Well, it may sound virtuous and honorable for someone to say they're "saving themself" until marriage, but from a practical standpoint it's really not a great idea. This may sound like a shallow and somewhat cliched comparison, but would you buy a car without test-driving it first? If you don't have sex with someone before marrying them, you have no way of knowing what your sex life will be like for (presumably) the rest of your life, until you've already made the commitment. If one partner is really bad in bed, the other will probably be more likely to cheat.

Well most of the time infidelity is about more than just sex. Especially from a woman's end. And though the car analogy is overly simplistic for something as complex as relationships, it does make a little bit of sense. A lot of concepts that sound nice on paper don't really work out in the long run. Granted, people are very different and what works for one person may be the worst thing for another so this is clearly going to be a generalization. But the way I see it, when you marry someone, you're making a life long commitment. Nobody (nobody sane at least) gets married with the intention of the relationship ending or without genuinely wanting to spend the rest of his/her life with the other. So just from that standpoint, do you really want to be in the situation where you marry someone and then get to know them? This isn't just about sex either. If you're allergic to dogs do you really want to marry someone only to find out later that he/she loves them and has a bunch? I'm not saying that it's ok to be promiscuous or anything but by the time two people are ready to get married, there shouldn't be any closed doors. Let me be honest for a second. Does the idea that I'll end up with a girl who knows only my touch sound nice? Damn straight it does. But the reason it sounds nice is because of my own insecurities. Not because it has any practicality to it. I'd like to know that my wife has nothing to compare me to. The last thing I want is to marry a girl who had sex with a guy better than me. That shit hurts and anyone who denies they worry about that is lying through his teeth.

Personally, I've often imagined that the virtue of chastity was created by people who were terrible in bed, and knew they'd never get married if the partner knew what they were getting into.
