Well, as you all know there were A LOT of GREAT games..... and not-so-great games. I know there's at least ONE game you were anticipated about, but it just flopped before your eyes. for this thread, just name one game you were truly hyped up about (if you had any that is), but just didnt cut it. and say why.
Mine?
KILLZONE MUTHAFUCKING 3!!!!!!!!!!!!
KILLZONE 2 was such a masterpiece, it set a bar for FPS' so HIGH that i dont think any other FPS can touch it, The single player was just phenomenal, and Multiplayer was just a MASTERPIECE, Multiplayer was/is the heart & soul of KZ2, it was exciting, never boring, 32 players shooting each other, the MOST balanced classes i've ever seen, it was just a fucking masterpiece, no other words to describe it...
But then KILLZONE 3 got announced, and i almost died from excitement, i sold most of my games, because i had faith in GG, i mean KZ2 was fucking awesome, so why doubt them? then the Beta came along.... it wasn't boring or anything, i was just mad about the Matchmaking system they've put in. but none-the-less i was moderately pleased.... then It finally came out and i was downright excited... Single Player? exceeded my expectation of EPICNESS... Multiplayer, on the other hand was just a fucking flop in every way... it was the same god damned shit as the beta, and the more i played, the more i thought that KZ2 and KZ3 should have switched seats...
MAtchmaking was horrible - Why take out dedicated servers, for a shitty host connection? on top of that, they took out custom games, which one match would last up to 1 hour, or MORE!
Classes - It wasn't what i expected, the Marksman class (sniper class) is so overpowered, and they took out custom classes, which made KZ2 all the more enjoyable to play.
Gameplay - It ran pretty good, the pace was still there, and is still pretty fun, but it lacks the versatility that KZ2 had. especially with the noob mode "Team Death match" incorporated in the game.
It was pretty much an alien Call of Duty to sum it up pretty well.
as a big supporter for GG and their Killzone series, i would hope they learned from their mistakes, and would grow on what Killzone 2 did right, in the inevitable Killzone 4.

Gears of War 3 is the most boring game in the market in my opinion.
I remebered how excited I was for Beast mode. Then I played it. The Campaign had alot of pointless segments. I mean, was that underwater level really necessary? I bloody suck at Multiplayer so I obviously don't enjoy that. After 10 rounds of Horde, I'm already feeling the repetitiveness.
Nothing is really appealing in that game.

Dead Island. This game bores the shit out of me.

Duke Nukem: Forever was definitely the biggest disappointment. I heard people waited like 12 years for it to come out. Wow.

Maybe you thought it was good. And that's great except not everyone will think the same as you. I didn't like it, not saying its bad, but I'm saying that I was disappointed with it. It did not meet my expectations. Sure it had a few great things, like the facial animation technology but that really doesn't matter if the game is lacking in other areas. And especially considering how long it took to make and how much it cost it didn't live up to shit.

Exactly where was it lacking? I'm not saying it was perfect but it was outstanding. Amazing story, interview mechanic is unlike anything else in gaming, action directly relates to the story. It was a great game. A true detective throwback. It might have taken a while to make but at least it wasn't a let down like Duke Nukem Forever.

ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 sucked aswell imo.

-Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (bare bones and dull)
-Rage (extremely linear, and not much fun)
-Pokemon White (sorry, but it can't hold a candle to Pokemon HeartGold)
...and from what I've heard, Duke Nukem Forever sucked ass.

SOCOM4 - the best tactical shooter on PS2 has turned to absolute shit on PS3. Confrontation at least had a "SOCOM feel" despite it being a near unplayable and buggy/glitchy mess. SOCOM4 was a Call of Dookie wannabe that just made SOCOM fans pissed. It didn't sell well and it's online population is miniscule.
Operation Flashpoint: Red River - Aside from the Fire Team Engagement mode this game was worthless. It was so bad and performed so poorly Codemasters closed down the studio making it to focus on driving games.
Mortal Kombat - *GASP!* Yeah, I didn't really like this year's MK. It was fine or whatever but it didn't click with me. I was really looking forward to it too but I just had no motivation to play it. It didn't take over my world like MK did when I was younger. Maybe I've outgrown it.

