Max talks about Capcom hiring people for a next-gen fighter. Possibly Street Fighter 5?

Street Fighter? Pffft its MK Season son, aint nobody got time for that wink

Jk I enjoy Street Fighter, not nearly as much as MK but I do enjoy it. Ill probably sleep on SF5 and just get Super Street Fighter 5, and that's not me trying to us an overused played out joke , chances are I just wont have any interest in it for a while since once MKX comes out that's all ill want to play for a long ass time lol

I really hope it will be set after SFIII in the timeline. MK is finally moving it's timeline forward and it would be cool to see Street Fighter do the same.

SFV is going to be a strange game. After the virtually fan-assembled cast that SF4 had, one would think SFV would be all about new characters and atmosphere.

However, I don't think that's going to be the case. Capcom is in some huge financial shit right now. They can't really afford to take any risks. A game that has a mostly new cast with just Ken/Ryu is a dangerous bet, and after what happened with Soul Calibur V, they'd be kinda crazy to do that.

But at the same time... I don't know. If they try to make a fan love-letter like SF4, people are gonna look at it and think "This looks a lot like SF4. And I have four versions of that game that I don't play anymore."

It's going to be a fine line. They definitely need new content and characters. That's a must. At the same time, they need to stay anchored and represent the previous eras. Even if they hit those two notes with perfect pitch, I still think they need to add in something crazy. People need to know they're buying a brand new experience, and adding a hundred new characters isn't going to do that. The nostalgia is gone. The necessity for a new Street Fighter is gone. If people want to relive Street Fighter from their childhood, SF4 is doing that perfectly fine, next-gen or not.

A massive story mode would be the silver bullet to success, but they can't afford a project like that anymore. They may have to succeed the old fashioned way: revolutionize the genre with a game that's incredibly innovative yet still really fun. That's a tall fucking order, though. Even if Capcom hired the best designers the industry has to offer, the 2D style has been farmed out, IMO. If anything new can even be done with the genre, I doubt they have the brain power to discover it.

I couldn't agree more Temp.

I also feel Street Fighter 5 needs to do some major overhauling if it actually wants to stay relevant and competitive against more modern fighters like KI and a Mortal kombat. SF4 is 5 years old and outside of the hardcore community, the game alienated a lot of players and was a turn off to more casual players. They're going to have to change a bunch of stuff so they can actually grow the fan base.

Capcom is in deep shit if they actually are contemplating a SF5.

I remember something about not being another SF for the forseeable future in this decade, or something among those lines. but then again, lying is the part of marketing and management.

I don't think they ever said there wouldn't be one this decade. I recall someone from Capcom (possibly Ono) stating about 2 years ago that there probably wouldn't be another SF game for at least 5 years.
[edit]: Now that I think of it. I believe Ono said this after Street Fighter X Tekken was released, just before Mortal Kombat 9 came out. Stating there wouldn't be a new Street Fighter game for a long time, because they fighting game market was over saturated.

This probably had to do with development time for a new game from the ground up, Capcom switching over to a new propriety game engine and next gen consoles being on the horizon. Capcom execs have come out in the past few months though and stated they would like to decrease the waiting time between new entries in their game franchises. maybe 1.5-2 years and bring them more in line with companies like Ubisoft and EA.

Although i don't think they are financial stable to even attempt this. let alone the right direction for the majority of their game franchises.

Yeah, because making sequel to the one of the most profitable franchises in the complany portfolio means that said company in a bad shape. Surrrrrrrrrre.

I am not denying that Capcom is in trouble, however, the fact that their making sequel to the SF4, which was one of their cashcows for the last few years, is nothing special. It's completely logical move and the game most likely in a very early state of development (if not planing), so if we see anything about it, it'll come only the next year at best.

Unashamed Street Fighter fan. Love the thought of Street Fighter V. Will be happy with any impression of moving the characters forward on a palatable playing base. Would like to see something a little different to SFIV. Don't expect them to reinvent the wheel, or abandon the trademarks that have made them one of the best. Won't be buying the first couple of versions without strong incentives, but will be thrilled to move on from SFIV with a total package.

I'd only want that because of one of the unused concepts:

A good Capcom clashing game wouldn't be bad, if they took characters from all Capcom game genres and not just the fighting games.

I'd love to see Nilin from Remember Me being pitted against Zero from Megaman Zero, for example. I've also always wanted to see Sieg Warheit from Chaos Legion to be in a fighting game, using the different Legions in his special moves.

I'm not fond of VS games though. They tend to be taken alot less seriously than when Capcom is focusing on a certain franchise. The only exception being the Marvel VS games...

It's not like Capcom can fuck it up any further than Resident Evil. I better shut my mouth, though. That series just MIGHT. Take a step in the right direction in early 2015. Overly hyped about REmakeHD? A little but I'll take it over the action movie that it's been since the very bittersweet RE4.

If it's not Tekken X Street Fighter, then I'm officially giving up on that game ever coming out, along with The Last Guardian and Half-Life 3.

Capcom wouldn't develop that game.

They already developed Street Fighter X Tekken. And the whole point behind Tekken X Street Fighter was to have Namco Bandai develop it so it could play like Tekken.

Harada has said Tekken X Steeet Fighter is not dead, they're just waiting for the right time to market it.

That game was terrible. Cyberbots was obscure and bleh.

We need a Capcom Vs SNK 3 or a new Rival Schools

As long as it's called Street Fighter 5 and takes place before Street Fighter 3, I'll be happy.

Considering how Capcom treat SF storyline nothing precludes them from making SF5 full-fleshed sequel and include all cast from SF2 onward.
