Derailing threads and generally making a nuisance of yourself is always going to be broadly frowned upon, much more so than someone who is enthusiastic about discussing things on a discussion forum.

Obviously it's a communal area and we don't want any one individual completely dominating the forum in an arbitrary manner. That said, any number attributed to posting limits is more applicably going to be a guideline, subject to review [-- that means don't be an idiot]. The General forum has the benefit of being open to substantial, different subjects. That's much more palatable than someone posting six, barely distinguished threads about MK2011 in the MK2011 forum on a day in 2011.

In this particular case, there's nothing to cry foul about.

Being interested in discussing general topics in the general forum is the entire nature of its existence. This should be the first thought anyone has when they're approaching a topic. Whether anyone likes it or not, this is a community, and topics are open to the entire community. If you want to talk around people, that's your business, but the forum is there for everyone and topics should be indulged for and by all.

It's a very broad, general rule, applicable on most message boards.
On a fundamental level, it's just common sense.

Maybe you (or whoever's in charge of the FAQ) should take the time to specify the flat "rules" and the malleable "guidelines". Like which are more likely to get users skulled/banned without warning and which ones... aren't. I've also noticed that "common sense" isn't as common as some people like to believe.
