- Ryan Reynolds to shoot ‘Deadpool’ in hometown Vancouver

TORONTO — Ryan Reynolds is coming home.

The 38-year-old actor is set to shoot the X-Men spin-off Deadpool in his hometown of Vancouver beginning in late March.

Reynolds will reprise his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool from 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine for the movie, which has booked two months at North Shore Studios.

It’s been a long road for Ryan Reynolds‘ “X-Men” movie spin-off “Deadpool,” but after over a decade of work the merc with the mouth is finally coming to the big screen in 2016. With filming scheduled to begin in just a few short months, when MTV News caught up with Reynolds at the Sundance Film Festival where his new movie “Mississippi Grind” had just premiered, we had to ask him about the project.

“You gotta have faith in the people you’re working with, and have faith in the prep, and that’s all I’m doing. On this one, the prep’s been 11 years. You’d like to think you’re putting your best foot forward, but we’ll see.”

Confident isn't quite the word. Diplomatic, maybe.

Gina Carano has closed a deal to join Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool, Fox’s action movie based on the wisecracking mercenary Marvel character.

Tim Miller is directing the action adventure project which is eyeing a March start in Vancouver. Lauren Shuler Donner is producing.

T.J. Miller is set to bring comedic relief to the movie in an undisclosed role. And, fanboy alert: the Russian X-Men character known as Colossus is slated to appear in the movie.

Carano will play a character known as Angel Dust. It is unclear how she fits into the proceedings but in the Marvel comics, the character was part of an underground mutant group known as the Morlocks.

Before she tackles Deadpool, however, Carano will star opposite Bruce Willis in Extraction, an action movie from Emmett-Furla and Aperture Entertainment.

Following the news that the armored X-Man Colossus would have a part to play in 2016's "Deadpool" feature film, actor Daniel Cudmore has revealed via his Twitter page that his days as Colossus have come to an end.

Paparazzi have been staking out director Tim Miller’s set, and over the weekend, they caught a few particularly revealing photos of Reynolds and his stunt double as the Merc with a Mouth. Above, you can see that the costume is faithful to the character’s comic get-up (he may have super-healing capabilities, but his red suit sure takes a beating). Perhaps more importantly, you can see in the photo below that the film is going all-in on the horrible facial scars that Deadpool's alter ego Wade Wilson received as he attained his super healing powers.





Of course, once you get the costume looking right off-the-page, everything else different starts to raise burning questions. Wonder if they'll be doing some CG on the face. Just seems like a cop-out, at this stage.

Director Tim Miller talks through his new promo

"Everyone hates what they did to Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but nobody blames Ryan for it." So says Tim Miller, director of Deadpool, in which almost uniquely, Ryan Reynolds has doggedly pursued the opportunity to revisit the character and do it right. All indications are that he and his team have absolutely nailed it this time. And with the trailer for the long-developed and much-rumoured Deadpool finally with us, we dragged Miller away from the editing suite long enough to talk us through it.



"We were never going to be able to keep Colossus as a secret. He was in the script that leaked and all that. I wasn't actually sure, until we were standing there shooting it, that at some point Fox was going to say, 'Hold on a second; we can’t put Colossus from our treasured X-Men franchise in this movie to be made fun of!' But they did, and not only that, but also they let me change the look of him. As a fanboy I’ve always been like, 'That dude with the shiny skin is not fucking Colossus.' He should be this monstrous guy, and they actually let me make him seven-and-a-half feet tall. I did actually call Daniel Cudmore to ask him if he wanted to do this, even though he’d be entirely CG the whole time. He was very nice about it. He was like, 'I appreciate your offering, but nah.'"

"In the original script the action in the third act was great, but it was just Deadpool and a lot of guns. One of my notes early on was that I wanted to see more superhero stuff. We had Garrison Kane in there for a while, but in the final round of budget cuts we had to take him out, because he was a pretty expensive dude. He’s got these bionic arms that change shape; he would have been a visual effect for a large part of the movie. And as it turned out, a visual effect too far. I went through the list of Marvel characters and picked a few others I thought could be visually spectacular and fun. And at the end of that list was Negasonic, which I just thought was a freaky, funny name. And I sent this list over to the writers, Rhett (Reese) and Paul (Wernick), and they were like, 'Oh my fucking god, we have to use her!' So that’s how she ended up in the movie. Her name was cool, and we kind of wanted a straight-man to play against Colossus. We thought about Cannonball, but he would’ve been a stupid hick character, whereas the guys wrote Negasonic as this deadpan goth teen, which was a great angle. She turned out really well. There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail."

Colossus might be the thing I'm most excited to see. Good revamp!

Just a day after we saw the veteran X-Men mutant Colossus as the endearing anchor of Deadpool’s IMAX poster, now it can finally be revealed which actor is playing the 7-and-a-half-foot metallic muscle house. Contrary to previously published news, EW can exclusively report that Colossus is voiced and partly performed via motion capture by Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic. The 37-year-old, who has made appearances on TV series such as 24 and The Event, was an eleventh-hour replacement for Andre Tricoteux in the role. (Actor Daniel Cudmore has played Colossus in three of the X-Men films.) Kapicic, in fact, only completed his performance in mid-December, a mere eight weeks before the movie’s Feb. 12 opening.

In an interview from his native Serbia, Kapicic tells EW about the casting process, finding the voice for the Russian mutant (which is more or less his own), and the immense fanboy excitement he feels at giving weight to an already heavy character.

- Deadpool Banned in China

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), the administration in China that regulates all media, is not known for its sense of humor. This is the organization that decides whether or not movies will be approved or denied release in China. There is no ratings system, there is simply a government-run pass/fail system based on whatever they feel is appropriate.

This usually means that R-rated movies are scrubbed of content deemed inappropriate before they are allowed to be released into Chinese theaters. But every once in a while, a movie comes along that cannot simply be trimmed to meet the standards of the censors.

20th Century Fox’s Deadpool is that kind of movie. THR is reporting today, sourcing numerous Chinese outlets, that Deadpool has been denied permission to be released in China.

It remains to be seen if Chinese humor police got it right. We may wish it was banned, if things don't go well. Except for the promotional campaign. That's been golden! SkullEmoji + PooEmoji + L? Genius!

I haven't been keeping up with all the TV spots, but I'm glad I saw this one, because it's exactly what I needed to see. They're not quite the Blind Al and Weasel I liked in the late 90s, but they look like they'll be a much needed, solid supporting cast. Fun!
