He wasn't in MK3 and his appearance in the other versions of it aren't canon.

I don't think Raiden was in MK3.

Sub Zero is the only character to be in all MKs.

True but the average joe or casual fighter fan wouldn't know that nor would he care. They're still pretty much the same character gameplay wise.

Seeing as Mortal Kombat Trilogy overrides Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat 3 (much like SFA2 overrides SFA1), Raiden's "appearance in the other versions" are indeed canon.

No they aren't canon. You forget that it also had goro and kintaro in it. Raiden, Baraka, goro and kintaro aren't canon in the official mk3 storyline. It was called mk trilogy so they included characters that were in all of them. The endings and storys of the characters that actually are canon are overwritten. But for right now those characters aren't canon. They got his story about giving up his immortality from the MK annihilation movie.

Dosen't matter if UMK3 or MKT were canon or not. The point is Raiden wasn't in MK3.

Garlador - That would also be MK3.

Sub-Zero (one of the two at least) is the only character to appear in every MK game as a default character. But strictly technically speaking, no character has appeared in every MK.

MKT was Canon. Baraka had his own storyline, so did Cage. Just because Raiden's was partially derived from MKA does not mean that it is not canon. However, Goro and Kintaro's appearances are not canon. They aren't even in the N64 version.

MKT also introduced Khameleon, and gave us a glimpse into the fact that Mileena was working for Shinnok.

Also, MKI Sub-Zero was NOT in MKT. UMK3/MKT masked sub-Zero was someone else entirely. His ending states so. Remember, just because an ending does not happen does not mean that elements from the ending are null and void (EXAMPLE: Although Scorpion was thrown into the Soulnado, he did not die from it, as his MKDA ending stated).

And since MKT is canon and counts as a version of MK3, this means that Raiden, Scorpion, and A Sub-Zero have put in constant appearances. So has Johnny Cage, but maybe not this time...

Does it matter that much who the Sub-Zero was? The only reason he was in is because Boon+Co wanted a character with Classic-Sub's moves, specials, costume and fatalities.

No matter what random non-canon story they had to come up with for him.

Screw the shitty story,Sub Zero was in all the MK's. He had the same powers, the same outfit but different story.

Just because they have stories doesn't mean they are canon. They added goro kintaro and MK1 and MK2 versions of characters because playstation had more space. Classis sub, raiden, goro, kintaro, and baraka aren't canon. Khameleon and chameleon are official characters.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy is another game, and I don't see how it overrides anything. So since everyone on here is getting really technical about it, Raiden wasn't in MK3. He WAS in MKT, but not MK3, so he wasn't in everygame.
