I JUST beat the game too.
Wow, it was intense. Those final chapters have so many enemies that get the drop on you, sneak up behind you, and then simply overwhelm you... I have no idea how I'm gonna get through it on my inevitable Hardcore mode. I died so many times on the easier difficulties!
But it was still great. Isaac was a surprisingly likable hero. Ellie was hardcore. The finale was great. The action was intense. It was really fun and tense from beginning to end.
Bring on Dead Space 3!

I would recommend you check out Dead Space Aftermath, at least as a rental. The animation is a bit inconsistent (2D and 3D don't always match), and the stories are a bit hit-and-miss, but overall it really does flesh out the DS universe.
If you've played Dead Space 2 (or are going to), it shows the background for characters like Nolan Stross and the Overseer, fleshes the world out a bit, and is a bit entertaining in its own right.

Ah Ellie...
When the trailer (which you have to admit IS a little cheesy with Rat in A Cage playing) first came out for some reason I didn't like Ellie because she seemed like another bland boring character that dies in the end. But during playing I really liked the dialogue between her and Isaac and kept hoping that there would be some small chance she would survive.

The banter between Ellie and Isaac absolutely made the second half of the game much more enjoyable for me. I don't know how I'd manage without her there to keep me going.
Ellie:"How's it going up there?"
*Isaac fights off waves of Necromorphs*: "Oh, it's good times!"
Ellie: "Hold on. I think I can fix it from up here."
Isaac *mumbles*: "I think I'll just fix it from down here..."
Ellie: "What was that? I didn't hear you"
Isaac: "Uh, nothing..."
*Isaac fixes the box*
Ellie: "Ah. It's fixed! I did it!"
Ellie: "Isaac, this is a really bad idea."
Isaac: "Stick around. I'm full of bad ideas."
There were a few cases where Ellie literally made me scream "Hell yeah!" when she showed up. I'm still impressed by her.

And, yes, "You owe me an eye, you bastard!" Holy crap, she gets her eye gouged out and that only pisses her off! Here's hoping they can grow her a new one by the sequel... or maybe she'll keep the patch, just to show how hardcore she is.

How is it? I only played the demo and admit i was a little freaked out by the the rows of naked (Dead?) chicks in tubes on the walls.

It's nuts. If you liked the demo, but aren't very familiar with DS, I suggest you rent the 1st one or something to make a more informed buying decision .

I liked the first one I suppose, but wouldn't have really considered it a horror game, more just your regular action/sci-fi.
I just had a lot of issues with things in it, like how we were supposed to feel sympathy for Isaac even though he's a voiceless, personalityless drone.

Starting up a new game on casual. Why go down a difficulty? Because I want to feel like an unstoppable badass before I dare move up to Zealot and Hardcore..that and I need to upgrade my weapons more.

Definitely agree with you there. Now Daina on the other hand...
This will be on my favorite games of 2011 list that will no doubt be posted here next year :P
The endcredits Psych out for the ending was well played. The actual end credits song reminded me of silent hill 2's guitar instrumentals.
In fact the only complaint I have is towards the multiplayer. Two maps glitch occasionally and it gets annoying to try and pick up what's not there anymore.

Isaac has a personality in this game. And, surprise, it's a GOOD personality. He's that perfect balance of every-man, badass, scared, noble, and weak. I was impressed by his character arc in this game, and he goes through one really emotional journey. They definitely made giving him a voice work this time.
Playing through the first game made the second game so much sweeter. There are SO many nods and references to the first game that you just won't get at all unless you've played the first game.

Going back to the Ishimura. Seeing that ship again, with plastic and padding hiding the blood, blacklights bathing the Medical Bay in an eerie blue and showing you where people's footsteps went before they got killed, repair crews talking about how the ship is haunted, revisiting old areas with new looks, and encountering parts of the ship, like the quarantine room, and expecting a repeat of the first game made that nostalgic trip back very, very enjoyable.

The ending sequence, where it plays out like Dead Space 1. Isaac's in the cockpit, thinks he's safe, then something catches his attention, and he turns to see... Ellie. After having the crap scared out of me by Nicole in the first game, that part made me smile so much.

Finally beat the game yesterday. I gotta say it's one of the best vg's I've played, easily surpasses its predecessor. I've had a good share of jumps. The final chapters were a real bitch!
Contact beam is the greatest gun ever. Will definitely replay the game numerous times.
