadly Alliance are....

1. No offensive gameplay. It plays like MK1 and MK 2, which are slow as hell. The MK3 series solved MK's offensive gameplay problem. MK3 is the fastest / best of the 2-D games, to me.

2. Confusing move sets - In the 2-D games down+up was a uppercut for every character. In Deadly Alliance down+ attack 2 did dozens of different things when it came to characters. It made it harder to learn a character.

Awesome, my favorite 3D MK. It had a kickass story that started off with a bang, and it had a great roster. The krypt added serious replay value, and the combat got me into the genre.

My one complaint about the game is the combat. Let me just say it isn't bad, and it isn't as slow as everybody says. But I do have my share of problems with it.
1. No throw button. This really makes it hard to stop turtling computers, and it was a welcomed addition to MKD.
2. No breakers. It really screwed things up getting stuck in a big combo.
3. Reversals where a big advantage.
4. On top of memorizing long combos they add two more fighting styles. After that I learned one is enough.

One thing I don't understand is the complaint about speed. It may not be the fastest game, but it isn't really slow. I think the problem was that there wasn't as much jump kicks and air combos to help add to the speed, but when I would get into a back and forth exchange with the cp it seemed very fast. Sometimes it reminded me of a kung fu movie where two fighters are constantly doing fancy blocks followed by fancy strike combos.

Overall, the best 3D MK to me. By the time it got to MKD I was pleased with the gameplay, but they screwed themselves with the crappy roster and the bad story. MKA was decent, but at that point the fighting engine felt like I was beating a dead horse. The cracks began to show, and the improvements added little to make it better.

It was okay.
I liked it because it was the last MK game where Scorpion actually looks like a Ninja and not a Samurai with tight pants. And his flaming skull alternate is beast.
Kitana Kata.
The ending credits music was awesome and fit well with Kenshi doing his Kata.

I like it way more than Deception because the game doesn't force you to stop when you're wailing on someone with a combo. Where in Deception, the game will freeze you and make your opponent backflip in the air and hit the ground and get up, and then the fight resumes. The fuck? That alone was the main reason why I hated Deception.

MKDA was amazing!
Saddly the my first year of MKDA was the gameboy advance version because i did not have a game cube at the time. But when i got my hands on on the acctual game, my mind was blown. 3DMK players will always sight MKD as the best, witch i agree with, but never forget that the MKD engin was based on MKDA. What a great game.

I think FROST4584 is 100% right on this one.

Deadly Alliance was unbelievably good. The worst thing about the PS2-era is that each game got worse as a FIGHTING game.

Overall I think that Deception is a better game (or perhaps a "better package"). The game had more characters, interactive arenas, an awesome story mode (Deception Konquest is friggin' bad ass), more Fatalities, fun mini-games (Puzzle/Chess Kombat), and death traps... just off the top of my head.

But it also had sloppy gameplay compared to Deadly Alliance. Yeah Deadly Alliance only had one Fatality per character (most of which were super-lame as well), no stage Fatalities, and no interactivity with the backgrounds, but it had a super tight feel to the game play. As a fighting game Deadly Alliance just plays better.

Still Deception had enough content to make it my favorite of the PS2/Xbox games but, going strictly by the arcade mode Deadly Alliance was the better game.

It's insane how much MK regressed with the PS2 games. They started out with a surprise smash hit with Deadly Alliance, was still pretty good with Deception, and went out with a whimper with Armageddon. The game play got worse with each game.

I bought them all and I had countless months of fun with each one but that's just how it was. My absolute favorite thing about the PS2/Xbox-era Mortal Kombat games was the attention of detail the arenas got. You'd be hard pressed to find a single bad/boring arena in any of those games. It was the first time in MK where I thought the backgrounds were more memorable than the actual fighting cast.

I know most people prefer the 2D games to the 3D ones (and for the most part I agree) but I have to admit I miss roaming around the arenas in MK9.

I think it was good. It was different from other fighters with the whole three styles thing. The fighting needed more upgrades though than it got wit deception and Armageddon. To me deadly alliance is the best 3d fighting gameplay wise mk game.

Probably my fav fighting game of the 3d era, all games involved. I liked MKD but guess they got rid of a lot after DA that made the gameplay and challenges interesting. Story was cool, design was beautiful for the most of the game. Many new characters were awesome.

Old thread? Tell me if bumping them matters.
