It depends on how long your hair is now, and if it's an inconvenience to you.

I was considering doing the same a while back. On the sides of my head, my hair, when fully outstreched (it's naturally wavy), goes past my chin. It had been a nuisence for a while, as it would get in my eyes when I was driving, and sometimes get in my mouth when I was eating. For now I've compromised and put it in a ponytail. It's more convenient, and people tell me I look like less of a derilict.
