Well while i was scanning through my computer for friggin spyware and stuff i stumpled with my rpg ROM collection (i actually had most of them copyright police!!), anyways, so i found some great RPG's, some well known some really awkward and i decided to make a classic RPG thread for us to discuss, which RPG's we liked, what are the best parts and storylines as well as other stuff that makes up the magic of RPG games.
I found a couple of surprises whilst checking out my RPG's, i found some really cool ones:
Bahamut Lagoon - Really cool and almost unknown RPG, based on the story of several Dragons (they're actually the main characters), it has FFVI graphics, and its awsome even tho the gameplay is really weird.
Illussion of Gaia - This was actually an action/ adventure game but it has some awsome storyline and and features.
Ultima - Yes i found ultima I and even tho for nowadays RPG it's just a piece of old junk the story really traps you and the adventure is worht it.
Final Fantasy 1,2 & 3 (Japan) - When i was a little kid and my parents went on a holiday, i aske them to bring me MegaMan 4 for my NES all i got was this black bos with the legend Final Fantasy and a weird Orb and a sword behind it, i was really disappointe d ut i decided to give a shot to this game, after a couple of days i was totally into it and thanx to this game i started loving the FF series as i do now and of course any game. It also teached me not to rejet anything before trying it or to actually decide i don't like it. These games are awsome very little knonw in america but even the graphics are crappy and choppy the storyline and the work behinf it is awsome.
Well this are some of the RPG i found, if you have more and would like to discuss it use this thread. I'm posting this link for ppl that would like to know more about classic RPG. wwww.rpgclassics.com
If this link is going against the rules, pls don't close the thread just give me a chance to edit it and delete it before you close my thread.I'm in no intention trying to get ppl into the site, but as a rpg fan this is a great site ti visit. Cheers
I hope you like dthe idea.SuCh Is LiFe......

I've never played any of those rpgs you mentioned. I only really got into rpgs a few years ago. I've never played a Final Fantasy game and probably won't for awhile, but I love some of the other rpgs that I've played. Like Skies of Arcadia. That one is great. Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age are also great too.

Thanks redman for the sig!

I like certain rpg's, except for the turn based ones... It doesn't excite me to JUST push buttons and stratagize... the fun is in using the d-pad alot :) But Golden Sun is classic, and Paper Mario too. But my favorite rpg thus far is Phantasy Star Online.

Breath of Fire 3. I love it. Of course, I think the US version was changed a bit by Capcom. Either way, I love that game. As soon as I get money, I'll try to find it online.

i think breath of fire series are awsome, thei incorporated thins tothe rpg world such as magic combinations which are incredible, another RPG that made history was Chrono TRigger, which is one of the most beautiful RPG ever. As for Golden sun i haven't played it yet , but im willing to buy it for my GBA.
I used to have Phantasy Star II (or III) on my computer.
I played it for a while but I never finished it. I always wondered how people could play that on a Genesis (MegaDrive). Wouldn't that be like playing FFVII without saving?
Another RPG I like is Skies of Arcadia (though the characters were a bit too much a-like). Elder Scrolls:Morrowind is cool too apart from the fact that every goddamn time it tends to get stuck and I have to reset my xbox.
I've also got Balders Gate II but I was a bit disappointed with it. It was just too easy (try running around your opponent in circles while hitting them, gets them every time).
The best one I've played so far is SW:KOTOR, I love it.
But I don't know if those games qualify as classics.

well KOTOR is not an old game but it surely turn into a classic, i hacen't had the opportunity to play it, is it a turn based RPG? or is it more action oriented?, well i also remember playing the ff series in the GB which really are Secret of Mana for the GB but you know the translation sucks sometiems. Anyways i hope to buy KOTOR soon.

It's not turn based. The action is real time and pretty intense too in the later levels.
I always used to prefer turn based but now that I've played KOTOR, I'm not so sure.
It isn't all about action though, it certainly isn't a hack-and-slash game, it's got plenty of storyline in it.

I'm prity much a big fan of RPG's and so i'll list my favourites.
Final Fantasy 6 (snes): The japaneese version not the edited U.S version which was FF3, for me this is the best in the series with only FF7 equalling it.
Chrono Trigger (Snes): With out doubt one of the best RPG's ever this had it all, I dont see why the next gen systems cant match the Snes in RPG's, sure they can out do it graphically and have cool CGI cut scenes, but they dont have the feeling and playability that the Snes RPG's had, even the Playstation remake wasn't as good as the original and nither was the sequal Chrono Cross.
Secret Of Mana (snes): This was the game that got me collecting Soundtracks on CD, the soundtrack is Unrivalled, oh yeah the game's great also.
Seiken Densetsu 3 : Secret Of Mana 2 (snes) This was one of the games that pushed the Snes to the limits,There are mutiple Characters to choose from for the lead character and such has great replay value, the soundtrack is good also, although not as good as the first, this wasn't available out side of japan but is available as a ROM.
Tales Of Phantasia (Snes) A RPG created by Namco, yep they didn't just do beat em up's and racing games, and i have to say it's prity damn good, it uses real time battles, has great animation and effects and quite a good story to it, this was one of the games that appeared towards the end of the Snes's life so to speak and such pushed it to the limits, the soundtrack isn't bad either using a full song with lyrics for the intro which is great even tho it's sung in japaneese.
Star Ocean (Snes): Again this appeared towards the end of the Snes and was one of the biggest games to appear in terms of cart size being 48 megabits, this wasn't released out side of japan but is available as a ROM, This really does push the Snes it has the best effects and Animation that I have seen for a Snes RPG not far off a Playstation title, it's also the only RPG for the Snes that i know of that has a Sci-Fi theme, the intro has full speech in english and is a rip off of Star Trek even using the line "where no man has gone before" but i feel this is just paying tribute, the soundtrack is great also, this is one i can highly recommend if you can get hold it.
Final Fantasy 7 (playstation): Not much i can say other than it's equal to FF6 in the best of the series, if not one of the best RPG's, it's a shame the series went a bit down hill after this, although ff12 is looking quite interesting so far maybe that will bring the series back to where it should be.
Breath of Fire 4 (playstation): Apart from a rather fiddly camera this is a great RPG, having two storys that start out seperate then get Intertwined, The dragon summon spells/transformations are quite excellent, if you like the Bahamut summons in Final Fanasty 7 you will like these.
Kingdom Hearts (PS2): A game made by both Squaresoft and disney, sounds crap but it's rather good imo, this uses real time battles and the worlds and characters within are spot on in looks and sound to their counterparts in the Movies, the Final Fantasy characters even look better especially those from FF7, and the sequal is looking even better.
Disgaea (PS2): This a first glance doesn't look like much, it doesn't push the PS2's graphics to any limits and it also comes on a normal PS2 blue disc and not DVD rom as most do now, there are only 14 chapters in all so you would think this wouldn't last long,WRONG, it can be played till the end rather quickly if you want to, but if your into upgrading characters and weapons etc to the max than this will last a long long time, It's a stratagy based RPG that requires planning and thought, and is one I would reccommend.
