I don't like him because he's very very unoriginal. His looks are taken from movies, and all of his moves are taken from other characters. His voice and even his name are annoying. He's pretty much just everyone's bitch.

I don't dislike Shujinko as a playable character. It was in Konquest I really started to dislike him. He's an idiot. Just listen to his dialog. Great playable character though, weak in terms of storylines.

He has the worst story ever in Mortal Kombat history, he looks pretty fagotized, he STOLE our favorite characters attacks!

Gameplay wise he is pretty awesome. Perfect Hybrid of destruction.
Storywise, they are right. He has possibly the worst story line of any mortal kombat character I've seen. He's just a filler character for konquest, really.

I didn't like him at first. After you get to use him though I started to like him. Probably though just because he is riping off Kung Lao. I actualy like his basic outfit. In the end I like him better than any of the other new characters. Though thats not really saying much at all since I more or less hate all the others. While I like him I could see why someone wouldn't.

Shujinko is one hell of a character. Yeah, he's story wasa not the best of Boons -or whoevers-ideas, but compared to the characters in MK trilogy and MK3 Stryker, Nightwolf he is far above than anything else.

I don't really like him either, they stole Pai Mei's look and for his ALT the stole another Old Kung Fu guys look. His sword is powerful but him as an overall character sucks. But I do like his ending.

Pretty much what the majority thinks. He stole better characters moves. They just look dumb on him he could at least have had his own moves. Moves are a particular characters trademark and Shujinko doesnt have his own trademark therefore he is bland and unoriginal.
He also looks like guy out of Kill Bill vol. 2, although that may not be intentional... and he has Kung Laos fighting styles, so even if he fights well while playing, you could also play Kung Lao just as well and I just think he borrows too much from better people and characters so that is why he is an absolute terrible character that should be dumped forever.

It takes a lot to make me hate a character. I can put up with a lot of things. Good gameplay can make up for a weak story. Poor gameplay can be somewhat redeemed by an at least decent story. And even if a character is garbage to use and has a lame story, worst I'd say is I dislike them. But Shujinko has that extra something that makes me just hate him.
1) I do like using Shujinko's fighting styles......but I liked them better when they were Kung Lao's. Now, Ashrah has one of Kitana's styles, Kira has Kano and Sonya's styles, Havik has Shang Tsung and Quan Chi's styles...I can tolerate that. No big deal, there are only so many fighting styles that can be put into the game. But Shujinko has BOTH of Kung Lao's styles. Lame.
2) No original special moves. I can tolerate recycled moves. Ashrah had Kung Lao's spinning move, Kenshi has Ermac's teleport slam, Frost had some freezing moves...but Shujinko isn't copying other people's moves. He's just flat out ripping them off. Not to mention this makes him very cheap.
3) He gets his power by stealing the power of other characters. So he's possibly the strongest character in the game. This just pisses me off.
These things irritate me. But now we get into the things that just piss me off about Shujinko:
4) Shujinko is that he's introduced to us as the new "hero." Now, I think if they're going to replace Liu Kang as the "hero" with anyone it should be a character we already know who actually earned it. Someone like Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Scorpion, or hell even Ermac. It shouldn't be some dipshit who just pops up out of nowhere.
5) Another thing that pisses me off, and this is a big one: they don't fit Shujinko into the storyline. The make the storyline fit to him. They rearrange things, contradict other things and this is what really gets me: they tear down other characters to build him up. They build up Shujinko's story and character by making Sindel look like a fool, Shao Kahn look like an ass, and Scorpion look like an idiot.
I take it as a sign of a weak character when the only way a new character comes across as acceptable is by tearing down others. How do they make Shujinko look cunning? By making an ass out of Raiden, Mileena, Baraka, and others. He doesn't even cleverly manipulate them like Quan Chi would. He just makes asses out of them. How do they make Shujinko look heroic? By turning Sindel into an idiotic damsel in distress. How do they make Shujinko look strong? By pissing on Scorpion's new storyline. The only reason I'm supposed to take Shujinko seriously is because he made jackasses out characters that I like? Fuck Shujinko.
Individually, all these things piss me off, but I could probably get over them and at least somewhat respect a character. Shujinko, however, covers all bases at once. But what really killed Shujinko for me:
6) When I saw Shujinko for the first time, he looked like a "wise old man" type of character which is cool. I read his story and he sounded like an interesting heroic character with a dark edge to him.
But I play Konquest and he turns out to be a blander, more annoying, gullible, whiney, and even duller version of Liu Kang. If I wanted a typical "hero" I would stick with Liu Kang. I don't feel sorry for Shujinko. I don't find him tragic at all. Mileena is tragic. Scorpion is tragic. Kitana is tragic. Noob Saibot is tragic. Shujinko is a weak willed imbecile and anything that happened to him is his own dumb-assed fault. The worst is how he was imprisoned by Hotaru. Shujinko...get a fucking clue.
Simply put: I find Shujinko to be an unlikable rip-off dipshit. He was a good idea that got terribly botched and I really have no interest in seeing him get a second chance in a future game. I'd rather see Stryker get a second chance than Shujinko.
Now, this is all just my opinion, but frankly, I hope Raiden fries his sorry ass.

