A sequel is not just cause it comes after that game.


For example,
saw 4 came out and really wasn't a sequel to saw 3 cause it was more or less a side story to saw 3.

Just cause MK8 is after MKA does not mean its a sequel to that game.It could have nothing to do with MKA at all which means its not a sequel.Just cause they made it after that doesn't mean thats the sequel or whatever.Was Mortal Kombat Trilogy a sequel to UMK3?No,not really.
MKT and we all know this was just a game they made to add everyone in it so you can play with all the characters against one another.You know it,I know it so there.Yea it had some story but it was not really a sequel.


Here are the true sequels in the MK universe.
MK2,UMK3,MK4,MKDA,MKD,MKA


Oh oh and,MK4 in terms of story in a way was sorta a sequel to MKMSZ considering their stories and connection they had.You can debate that but I consider it to be.

If you want to get more confused about sequels and games go check out the zelda games or Final Fantasy ones.Was FF8 a sequel to FF7,hell no and so on.Other then FFx and FFx2 there were no direct sequels.

The word "mortal" in "Mortal Kombat" does not mean anyway who can be killed. It means causing or leading to death. Hence the brutal killings at the end of each fight in the game.

"Someone who can die combat" does not make sense. "Death-causing combat" DOES. That's what "Mortal Kombat" means.

Yeah, for example, SFIV is between SF2 & SFIII. But if MK8 is placed after the events of MKAr, it's a sequel.

All New Characters + Story After Armageddon = Sequel.

A Lot of Return Characters + Story Before Armageddon = Not Sequel.

Some combination + Story in another universe = Not Sequel.

Btw, the true sequel is MKGold, not MK4

while mkgold was the true sequel i didnt put it there cause it wasnt exactly made for every system and i figured if they met it to be a true sequel it wouldnt have been exclusive for that long anyway.But you are right MKgold is a true sequel over UMK3.

MKG technically wasn't really a sequel or new game, just older/newer characters added for the MK4 so MKG is more of a revision then straight out "new game"

As for MK8 being a sequel or prequel, chances are it'll be a sequel but since we don't know anything yet concerning the storyline, nobody knows for sure. Hell, some people even think it'll have nothing to do with the ending events of MKA or other MK's and just be it's own MK vs. whoever game..

We'll have to wait and see.
