I think homosexuality can be a result of different factors.
I think you could become a homosexual for preference, i've seen this happen mainly on girls,some become homosexuals because of events or the enviroment in your life that shape who you are... like they said before... intimacy.
Finally I have had friends who turned out to be gay for no apparent reason... they did not have intimate moment with men before or more than women... but you know... they just felt attraction towards men...they can't explain it themselves... so I guess that's genetic

It all comes down to the fact that people are complex. Ever seen a guy who is insanely different from his parents? Like his parents are very nice down to earth kind of people and yet he turns out to be like Robin Williams? Well, how does something like that happen? Genetics? Maybe. Environment? Maybe. It's that ongoing nature vs. nurture debate. Sometimes it's a combination of factors but a lot of people disregard the possibility that there isn't always an explanation. Sometimes things are just the way they are because that's the way they are. Trying to analyze it can give you a headache. the only thing that determines a risk of an STD is the person that you're with, and whether of course you choose to use or not use protection. not what organ you choose to penetrate. there is a greater risk of a male btm (aka a gay man who prefers to be on the receiving end) of getting an STD if he is having unsafe sex, because the exposure area is a greater.
