"We did acknowledge that we won't be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone's head off and the spine being attached to it," says Boon. "My response is that, no, we're modifying fatalities. But I have every intention to keep finishers."

Our guess is that the fatalities for Batman, Superman and the DC Comic characters are beat-them-to-a-pulp style fatalities. No matter how hard we try to imagine it, we just can't see Superman tearing off someone's head with the spine attached.

The Batman fans will cry if they see him have his head ripped off though.

That's just tough. I don't cry every time I see Shao Kahn get fucked up in a fatality. These "Batman fans" need to realise that he's not dead. He's just make-believe dead. If he is declared dead in the canon storyline, that's different.

The real reason is the Teen Rating, of course. I actually think that beating the crap out of someone till they become all bloody ala Fight Club, even if they're not actually killed, is way too 'M' for a 'Teen' rating (actually that would be hella gruesome for a fatality. Usually Midway would do something corny and have them explode though...)

I'm thinking we'll get some finishers where it goes into slowmo and/or some really dramatic camera angle, and we'll get a really powerful looking scripted attack that will floor the opponent cold. Like Scorpion charging up fire and doing a super backflip kick say.
