This is not an MK:D hate-off. I like the game and enjoyED playing it, but Boon is a very deceptive business-man and he didn't think the game through entirely or just didn't care. First off, He made everyone believe that there was gonna be SUs and a bunch of cool secrets in the game which is what MK is all about. He made his money and he doesn't care about his game fans. The whole time he just kept saying "You'll have to keep looking". What a Croc! And I don't believe any of the garbage about the game production being crunched for time or that there were changes in the development. He just flat out didn't take his time with this game and didn't want to put the effort into it. The fighting system in the game could have used alot of work too. The damn 50 - 50s and certain unlimited combos, ect. (need I go on?) Boon has taken complete advantage of us and our expectations which he planted in our heads to make a $. If the next MK doesn't turn out 100% better than MK:D he'll never get a purchase from me again. I have very little respect for Boon.
We need stuff like the old Jade and Smoke Secrets ect. Not his stupid find a chest behind a tent at Midnight on Friday. FIX IT BOON!
Anyone else lose respect for him?

I have a ton of respect for the man. To head up a project as huge as this takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
As far as his "lying" is concerned, many things to be taken into account..for example: company deadlines, hardware limitations, system differences, etc.
As far as his not telling you everything..um...DUH??? Ed is NOT going to tell you EVERYTHING about the game..that's NOT being a deceptive businessman, that is being a smart, and rather SANE, businessman. Only a moron would pill the beans about EVERYTHING less than a month that the game has been out.
Ed has taken a franchise thought dead by many, turned it around, added 3d elements to classic gameplay, and incorporated an ammount of secrets that NO OTHER FIGHTER has matched. To take a 2d hit and turn it into a 3d hit along with its classic moves and style is a HARD thing to do, and many, MANY games have failed in doing this. But Ed and his team were successful..twice. The man has my respect.
Not sure why this post is here...but...ok.

I also agree with Skaven cause lets face it, what other 2D fighter has successfully been converted into 3D and still play as good if not better than the 2D counterpart? The answer is none of them, Streetfighter EX was lame, the new KOF maximum impact is better than EX but not on the level of MK, the old Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition blew chunks and so on. This game plays great too despite what people say about the 50/50 mix up. I'll 50/50 you in Streetfighter 3 as well with Ken by dashing in, low poke to either a throw or a dragon punch over and over. Yes I know there is a wake up game in Streetfighter but then again in this game you can simlply roll out of most of those 50/50 mix ups because I always do. 50/50 does not mean success in this game because people develope patterns and become predictable just like in other fighting games.
When they miss their shot you can punish them accordingly, or you can use a breaker to stop an over head to gain some distance and plan your next move. When you think about it, if 50/50 meant success then everyone online would have similar wining streaks and nobody would really be better than the next guy, kind of like playing cards. But that truly is not the case with MK:D, the game does take some skill to win and knowing how to use you characters strengths to you advantage is the key, whether it be a high priority poke or special move. I have played tons of peole and have won many against less to evenly-skilled players but every now and then someone comes in with more skill than I have and wipes the floor with me. My nemisis online now is "Youwillperish". I love playing this guy but it's rare that I beat him. I love what boon and his crew have done to this game and for the first time I can proudly say that I really like a non Japanese devolped fighting game. Nuff said.
Take care

I have respect for him. I mean... he didn't HAVE to make MK Deception, but he did (for the fans and for a profit). So... I'm not quite understanding why your ticked off at a man who made a series you love.... it just... doesn't... make.... sense.
I'll agree that I prefere the old way of unlocking things... or finding things... but do I disrespect Boon? Not at all. He took a chance to see how we felt about jkonquest and chests... now that he knows our reaction, he'll either remove it, fix it, or improve it for the next MK.

Ok personaly, I wasn't a fan of that old school "do some code on character select screen to unlock a secret charact" bullshit. You do realize that the only reason that codes like that were invented is because their earlier system didn't have enough memory to run advanced, FUN, ways to unlock things, such as konquest.
I have tons of repsect for Boon, period.
Here's the perfect advice for you, go buy every gaming system PSX and earlier and buy all your favorite games for it, stop buying games made now, becuase you seem to be a 100% simple and old school gamer.

kaishku great sig
but back on topic i loved mk1 2 3 da and iv got to say i love deception but on a level i understand what your sayin.not trying to flame you but try make a game as good as this

gotta love Boon for making deception...best fighting game I ever played imo, but, I also agree with the "toying with us, sucks" part, that's not fair, it would be better for him just to clam up, and don't say nothing about SU's, I would buy the game nonetheless, with or without SU's, so he wouldn't lose much profit from me, and I think no one buys a game just for the super unlockable things, I mean what's the fun in only playing for that? I'm loving every single bit of this game and I don't care if there are no SU's, but if they exist, great, the more the merrier...

For making this and all the other MK games and listening to the fans. Mucho Respect.
For toying with the people who made him who he is by telling lies to make the game have a better shelf life. No respect.
Still love him. don't agree with his sales tactics.

