You Know Who, I'm sure his survival will be explained. MKDA improved by leaps and bounds in the storytelling area, and I don't think that will change with MKD. And I agree with you that the storyline is one of the most important aspects of the game, and that Mavado's storyline was deeper than Kabal's.
However, I disagree with your opinion on Kabal (except that his fatalities sucked). I liked his special moves and his appearence, and just felt he was overall a cool character. So while storyline is important, it's often aesthetics that decides people's favorite characters. Personally, I'm glad to see Kabal back.

Hypocritical. Nah. Kabal's death was only supposed. They even quoted "supposed" in Mavado's conquest because there was no actual proof he died. Does anyone here remember what happened LAST TIME kabal was left for dead? How do you think he even made it into the mk series?
And people, please stop saying story doesn't matter, because it does. And kabal's story was awesome. He was a criminal who had a near death experience, and after he experienced true pain and agony, he decided to devote his life to fighting evil instead of affiliating himself with it. WTF is so deep about Mavado. He works for the Red Dragon. He has beef with the Lin Kuei. There, done.
But I think those on the opposing side of the arguement are handling this a little better than the pro-kabal brigade. But no one is right or wrong. Whether you like Kabal or not is all up to opinion.

Kabal is badass. I'm very happy that he returned.
Mavado was awsome in DA, I hope he returns in Deception.
Both his outfits were cool and he had those cool Kabal swords(even though I never really liked the weapons but his were cool).
And as some have already stated, he has some tie ins to the MK storyline.

To be real honest, I don't even think Movado killed Kabal. Maybe Kabal, badly beating by Movado, gave his weapons and stuff, and his life was spared.. but he had to keep his distance, so nobody would know what Movado did for him.
Ahh... either way, i'm HYPED now that I know Kabal is back.

Just like to point out that Kabal's death may not be 100% certain, read the following that comes straight from Mavado's konquest story and decide for youself:
"Like the Black Dragon thug, Kano, Mavado uses a double-weapon fighting style. It is rumored that Mavado acquired his Hookswords from the former Black Dragon member, Kabal, after a vicious battle. Even though Kabal had only been a
member of the Black Dragon for a short time, Mavado had sworn to eliminate
him."
"Kano had heard of Kabal's apparent demise at the hands of Mavado. He would have killed the Red Dragon warrior had he not been trapped in Outworld all this time."
Even konquest says that it is only rumored-- but perhaps MKD will give further insight about this.

That was a sensible post. Thanks for your wisdom, TUN. I agree with all your factual points, but your opinions I don't (everyone's got their own). I just find it a bit hard to believe that Mavado flogged Kabal, then just took his weapons, vut would let his sworn enemy live? I think they should really pull a rabbit out of the hat for this one.
As far as Mavado's storyline, it is very deep. Mavado is part of a criminal organization that is more ruthless than any in the world today. The Red Dragon probably have some of their members in Parliament or the UN (storyline-wise) and Mavado is one of the most talented of them all. He surfaces after all these years by defeating one of Earthrealm's prized warriors, and takes his prized weapons. He then continues his search for the lesser Black Dragon, who have members wanted for all over the world for crimes all over the world.
Mavado knows many ancient arts, as well as probably being the most patient character in all of Mortal Kombat. He took Kabal's weapons, and he uses them like a pro. Mavado uses the American Government as if they work for the Red Dragon themselves, now he is in Outworld working for the most powerful beings in another realm, eliminated Kano of the Black Dragon (I hope they work around that one) and now (still employed by Quan Chi) sets his sights on a temple located in the Antartic on Earthrealm.
Mavado's story could surprise us in so many ways. Sonya could proove to be a member of the Red Dragon, or Sub-Zero could work out a deal with them. The Dragon Medallion could play a role of importance.
Kabal's story is that he's an ex-criminal who got beat up and now needs a mask and turned vigilante. The biggest surprise that could come out of his character is that he's someone we know from MK1, MK2, MK:SF, MK:M. Or maybe it's a new Kabal? That's the best storyline I can come up with.

Kabal is a great character and so is Mavado. Their storyline should be one of hate and rivalry. Kabal being an ex member of the Black Dragon and Mavado wanting to kill every living member of the clan, Mavado already fought Kabal and nearly killed him, he took Kabal's hookswords and now Kabal after laying low for a while wants his revenge, he is going for Mavado's Head.

i usually share similar opinion's with the wise "tempusername" but i think imma have to side with "you-know-who" on this one. i dont like kabal and i think mavado has a much greater storyline! kabal had good moves but they were all unrelated to each other. and he is ugly haha. i also feel mortal kombat has enuff good guys in the game. they shoulda left kabal dead and stick with mavado, just give mavado better moves for mk6. i loved his flowing trench coat.
