huh....you guys got that much out of it. I got that it's one of ign's most anticipated fighters for 08 but they're not entirely sure if it's coming out this year.

i think alot of fans are gonna be very dissapointed when they find out that their fav mk character will not be in the next mk..........

If it doesn't have any MK characters like the article said it's not MK. Every single game that has ever came out with a sequel has had the main characters in it. MK has had different char. in it through the years, but has recycled the same char. If nobody returns it's not a sequel. Logic. Whether or not it is what we expected has no relevence to a sequel or not.

This isn't exactly new news cause I remember Ed saying the new game would bring a brand new story.So I figured it would settle on brand new characters even though the stories in the past mk games were not finished yet.It could be good or completely bad for them to go this direction,we just don't know yet.Is this a sequel?Hell no,or atleast if the other characters aren't returning then no and this game almost probably has nothing to do with the other games before it.But you know lets wait and see what they give us or show us before the game is out and go from there.Just isn't looking good from this article if you wanted people to return.

This logic isn't logic. MK isn't certain characters, MK is a style of game, it's a style of story, and a completely new MK can be more MK and better than some secuels.

Game based after the last one = Sequel.

Logic hunh? Mortal Kombat started as a result of certain characters (mortals) kombating certain other characters for the freedom of their realm. Am I mistaken--Shinomune--? I think not. So any game is based on thier characters, Tekken, Soul Calibur, DoA,etc..They make new and cut off certain char. throughout the story, but it's about the Earlthrealm characters fighting off the tyranny of the Outworld warriors.
So you could put the cast of the Mario series in the story and it will be thought of as a MK game and not a Mario game?

Wow, IGN is really, really out of the loop lol. They didn't even list the fact that they're using the UR engine... lol, the rest we have all known for months and the UR news was stated months ago lol.

There is no answer to your question becuase what you are basically saying is that they are putting in characters from other games into MK.Since MK8 is going to have a completely new roster with maybe a few MK favs who says that the new chars. won't be mortals.The point of MK is that some Earthrealm warriors are chosen to defend their realm in a tournament.

That's what I'm saying, you said it--a few favs return. And for the other guys arguement he stated that it's not the char. That's why I asked if the Mario cast were put in would it be MK or Mario

Let me elaborate...
What I mean is the Fan Favorites.The people who don't really have a storyline ,but they look cool.Soon the character within the Fan favs will fade away and poof they're gone just like that.Who knows if they might even return.It's all up to Boon.Besides,the signatures of Mortal Kombat are not within the chars., it's within the fatalities.

READ before you quote my past posts. I concede, I see your point of view now. It took me awhile to get my head around a totally new MK w/o my favs. I was hugely dissapointed with MKA, and I really wanted a mix of MKDA and MKD.

Well whatever. As long the character roster doesn't turn out to be the shit that MK4 was, I'll be content.

Obviously will be Mario in MK Universe. But isn't the same if the chars are completely new ones. Maybe the past fighters (classic & reborn generation) could detain the Armageddon, but the majority died. And many years later, will appear another menace to the realms, and one of these warriors is the son or grandson of a past fighter, or a warrior with the Sub-Zero or Frost code-name, etc...

MK Universe + Non-Crossover Characters = Legit Sequel.

But don't worry, surely at least we will return to have "classic" Scorpion or Sub-Zero, though a roster to SFIII would perform the best thing that might happen, because though the MKDA is the best game of the saga for me, if you do one 50/50 you traverse the risk of then not knowing this where the north, and will end with another Armageddon...

If the game takes place after Armageddon, and is intended to be the next installment in the series, then it is a sequel, regardless of whether or not older characters return.

A mortal is anyone who can be killed. As long as there are any characters who can be killed, it will fit the Mortal Kombat quota.

Also, I didn't interpret it as "all new," anyway. I read it as a slightly exaggerated version of what we've heard along. Only a handful of characters will be kept, and the rest will be new.
