Out of the 7 main MK games... Which one had the best story?

MK1 - With the use of the powerful half human/half dragon Goro, Shang Tsung approached winning over Earthrealm to the control of Outworld. This was the tenth tournament, out of nine which Earth lost, which would determine the fate of humanity. Liu Kang won the tournament and saved Earth.

MK2 - Shang Tsung convinced his emporer, Shao Kahn, to spare his life for his recent failure, and to set another tournament... except this time, in Outworld, where the fighters will have to face the emporer himself. Shao Kahn agreed to this plan and another tournament was set out. And again, Outworld lost.

MK3 - Shao Kahn refused to let Earthrealm go free, and so he used an ancient plan that would allow him to directly seize Earthrealm instead. With Shang Tsung's assistance, he resurrected his long-dead Outworld queen, Sindel, on the Earthrealm itself. This allowed him to step through the portals to reclaim her, and invade the world along the way. Once Sindel was turned from evil to good, his strength on Earth was weakened and the Earth warriors defeated him again.

MK4 - A fallen Elder God, Shinnok, had escaped from his confinement in the Netherrealm with the help of Quan Chi. Together, they killed many gods except for Raiden and Fujin. Now an ancient war has restarted, except now, mortal warriors were able to fight in it. Shinnok is then defeated by them.

MK: Deadly Alliance - After escaping from the Netherrealm, Quan Chi comes across information about the first ruler of Outworld, Onaga, and his undefeatable army. He forms an alliance with Shang Tsung and together they plan to take over the realms. Before they start, though, they kill the 2 people who could stand in their way, Liu Kang and Shao Kahn. Afterward, they hold a tournament in Outworld where the souls of dead warriors are used to gradually resurrect Onaga's dead army, while a prophecy of Onaga's return begins to unfold. They slay all the Earth warriors who opposed them.

MK: Deception - Before MK1, Shujinko began gathering 6 kamidogu for a spirit named Damashi. Once he had gathered them all, Damahi revealed himself to be the resurrected Onaga. Onaga takes the kamidogu, interrupts a battle between Raiden, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi, and captures Quan Chi's amulet. He then begins searching for information on how to fuse all the objects together to fuse the realms into one under his power. Shujinko defeats him, however, and he is then confined in the Netherrealm.

MK: Armageddon - The kombatants were growing to numerous and too powerful, so the Elder Gods created a being, Blaze, to kill as many warriors as possible in order to save the realms from destruction. The half human/half God Taven defeats Blaze, saves the realms, and becomes a full god.

I personally think Deadly Alliance had the best story. I mean it was amazing, fresh, and interesting. The prophecies and conspiracies helped make it awesome.

MK3 had the next best. It was a neat twist from the typical tournament stories and it also dealt with conspiracies and interesting ancient stuff. Plus the bride was awesome.

After that, I'd say Deception. Also interesting, plus unique. I like the ironic twist of how Onaga's "gift" to Shujinko of being able to gain skills from other warriors is what led to Onaga's fall. What an idiot. Lol.

The Dragon King's army and Sindel have been the coolest tools evil ones have used to attemp conquering the realms, imo.

Well, MK1 imo. The tournament, the ancient setting. It started it all. Although, MK2 is right beside it.

Even though they are not my favorite MK games. MK Mythologies is my favorite.

Gotta agree with raisncain. MK1 started it all. MK II was a good followup. Didn't really like MK3s.

I thought MK2 and MK3's were awesome, MK4 also had some elements that were unique.

MK:D's was ok, MK:A's I like because it brings everyone ever in MK to fight together against each other.

Overall though, it's tough to say I like the whole storyline personally.
I would have to say the original Mortal Kombat's story was and still is my favorite. The whole storyline is awesome, but the original's just really stands out for me.

Agreed. MK1's storyline is without a doubt the best as it is not only the first, but it also paved the way for the future MK storyline. Next best for me is MK3. I love the "extermination squad hunting the Earthrealm warriors down" storyline.

The "start of the series" doesn't make it the best.

Everyone here is entitled to their own opinions, but MK1 has, imo, the most flat and linear storyline of all MK games.

