As random as this thread might seem, I made a status that's been getting somewhat of an attention form the older folks... Mainly my family and a few family friends, but I at least had a point to make.

I was in class just recently and I overheard someone using "fuck" in their sentence... at least four times without ending their sentence. To me, I honestly don't understand the point of putting too many "fucks" in one sentence. One should be good enough to make a claim that this is serious or it's that horrible/good or whatever. But when I hear or see it used more than once in a sentence, the feeling of what that's implying to gets lost and I forget what's going on because nine times out of ten, I'm counting out in my head, how many times I hear "fuck" being used.

Sadly, it doesn't end even when we get out of college. I hear adults using that word more than once in one sentence, you'd think that it would end even when you have kids in your life... Unfortunately no.

To me, I have lost the understanding of what "fuck" really means. I tend to forget that it's actually a very bad word and that I can get into a lot of trouble if I were to say it in front of my parents. But because I hear it as it being used like it's a general word, that it's an "often used" word, I tend to think it's not such a bad word after all.

Do you understand where I'm going with this? Do you think the word "fuck" gets abused to a point where it's meaning is literally lost? Do you think some other curse word is more abused than this word? What's your intake of this?

It makes people sound stupid when every other word that comes out of a person's mouth is fuck

I think it might be. The word probably has lost its purpose when used way too much within a short period of time. I find it a bit stupid and slightly amusing, for some odd reason.

I think this image is relevant to the thread:

Fuck no ;)

Censorship is the tool of corrupt governments and people who believe they have moral authority over you.

Not a fuckin' chance.

No, but in all seriousness it depends on the frequency of its use. 5 times in one sentence, not okay. 1 time every 5 sentences, that's ok.

I think there is a time and a place for it, but society needs to mature beyond the point of giving a fuck about swear words so heavily. Some schools are starting to expel children for swearing. You're going to deny a child an education for repeating something so frivolous. So modernly media influenced?

Pardon my fucking french, but that's fucking retarded.

Yes I find that the word is well overused, and the overusers are normally quite trashy. A lot of the time in England people use the word before they are saying something but can't quite think how to get the words out if you know what I mean.

Fuck abuse!

Yeah, but seriously, my mom has it bad. Every other word is "fuck" or "shit" or "damn" or any curse word for that matter.

There is this rumor that says that "FUCK" derives from "Fornication Under the Consent of the King"–it was a sign used in the medieval England, equivalent for "Do not disturb." However, its origins come from Dutch or Low German as you will later on find out from the article in the link.
The reason why "fuck" is as diverse as it is today may result from globalization. Many languages have their own versions of "fuck" and in different languages the equivalent of "fuck" has different uses and I believe that ESL's may sometimes successfully distribute these (wrong) new usages and make them official in English as well, in the long run.
The Finnish equivalent of "fuck" would be "vittu" that means the sexual organ of a mother for at least five children, or sometimes just any pussy. With our diverse conjugation, "vittu" can translate into "vittu" (as in "fuck" or the sexual organ), "vitusti" (fucking lots of), "Millä vitulla?" (By what fuck? i.e. How the fuck?), "vituttaa" (to be pissed), "vitun" (fucking, i.e. fucking tough), "vittuilla" (to fuck with), "panna vituiksi" (to blow up), "Vittuako [se sulle kuuluu?]" (Not your business!) and "vittumainen" (annoying).
"Vitsi" is the equivalent of "fudge", meaning "joke". "Vittu" does not mean "a coward" nor "to fuck". The equivalent for "to fuck" would be "nussia".
I for one do hardly use any expletives or dirty words unless I see them somehow necessary e.g. if the one I'm discussing with uses abusive language very much on their behalf. There are actually languages that don't have any proper curse words, I hear that Dutch for instance doesn't have much other curse words than "kut" meaning "pussy". This is a reason why some languages borrow curse words from other languages. The other Nordic countries, especially Sweden, uses Finnish swear words widely because our language has like dozens of them. English curse words have also come here–"fuck", "shit" and "Fuck the shit." can be heard here from time to time. "Perkele" is the outright worst of them all.

[Rock and fucking roll.]

I love the word fuck. It's such a great word, so versatile and can be used to describe almost any situation, both good and bad. I don't think it is used enough!
I would show you a youtube video about the word fuck, but youtube seems to have some server issues at the moment, so I will post it later. ^^

Logically speaking I don't think fuck is abused anyway. Used very frequently, yes, but it still holds it's same meaning no matter how many times it's used. It's sex, and adjective, adverb, etc. It's the handyman's word. Do you want to know what words are abused?

Epic
Love
Beautiful
Ironic

You know. Those words that are improperly used or have lost the depth of their meaning.

At this stage in society, hearing swear words is almost unavoidable, and censorship has started to get so overboard to reverse this and has taken away from the value of modern art, as little as it may seem to hold. In my opinion, making a big deal out of swear words at this point in time is a bit immature, so long as people realize when a formal tone is needed.

i use the word fuck quite often. mostly because i'm used to hearing it from friends, family, people at my work and so on. it does get used a little to often. i'd rather hear multiple curse words than just saying fuck alot. but sometimes the word is better used music. like fuck the world by icp and dmx fuck y'all.

To me the word "fuck" is in a funny position because if a person uses it waaayy too much it can make them come off as stupid and kinda trashy. BUT at the same time if someone doesn't use it ever or seems uncomfortable with it it makes them look childish and pussyish. So basically you need to find a golden center with your 'fuck' usage. Be a classy motherfucker.

Whether it's Stupid, Trashy, etc. doesn't really matter. Because in the end of the day:

Yeah, maybe I do. I just wanted to bring something new to the conversation. I added the answer to the subject title, by the way. ツ

It kinda does matter tho in terms of how you want others to perceive you. Your free to say whatever you want but people will judge you a lot on the language you use. That's just kinda how our society works.

Not sure if the arguement ur goin with here really fits with what i said...confused

i don't mind it..... I'm around so many people that cuss all the time; I've just become numb to it....I probably use it too much myself... but not in any kind of professional environment or around the elderly (unless they themselves are using that language) . It really just depends on who I'm around. I find it hilarious when certain people say it. Some people just have that tone of voice that makes the word sound so funny. For instance, I have this friend who is extremely shy and quiet usually, but every now and then when she drops the F bomb i can't help but bust out in laughter because it is just so dam odd coming out of her mouth....but maybe that's just me. Anyways, it's always going to be around and there will always be people who are going to use/abuse the word. ...some people curse just for the sake of cursing....It doesn't bother me at all... I'm not easily offended.