How is it Shujinko is ripping off other fighters moves when he was giving the ability to use some of their specials by Onaga? By then, I didn't see people complaining. It's now, 1 month later , users are blasting him.
Hell, even before the game was released, Boon displayed him in a Press Conference and mentioned he would have those abilities, and all of you n00bs were praising him: "w00t! a fighter with evryone moves!!11 now I can pwn all of u online".
Very sad...

The question is, how could Midway redeem Shujinko?

i think shujinko is a geat player. he is just like kung lao but thats godd because i played with kung lao. he doesen't have the best story but who cares. he is fun to play with and have some real combo possibilities

I don't think Midway need to redeem Shujinko - as far as I'm aware he's really just a plot device for this game only. Yes, Boon says (in the game) that he's the next generation Liu Kang, but that position is rather pointless now that !
By the way, has anyone else noticed how all the 'learned' special moves for Shujinko count as 2 hits if used in a combo, where they wouldn't normally when used by their usual character? Scorpion's harpoon followed by Raiden's torpedo = 4 hits!

Why didnt they just use the young Kung-Lao instead for konquest?

i know why people dont like shujinko because he has a lot of moves and long combos and its kinda hard to remember them all and second de has so many trick in his sleeves that kicks everybodys butt ,and stop whining about notoriginal and stolen moves, what is so original in scorpions moves or sub-zero since they came up in mk 1 up until now same special just a little moddified, before i was a scorpions player but now im with shujinko that is a great character ,powerfull ,at least shujinko has everything i need to defeat somebody easy, its hard to guess what trick is gonna do next and about his story thats good story, why do you think its called DECEPTION ?
why didnt damashi(onaga) came to shujinko when he was an adult?
because its more easy to fool a kid and brainwash to full it up with his crap about kamidogu and save the earthrealm!
shujinko since a kid he was ambitious and wanted to become a great warrior and damashi(onaga ) knew this and used him for his dirty things!

I have never like Shujinko's use of other player abilities. Using other abilities regardless of how they are obtained is a cop out, IMO, from the dev team. The could have made it possible for the konquest story to work without the lack of imagination when it came to his abilities.
His appearance, Outfit 1, is pretty kool, it reminds me of a classic kung fu flick. It just doesn't make up for the crudeness of his abilities.

OK, so basicaly his looks all alright, becouse considering how many of the characters in the MK games are ripoffs (but very good ripoffs) at some point. Kang equals Bruce Lee, Cage equals van Damme, Shang Tsung equals a classic kung fu movie evildoer with his long nails and mustache.
Why should be Shujinko so drastically different and original?
Anyway, his concept is like mirrorring the opponents moves. Unless the special is mystical enough to be copied, I have no problem with it. When it comes to the spear, well, how in the hell could he do that without having a spear exactly like Scorpion?
I realy wish to see him return with refined (martial and special) arts like Pak Mei and copying the opponents style. The weapons can stay.

Like many of the new characters in Deception , he has no style.

i dont hate him in Deception cuz he is good gameplay wise weither u like he copies or not. atleast he has a reason y he can and does unlike some body... (Smoke in MK3) and well his story i think is good actually and funny as hell finding out how much a dumbass he is. lol. but i dont like him and hope to never see him back (and probably wont till next MKT like MK) cuz of him gameplay wise. he has both of Kung Lao's unarmed fighting styles from MKDA (so id figure all u big Kung Lao fans would love Shujinko) and ya they r good styles but i dont like Kung Lao. so y would i like Shujinko for having moves taht Kung Lao has in MKDA? plus i dont like Shujinko's weapon really. and him having all those speical moves just seems nothing but hella cheap and dont seem right useing them as him. his 2nd fatality i think is good but his 1st one and his Hara-Kiri i dont really like. o and i like his alt.
overall i really dislike him but i cant say i hate him cuz he doesnt suck gameplay wise. so lets say on a scale of 1-5 id rate Shujinko a 2/5.
