Well the only way it can be possibly successful is if have had 3 winning spots, everyone gets a DP (What the fuck is a dragon point these days) for participating, 1st gets 3, 2nd get 2, 3rd gets 1 and if we had enough photoshoppers to actually have a competition.

Why change the rules when it was just fine to begin with? Yes, cheap points are cheap, but thats what we competed for. We were having fun and we were being creative. The points were there for the winners to have a sense of accomplishment. Hell, everyone was a winner. People joined cause they got something out of it. New ideas, new obstacles, and some DP's on the side for an added bonus. Why take that out?

To put the focus back on genuine community spirit, creativity, and input.

If the SOTW machine breaks down for the sole reason of there not being cheap points on offer, that's really not cool. As noted, there's a long running sig making thread in the Fan Submission forum where points have never been on offer and I think that's fantastic. Those guys are doing it for legit fun. I would much rather see that than the same handful of people showing up for no other reason than to get a cheap rank up, because that is genuine community. Giving prize points in SOTW was a change to the original SOTW format, and I think it's a real shame that has eclipsed what should be a fun idea unto itself. It wasn't a bad idea, but it clearly overwhelmed things and just burrowed deeper into itself.

Some people haven't been aware of the points that are on offer (some quite easy to get). That's disappointing, because they're typically directly related to other community-centric activities across the various areas of the site. They're not as common as they were in fairly recent times and people have noted that, but I think that just speaks to how much of a distraction they became for some.

It's all about a strong MKOmmunity. SOTW was cool. Do it because it's cool. If you want to rank up on MKO, you just need to be a part of MKO.