I'm surprised most people aren't saying Deadly Alliance was the best since that had the deepest and most elaborate story.

Oh well.

MKDA was awesome, don't get me wrong. So was MKD (story). But, I liked MK1 for one reason: The MK Tournament.

Simplicity is sometimes the best route for telling a story. Yeah, MK1-2 for me.

I agree with RaisnCain on this one. I loved the first MK1 storyline because of the MK tournament.

I'm actually going to agree with QS on this one. I think MKDA had the best story. I liked the alliance of the two sorcerers and how they were able to take down Liu Kang and Shao Kahn (even though they killed Shao Kahn's clone in actuality) and pose as a great threat. I especially liked that Liu Kang was killed as that has a strong impact when it comes to the heroes themselves. In the past, Liu Kang was the main man to help lead them through the battles against the forces of evil. But with him gone, they have to do what they can without him. I especially liked how we learn in MKD's intro that the Deadly Alliance was successful in defeating the heroes, which really make them formidable.

Deadly Alliance also had a tournament story in it, on top of compelling twists and plot points.

Kingjolly, Simplicity is the best route sometimes, but I personally find MK1's storyline rather flat.

MK2 had pretty much the same tournament storyline except it had more depth and interesting arcs.

Excellent thread QS(TB)! You are really making some great topics. Good job! grin

The Best:

No doubt MKDA. I felt so happy, so incredibly pleased with this beautiful work. MKDA has the most elaborated, greatly developed and deepest storyline of all the games. Its fantastic, its simply amazing!!!

The Worst:

There isn’t really a “worst” story because all are good, but (if there weren’t any bios it would had been MKA) the worst for me is MK2. It’s the new revelations of MK3 that make Mk2 interesting (Sindel, Kahn, the trick, etc), but the story of a new “fake tournament” to trick the heroes in so little time after their victory feels really linear and simple, too simple, at least for me.

In order:

1.- MKDA: 10/10
2.- MK1: 9.5/10
3.- MKD: 9.5/10
4.- MK3: 9.5/10
5.- MK4: 8/10
6.- MKA: 7/10 (so far, but if we get all the bios it can go to be 9)
7.- MK2: 5/10

Hmmmm....

I really like the idea of using someone to gain power or over power this realm or that person. I like the MKDa story the best, it was the most creative, and MK3 was also great, because it was a clever idea to finding a loophole through Shao Kahn's restrictment of Earthrealm admission.

I agree. MKDA appeals to me the most.

I like Mortal Kombat DA and Mortal Kombat 3 the most.

MK DA's because of it's twist and the decision made. Like killing Lui Kang. I have no hate for Lui Kang but his death was an interesting route as as well as all the Good guys ultimatly loseing but I guess that part would go under Mortal Kombat Deceptions story.

And MK3's for Shao Kahn coming into earth and taking te sould of all the humans (and maybe animals too) on earth. I don't know. I just find that to be an interesting route.

-MK1 ofcourse

-MK 2; Great sequel...more depth and explanation

-MK4; Took it to another level, exploited the elder gods part wich I like.

the less good stories;

-MK 3 .. had some nice elements, but still too much relaying on MK 2's story. The grow in depth stagnated.

- MK; DA; Tsung and Quan Chi alliance was a good idea, however the dragon king idea was less interesting.

- MK;D ; See above, also the story started to get blurry.

Regarding to my last point, lookin at the summaries you will see that MK1,2 and 4 had pretty simple stories and still very interesting.

Its curious because I found Onaga and the whole “dragon king” story and his undefeatable army much more interesting in MKDA.

I liked him more like an egg in MKDA.

MKD took away some magical elements that MKDA delivered very nicely.

I think I liked MK II's the best. The introduction of Shao Kahn. The revelation that the seeming puppeteer, Shang Tsung is merely a pawn in a greater evil's scheme. Shang's restoration of his youth. The loophole that says the losing realm has a right to immediately challenge the winning realm to a rematch, thereby allowing Kahn to hold a second, more sinister tournament. The methods Kahn used to bring the Earth warriors to him(Sending Kintaro and Baraka to kil the Shaolin monks).

Just everthing seemed so perfect about MK II's plot, imo.
