And since when do english Canadians care about us? I work in a hotel, and I encounter more english people than french ones, and most english Canadians dont know shit about us. They dont care about our language, nor our culture or history, they just want us to adapt to their culture. In the past five years I've met lots of Americans and lots of english Canadians, and in general I have to say I prefer the Americans. Oh and Ontarians are the worse Canadians of all, in contrast with people from Alberta who are always really nice and laid-back. I'm talking from experience.

Julien, you can say Christmas/Noel, nobody's stopping you, or your kids. Yes, some commercials/public announcements say "Happy Holidays," but it's just easier than trying to acknowledge every culture in Quebec, because there is more than just one culture in Quebec. The PQ wants to change that, something that I have a huge problem with, especially since Canada's considered a very multi-cultural and open society. Pauline Marois is trying to enforce a law that would prevent school children from speaking any other language in schools that isn't French; that is 1000 times worse than not being able to say "Merry Christmas/Joyeux Noel." Also, Kirpan-carriers are Sikhs, not Muslims, and the religious thing is a small part of the larger plan of the PQ to abolish the existence of other cultures that aren't French.
This is interesting, we're from the same place, and both experienced discrimination from the "other" side; I've been harassed by a lot of French Quebecois, right down to being told that I'm not Quebecois, despite being born and raised there, just because my origins aren't French. Every time I explain that to anybody outside of Quebec, they give me the weirdest of looks, and it's a great story for me to tell at parties. It's downright silly and insulting to me, as I was once proud to say that I am Quebecois, alongside my Italian heritage, and combined with my Canadian nationality. That's how divided people are in our home province, where it's language that dictates who hates who.

I don't know why the English Canadians you meet don't care about the French culture, as the ones that I've met in British Columbia are always thrilled to know that I speak French, and try to converse with me in French as a result. Personally, I believe that more French should be taught in the rest of Canada, but I also believe that more English should be taught in French schools. It's a problem on both sides that needs to be addressed, and making laws against learning or using another language isn't going to solve the problem. The English Canadians in other provinces do not have their own Bill 101s or the like (for the unfamiliar, Quebec has various laws forcing new immigrants to go to French schools, all new businesses having French names, all signs having French writing that is 3 times larger than English writing, and language police enforcing said laws). You work in a hotel, you know why you receive English tourists? They're visiting the province because they want to learn more about you. They don't want you to assimilate their culture, they want to be greeted openly. This whole concept of an English vs French war is silly. French isn't the only culture in Quebec, and Quebecers should be proud to call themselves Canadians. There shouldn't be a rift, and it's utter nonsense that people keep trying to create one.
The shooter is an idiot, and represents the worst of the English-speakers, no different from the FLQ for the French (for the uninformed, the FLQ were a Quebec terrorist group that kidnapped a British Trade Commissioner and Quebec's Minister of Labour, and executed them when their demands weren't met); do not judge English-speaking Quebecois based on the stupidity of one man.
Also, something I've learnt since moving to Western Canada; they typically learn more about the Amerindian cultures, ie, the real owners of the entire country, including Quebec. The French culture will never decrease to a level as low as theirs, and the likelyhood of that is on par with Quebec becoming its own country.

Marois wants that all immigrants learn french if they want to obtain their citizenship, which would be the same as asking someone to learn english to obtain US citizenship. Isn't it normal? Clearly you are from Montreal and you dont have a clue about what's going on in the rest of Québec. In Montreal it's 50% english 50% french, but travel to the Laurentides, Montérégie, Saguenay, etc.... people speak FRENCH. I speak english because since I'm a kid I like to watch tv shows in english and all and I really like this language... but my aunts, uncles, grandparents, most of my friends and their families - they know only a few words such as 'yes', 'no' and 'toaster'... and that's pretty much it. Go to the grocery store or to the mall here (outside Montreal) and everybody speak french.



More often than not they are on business trips and don't give a fuck about french. One man even yelled at me and insulted us once because we didn't have any Gazette, only le Journal de Montréal and LaPresse. He told me ''We're in Canada for God's sake! Are you guys retarded?''. Seriously I wanted to punch him in the face.

I don't like PC games cause you have to have certain specs to play it which costs more than a console on which you can play any game instantly without worrying about if your console is up the challenge. Maybe it's just that I don't want to pay more just to play a game. Not having to worry about anything when your playing on a console.

I would red box shit instead of wasting money, but red box never has the games and people like to herd over games from a different rexbox to another one without returning it to the one they originally got the game from.
