Brian Griffin Dies: Could This Mean the End of Family Guy? Hopefully.
Brian Griffin Dies: Could This Mean the End of Family Guy? Hopefully.
Don't get me wrong, I love Family Guy. A lot.
However, I know as much as anyone else, including Seth MacFarlane, that the Emmy-winning series has run its course. The shows was hilarious the first five seasons, then began to trickle down. In recent years, it is more of a treat to get an episode that makes you bust a gut.
I now often watch the show for the sake of nostalgia and familiarity than for anything else. To be honest, I tend to skip the entire Animation Domination lineup Fox has and just watch Bob's Burgers, which is now really the only genuinely good show in that lineup, to me at least.
I probably wouldn't mind Brian's absence if they left it as an absence. However, the show's writers decided to replace Brian with another dog. This is where I bid Family Guy adieu. Any episode following the Death of Brian is pretty much a miss for me, save for the Simpsons Guy episode, which is something I've been waiting to see for years.
Some critics claim Brian's death was a scheme by Seth MacFarlane himself to cease the show, as he had previously spoken of how he felt Family Guy has long since ran its course, but exists only because fans demand it to. To be honest, I hope it's true and I hope it works.
The show needs to end, and quickly. Also, it needs to end with grace. Since the show has already been renewed for a 13th season, let's hope that will be the last.
Well, good riddance, you smart, drunk bastard.

I love family guy but it was failing for a few seasons now.
I actually think Brian, more than any other, was getting very stale. But killing him off was probably a bad move.

Reading this news around the web has surprised me. I have been watching family guy for years, and on netflix watching the first 10 seasons a couple of times. Just seeing that picture of Brian dead and the family looking at him struck a chord with me, and made me legitimately sad. I don't know where family guy will go after this, but all I know is that I will not like the new dog more than Brian, who after all of these years earned a small spot in our hearts.
Huh, well, I stopped watching this series a long time ago. I never really cared for it because it wasn't funny to me. Same with the Simpsons, you know I understand that it's the longest running cartoon series but it's not funny anymore.
I really wouldn't mind if either series saw a way to finally finish their run. They had their time in the sun, they still have their moments, but honestly... I don't care for either of them anymore.

Considering that Brian is far and away the best character on the long-since watered down Family Guy, I hope the show meets a swift end after this.

Should have been the end. Great series- but it lost the most intriguing charcter.

This is silly. It will only be a matter of time before he's brought back. There's a reason the car that hit him had tinted out windows and was never brought up again, and wasn't used as a talking-on-the-cellphone-while-driving throwaway gag. It will come up again in the future. Perhaps the new family dog was driving the car?
I'm not convinced, although it doesn't matter either way to me. I'm not a fan of the show regardless.

I think the latest episode is going to be just the first in at least a 2-part series, coming to a culmination when Stewie finds a way to either repair or replace his time machine and stop Brian from getting hit by the car.

Yeah, Brian's 'death' reeks of the same sort of meaningless attention seeking common in the comic book industry.

The next two episodes are completely unrelated to the Brian's death, as it had been confirmed.
If anything of the sort were to happen, it will be later down the line.

I get why you would consider them spoilers, but if you really care that much about someone spoiling some random TV cartoon show character dying you should probably focus up in your actual life. Just sayin'.

You've obviously never visited Comicbookmovie.com, then. When something gets spoiled right in the title/thumbnail of the article, and that happens quite a lot actually, hoooooooooo doggie. Anywho, to the topic, RIP, you crazy martini sipping dog.

I only just heard about this last night. The clip is on youtube and has already over 4,500,000 views.
I am sad to see Brian go in this way, but my interest in the show has waned significantly in recent years and i agree that the time to stop is probably near. I'm not sure who it was but someone said "Always leave 'em wanting more."
As for the replacement dog, the internet will let its feelings be known. Let the Hate begin...
