My patience has worn to non-existant, it has been nearly a decade since I came out, at the age of 13. I am now 21, I have given everyone enough time to get over it, they have chosen to instead say things as recent as today as, " I don't want to understand because I don't want to be that way".
I even told them that it has been too long for them to still be acting this way and their response is, "it hasn't been that long, you're just exaggerating".
So I'm going to have to stop caring, there is no other viable way for me to move forward, time has not softened them, their opinions have not changed.
You should disregard them partially (but not wholly), and before the next family meeting; clearly announce to everyone that talk about sexuality (or anything for that matter) should be banned because you can't stand such narrow-mindedness any longer. As for the next presents, the best one you can possibly offer for everyone is a book that enlightens them about how gay people are equal to straight people. If that doesn't work (impossible), try another approach and become a four-armed nazi zombie with two noses. Ask them how do they feel now. Seriously though, try the former. There was a guide in today's evening paper that instructed not to talk things like sexuality or employment in the Christmas table, a little about simple behavior. Your family did one of the worst mistakes really, sorry about that. Just keep in mind that they can surely learn (in time).
