Today, June 6th, 1944, American, British and Canadian troops landed along the coast of Normandy, initiating the greatest Air, sea and landborne invasion of all time. What are your thoughts on this? Do any of you have relatives the fought in this campaign?

Now this is something apropriate for reverence. Unlike other recent, things. This actually means something and still matters.

My grandfather was stationed in Italy on this date, so he didn't take part in D-Day invasion. I happen to have one of the Liras he got while there.

Whatever.
My grandfather was stationed in far east (Phillipines to be exact) and never saw action, but, one has no idea the respect I have for the participants in D-Day and in any war.
Oddly enough, D-Day brought Chirac and Bush together. I read this somewhere that they were trying to forget differences and solve some problems and stuff.

I didn't have any of my family members fight in World War II but my grandfather was a para trooper in the Korean War shortly after.
I heard he used to jump out of air planes into enemy territory with only a select group of men. He was a scout who would gather intelligence and send it back to the U.S.
I never met him because he died of cancer from drinking and smoking 2 months before I was born.