To me, it seemed like the bigger the budget, the less I enjoyed a game.
He's the titles that disappointed ME personally (so don't take this personally).
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Don't confuse "disappointment" with "hated". I actually love Deus Ex... but I'm not even done with it yet, fully. I keep trying, trying very hard, to get "into the game" because I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, stealth, and Blade Runner-esque worlds. And yet... I keep feeling like the game doesn't want me to get close to anything and pushes me away. Many character (including the main character) sound so dull, wooden, and lifeless. The visuals hurt my eyes after long play sessions (why is EVERYTHING such a dull gold? Where's the variety of color?). I love the soundtrack, and I like freedom, but then the gameplay seems very directionless and neither the stealth nor the shooting feel up to snuff (especially after I've played so many Metal Gear games and Batman: Arkham Asylum/City). Couple that with a meandering, convoluted, yet hardly emotionally-engaging story, characters the game refuses to let me get to know better (when I want to), very bad bosses, and a very poor way to choose the ending of the game (just pick your button), and I was highly disappointed.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - I would add "Ultimate" to this list too, but I figured the first game was by far the more disappointing one. It was unbalanced, void of features and options, bare-bones, had a terrible online lobby (watch the cards hump each other to death) , and I'm not even a fan of the "throw black ink over everything" style they went with. Ultimate improved a few things, and added in my favorite Marvel hero Nova, yet the fact that Mega Man seems to be hated by Capcom so much, and isn't in the game STILL (despite being such a beloved icon), is possibly more disappointing than the actual game itself.
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim - WHAT?! This game? How dare he, right? Well, again, I'm not saying Skyrim is bad. No, no, no. Skyim is such a big game, so people's experiences are bound to be different. MY experiences, however, were VERY bad. For starters, I didn't even make it through the opening cutscene without the game glitching out and preventing me from arriving at my destination to begin the game, so I had to restart. Then weird things kept happening, like people's heads disappearing, quest-givers falling through the floor (and never coming back). I had at one time over 7 quests I was unable to finish due to glitches that prevented me from completing them. Include backwards flying dragons, no magic resistance, and, eventually, game-ending stutter, freezing, crashing, and unplayable lag and I threw my hands up in the air and said "screw it". Sure, there is a GOTY in that buggy mess SOMEWHERE, but I shouldn't have to wait on my ass for over a year for them to fix the damn thing that I paid them full price for just because they were in too much of a hurry to release it on that valuable 11-11-11 street date.... and yet I, the paying customer, had to pay for their greed. They should have delayed it, and I shouldn't have to restart my game because their testers suck at their jobs.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Here's a few games I played this year that didn't actually first come out this year, but I played them, so I think that counts.
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (3DS release) - I'm complaining about a free game I got as a Nintendo Ambassador. Is that allowed? I think so, because I adored 99% of this game. There was one mechanism I utterly despised though: permanent character death. Granted, that has always been a staple of the series, I'm told, but this was my first Fire Emblem game and I was eager to see what the fuss was about. Let me tell you, nothing is as frustrating as being locked in a three-hour battle, making it towards the very end, mid-way through the game, when your favorite character whom you're building levels and relationships with, takes a random critical hit from a badguy and gets killed... making you either restart the whole damn battle and lose all your progress or soldier on without a character that was important to the story. No resurrection spells, no return in the next battle... only two options are "restart" or "let him die". That may raise the stakes of every battle... but it also prevents the game from being as fun as everything else makes it out to be.
Metroid: Other M - I played this last year. I thought I'd give it another fair shake, free from my initial rage. That was a mistake. I hate this game even more than I did before. It's a blight upon the Metroid name that drags Samus through the mud and makes me both furious and depressed that nobody involved in the game saw any problem with this. I hate all the characters, I hate the authorization system, I hate the controls, I hate the voice acting, I hate the story, I hate the (lack of music), I hate the bland, linear hallways, I hate the generic enemies, I hate the game-breaking dodge move, I hate the magic ammo refill mechanic that makes item collecting pointless, I hate the goes-nowhere Deleter subplot, I hate the pixel hunts... there is so much the game does wrong, I still keep expecting to wake up from a bad dream and hear that it was just a nightmare and that nobody is THAT stupid as to screw up a Metroid game THAT badly. Yet, well, there it is, and there it remains, stinking up the Metroid saga, and making Samus's 25th Anniversary this year one of the most depressing, under-appreciated, and barely acknowledged milestones for one of the most influential franchises of all time. I went back and played both Metroid 1 and Prime 1 to feel better about the series... but it sucks that Other M remains the last word in from Nintendo until a new game gets announced. Samus deserved a better game.
Those are my disappointments of the year. Thanks for reading.

Really? ppl were disappointed by Marvel Vs. Capcom 3?! I think its one of the funnest fighters to have come out. Disappointed that Ultimate came out less than a yr later? Absolutely, but the actual game is very fun. It does lack all the extras MK had, but its a capcom fighter... when do they have an effective story mode?
I wasn't truly disappointed by any games i bought this yr... however im slightly disappointed in nintendo since their 2011 gameplan essentially consisted on nothing BUT skyward sword.

I know. I mentioned that too. I was aware of that before playing the game, which meant I was trying to be extra careful and make sure all my characters were leveled up and ready for whatever the game threw at them... But the game is also programmed to go AFTER your weakest or most injured characters, so the instant a character is hurt, their chances of survival decrease until you can heal them. Over six times this has happened to me where one of my best characters gets killed (often in the damn ARENA where I was trying to level them up) and I'm forced to restart and hope my strategy works like it used to just to get back to square one. I'd even be okay with this if the game allowed for save states or saving mid-battle, but it doesn't. And, again, I cease having fun with a game when it literally strips away hours of my progress in one blow. I think that's faulty game design, even if I adore the rest of the game, from its visuals to its story to its soundtrack. Just that one feature makes me ask "why bother" and put myself through that frustration. It's hardly motivating to see the end of the game when your favorite characters may not live long enough to get an ending.
This year had a lot of surprising cult hits for me, though... maybe I'll start my own thread to negate all this negativity with some surprise successes. In fact, I'll do that now. I need a pick-me-up.
I actually liked nost of the games I played that came out this year. However there was a few.
MvC3: It just could not beat number 2.
Battlefield 3: I have not played this game past the beta, so please take my sort of jaded judgement on this lightly for those of you who liked it, but it just seems to me that it did not live up to what it should have been. I do applaud them for going up against COD though.
