Question - this may sound really stupid, but i'm kinda worried. Is 2012 really going to be the end of the world? Or is it just a lame idea for a movie? Cause so many people say its quoted in the Bible and on some Mayan calendar and stuff... Is it actually true? :S

You'll quickly decide from this.

Thank you.
People have predicted so many random dates about when the world is going to end... Can anyone honestly guess how many of them were right?
...

...
Exactly. People have never and will never accurately predict when the Earth shall be destroyed.

Oh boy, i wish the Apocalypse was today. I'd go to my rooftop, with a bottle of redwine, some cigars, and a stereo equipement, blasting Mötley Crüe at the maximum volume, watching the world burn, from behind my shades.

Humans haven't changed. 5000 years later, you're still wrought with heathenry & disease. You call for peace while slaughtering civilians. WW1 was supposed to be the war to end all wars. What happened? If you've really learned something, then why are you still killing each other over frivilities, conning your way through life, trying to stay ahead of "the other guy", regardless if he's in competition with you or not. The world runs on hypocracy, deception, mistrust, and malice. Yeah, look where it's leading you.

I think it was explained in some Mayan show that I watched a couple of weeks ago. That 2012 is just going to be the end of a Solar cycle and a new one will begin right after.
The sun is a star like tons of others that is evolving, so it changes every thousand of years and in 2012 is one of those years where a new cycle will begin.

Just a random question. Why does the U.S. not use metric?
As a science student, I see it as a handicap. I've been taught the U.S. Customary System (and had constantly reinforced) in my formative years, and thus can automatically visualize in those units.
But I find visualizing in metric quantities to be difficult, and apparently a lot of science students I know feel the same way.
So what is the justification for the United States keeping the U.S. Customary System? I really can't see one for it. If anything, it's an extra and inconvenient step that we have to go through when we want to relay physical quantities to our friends in other countries.
Just something that popped into my head while I was making some tea.

So hypernationalism. Got it. But it's not really a rational reason, which is what I would like.

It's because the US is so large & industrious, other countries are forced to play America's game. So, yeah, ignorance. The US just throwin it's weight around.

Not really seeing as the US is the only nation that uses the old English system of measurement and no other country does. When doing science, US scientist have to use the metric system so it's not them throwing our weight around or ignorance. It's just stubbornness. So because no one else uses it, it's not playing America's game, in fact, no one is

I liked the part where it said "if it looks like the world is ending, just move to Australia". Convenient, cause I'm already here lol

Absolutely. I've been looking forward to this movie for months. And 80% of the commercials showed the super actiony disaster scenes.
What do I see when I go to watch it? 25% world disaster, 75% sub-plots.
Oh no, does your son love his step does more than he loves you? And can you not decide whether you still love your ex husband or not? yeah, hi.... THE WORLD IS FUCKING ENDING.
California splitting and Yellowstone erupting were great and all, just that were wasn't enough of it.

Reminds me of GI Joe, which I finally saw the other day. Several of the big "OMG WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN????" plot segments were already ruined in the trailer...specifically, the Eiffel Tower collapse and Ripcord ejecting from the Nightraven...they need to stop that.
There were only a couple of surprises I didn't see coming, but a lot of it was pretty much in the trailer.

So space shuttle Atlantis blasts off, with worms, wood, & butterflies? To test how lack of Gravity affects cell growth.
Without Gravity's guidance, these things will become cancerous, growing out of control. Not to mention plants thrive in radioactivity.
Plus, it's not safe up there with the meteor shower goin on eh. Scientists aren't very smart...

Yay! I've just finished Final Fantasy 5 (for the first time) and really enjoyed it.
Now I have Final Fantasy 7 and 9 to play through. I own both but haven't played through them. I'll go with 7 next and see if it's as awesome as most make out.
