Not much else needs to be said here. Oblivion take you Capcom.

They thought nostalgia alone would work.

I'm not particularly surprised. It's pretty much like how Square Enix puts emphasis on Final Fantasy games instead of doing something good with their other series.

Kind of agree. They would have done better to do a high def port of Darkstalkers Chronicles or something more than really a straight port with online play.
I also think with the current transition from current gen to next gen, it might be better for Capcom to put it on hold, like like any new Street fighter games.

Probably the same type of people who thought that bringing Killer Instinct back under a developer with no successful games was a good idea.

I don't remember the challenge modes or online play from the original games. Or are you just talking eye candy? This isn't a series as popular as Street Fighter, and a visual overhaul may have been a waste of money.

Pretty much. It seems with every new detail about Killer Instinct, Double Helix is showing that they know what they are doing. They have a lot of different fighting game veterans working on the game.
As far as Capcom goes, it keeps looking more like the only game they know how to do right is Street Fighter.
Judging a company on what they've done as opposed to the effort they *are* doing now is like judging David Fincher as a poor director for Alien 3.
DH are going balls-out on Killer Instinct. Remember, you're ironically judging a company on what they've done in the past, when, if you weren't being a hypocrite, you would have abandoned Mortal Kombat after the first game.
POINT: Things can change

Except Midway was already well established as a reliably good developer before MK came out, and Boon's team did the best they could with what they had, so no, it's not hypocritical at all.
What we're seeing with KI is a game where the character models look hideous, and in watching numerous gameplay videos I'm not seeing very much to like about the mechanics, either. I'm not doubting Double Helix's effort. I'm doubting their talent, and with good reason.

I wouldn't blame DH for that. Unless they were given complete creative freedom from Microsft which is highly unlikely, I doubt they had the final say on what the characters look like.
I doubt that Microsoft would oveerwatch every single art decision of the developers. The main interest is to seel the game and for that is should had a good gameplay first and foremost.
Art / graphics are important, but without substance it would be a dud. However, if MS aims to make quick weekend hit and nothing else...

I know this is mostly my fault, but we're getting off-topic. Let's shift it back to DS, if there's even anything to say at this point.
Too bad. Probably the only CAPCOM fighter I really enjoyed for the cheese factor. And Hsien Ko.
Please CAPCOM, bankrupt. You already showed us how out of the picture you are with Megaman and the Japanese market is already beginning to demand something new.

This is a blessing in disguise. After seeing SFxT, I don't even know why anyone wants a Darkstalkers 4 at this point. If it's going to be made right, then it can't be made right now.
If Capcom goes bankrupt and it never happens, so be it. Better that than having a current-gen Darkstalkers game with "dark" gems and twilight factor. Don't get me wrong either: I'm actually the optimist here. It's clear Capcom knows they fucked up, and we're actually seeing some healthy changes in the company... but they need more time. They're in no shape to make a good Darkstalkers game just yet.

I'm not surprised. Darkstalkers is my fav fighting game series of all time and with Capcom I think it will eventually get made. Maybe not now but it will be back I'm sure of it. Look at Capcom is bringing back Strider so it's a good possibility. + I'd rather wait for a fantastic Darkstalkers game than an good Darkstalkers installment.
Maybe next Evo Capcom changes there mind. I can only hope.

I just got Darkstalkers Resurrection and I gotta say, I love Darkstalkers. Don't know why I didn't play it before. Having played it, I really hope a Darkstalkers 4 is made at some point in the future. Jon Talbain is way too cool to never be seen again.

Though I'm sure NRS has more than enough on their plate with both Mortal Kombat and Injustice, I honestly believe they would do a fantastic job revamping Darkstalkers.
But since I'm sure that is likely to never happen, I think the creative prowess should be turned to Nintendo. In fact, with the steady inclusion of Capcom characters in Super Smash Bros., it seems there could be a chance Nintendo may throw a hand into Capcom development, including Darkstalkers. If so, I wouldn't even care if the series became Nintendo-exclusive; it would only give me a reason to buy a Wii U.

I sincerely hope that doesn't happen. No fighting series should go exclusive to one console. (With the exception of Brawlers) If Darkstalkers 4 went Nintendo exclusive I'd never play it. Same thing with KI and Xbone.
But in all honesty, I'd really like Capcom to stay on as the developer. As money hungry as they are, they know how to make their fighting games.

Aww man... I'd have loved to see Darkstalkers be revived.
Oh well, at least I am going to enjoy the new Killer Instinct. I've kinda lost hope for Capcom which is a shame as it is a company I grew up with. Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Mega Man, Resident Evil... all part of my childhood. But I guess that belongs to the past now. A shame though.

TBH I'm tired of the "Nostalgia" word it's so overly used and abused. Red Dead Revolver came to psn as a PS2 classic. And looks horrible on LCD tv. That game should of been an up-scaled 720p game. KILLZONE HD. Is my all time favorite HD remake. Incredible work by them on it. That's how you bring back a classic. CRAPCOM is nothing more then leeches.
The fact that SFIV has all these modifications and feels a need to re-release the SAME game with more characters is just stupid. All this could of been DLC then when CRAPCOM felt it was enough dlc on the marketplace/store they could of made a DLC Game of the Year Edition. I honestly thought SSFIV was it. But now this new one with all the characters from 3rd strike. Rolento should of been in SSFIV a long time ago. That's my boy. But the fact they waited this long to bring in 3RD Strike cast is stupid.
Darkstalkers is a great franchise. I have played the holy hell out of those games, and to see them come back with the "Nostalgic" factor and resurrect the old ones while nice, is pointless if it's not building up to the new one. Why bring in a old game if there's no build-up to anything?
I really think the classic DS's would of been a good pre-order bonus for those who pre-order the new one. Not a stand alone psn store / marketplace remake.
Killer Instinct didn't do this, neither should DS. Still wish KI was on ps3 but whatever. I'll get to that game sooner or later.

This I agree with.
Take me for example. I just bought Resurrection and I love it. It's left me wanting more Darkstalkers as a result. So now I'm playing a great game that feels like something should be following it. It got me hooked and now I want more Darkstalkers. Had there been a Darkstalkers 4 it would've been perfect. But oh well. Maybe someday.

To be fair, Ultra Street Fighter 4 is going to be DLC. You can purchase it digitally for $15 when it comes out. There's a disc version, but you don't have to buy it if you already own the game. For five new characters plus system changes, that's a pretty good deal.
I mean, yeah, Capcom has made some mistakes. The SF4 expansions are not one of them, though. When you look at the content you were getting in return, every single expansion was a fairly good deal.
Sadly, Capcom is financially almost dead. It would take a miracle for Darkstalkers 4 to even start development.