No no no, not this "developping a video game is HARD" argument again. We don't care if it's hard or not, this is not the point.
1) The guy said that "something" would be in the final product
2) that "something" just isn't there
Now, time constraints, hardware limitations are just bad excuses to cover his ass. This was an intentional move to sell more copies of the game.

If super unlockables alone sold the game, then I wonder how many of you here would have still bought the game had they not been announced...

Now what i find funny is the first sentence in your post is "Now this is not a MK:D hateoff" to which you then rant on about everything you hate about the game
1st off, if you enjoyED ANY single mortal kombat game, you had better have SOME respect for the man because without him there would be NO MK games.
2nd, since you are blatantly unhappy with the damn game, do us a favor; shut the hell up, and trade the game back in for your money.
3rd, do you really think boon feels threatened by your obnoxious remark "I will never purchase from him again" - i bet he is crying himself to sleep right now at the thought of 1 whole person not buying his product (completely ignoring all the christian/hippy parents that refuse to buy/allow their children to buy this "teen school violence-inducing game")
do you really think boon is losing sleep over the thought of 1 bedwetting crybaby boycotting his products? Please. That's the equivalent of 1 person telling bill gates they will never buy a microsoft product ever again, or 1 person telling the Wal-Mart ceo they will never shop their again. You are an insignificant peon, and you need to realize that if you never play or buy a MK game again, nobody will care. Just like voting, you will not make a difference.
And last, since you want to play mr critique, why dont you join the midway team so you can help ensure that there will never be a mortal kombat failure realeased in the future (by bringing boon his coffee and giving him handjobs while he's snorting his coke) or you can just make your own damn game.

That's so sad... really... Why can't you stop sucking boon's balls?
And you had to vomit that dumb "if you're not happy with the game, make one yourself" argument again. MIDWAY are the developpers, not us! If you buy a Mustang but instead your dealer sells you a Sunfire, you're going to be mad if a smartass tells you "Hey, if you're not happy, build your own car!"
Okay, I have respect for Mr. [Ed] Boon. I may not agree with some of his marketing techniques, but with the SU issues. Your angry that he said there would be SU's.
What would you do in his shoes?
Interviewer: So, Boon, are there any super unlockables?
Boon: Nope, zero unlockables.
Wouldn't that just kill the hype a little bit?
Interviewer: So, Boon, are there any super unlockables?
Boon: Yes.
Boon could of said no comment, but what is so bad about this little white lie? Maybe he considers the twelve known hidden characters, super unlockables.

When asked if there would be big secrets in MKD, the right answer would have been "No, but expect a lot of other cool surprises"
Rockstar doesn't have to lie when talking about their GTA games... they just deliver.

the SU's are Raiden and Liu Kang I believe... especially Liu since he isn't even listed or mentioned on the official site. I believe he was a SU. And don't give me that "it was easy to find him, not a SU" stuff. Only the ones who actually found him, by not looking it up on the internet.... have the right to complain. I myself unlocked all the characters, cept for Kang. I used the internet to find where he was at. I doubt I would have foun him. But I still think it's a SU, simply because I know it would have been very hard to find.

Like I said earlier, I really don't care about secrets and unlockables... but still, Raiden and Liu Kang had their space on the select screen right from the beginning... so it doesn't seem so "SUPER" to me.

I agree with both. I havn't found Liu and I've been looking; he is very hard to find if you don't know where... except now I know he's behind a tent somewhere
but then on the other hand, he is on the screen. It could just be good screen design though, because if there was no net, I wouldn't have known the box was his anyway.

I can't understand why the mods would allow a thread like this actually. You wouldn't see a thread like this on any other message board about any other game.
I respect him as a person. Creating videogames isn't all fun and games (yep, a pun), and he's been dedicated to the same game for 10 years.
Seems like a pretty good businessman too.
I don't respect his product these days though.
Very, very flawed, and it comes off as being badly designed, dispite how much effort was put in.

Ok you don't respect his products but you respect the man. So even though you know that the guy his behind the products, everything is fine with the man... he is alright and we should'nt be allowed to say otherwise.

Yes.
You're going to not respect somebody as a person because you don't like their creation? That's art, not liking something somebody creates is art, and anybody who argues that videogames aren't art, is probably drunk, an idiot, or just doesn't know what they're talking about.
You see, just because I don't like his art, doesn't mean he's a bad person.
He gets my respect for staying true to what he's helped create for so long, (even if it is starting to seriously decline in quality by today's standards), and being so successful at it.
Artistically, he's a frontrunner, he does what he wants (largely), and he's good at it. I think most people who do that are worthy of respect.

Um....yes, because it is a good arguement. It happens all the time in videogames. Look at Fable. A lot of stuff promised, and because of time constraints and technology, the final product was not NEARLY what was promised, yet it is still a decent game.
Bad excuses? Those bad excuses happen all the time in all sorts of games, not just Eds lol
I realize you do not like being "lied" to, but time constraints and technology is not a bad arguement...it is a fact of life in the video game industry that happens constantly. Deal with it and move on.
