There are potential flaws in every thing like this. That's why we're giving it a test run. We'll have to work out the kinks but we have to do it before we know how to improve it. Basically the mod meeting/voting isn't doing much good anymore when we don't see a real "want" in a user to be promoted for the right reasons. This way can work because we're getting the opinion of our forum director, a mod, a shadow priest, and a well known, well liked forum user. In addition to the weekly guest judge whose rank will vary from week to week.
I feel that putting people through these weekly challenges gives them more of an edge than someone the mods just pick in a meeting. This way they'll get to learn the responsibilities, and learn how things are done from those who do it or have done it everyday. The winner isn't guaranteed an SP position, and I'll have no problem deciding against both of the top two finalists if myself and the judges feel neither is ready to handle the responsibilities. Our main goal is to see someone really shine in this competition. I want to see someone win, someone who really wants it and deserves it and will be good at it. Will I see that? I can't say yet, but I'd rather try something new, and different, and exciting than try nothing at all.

That's all well and good, because I see the same problems that you see (lack of potential agreeable candidates being a big one), however I just fear that that playing field won't be even from challenge to challenge, depending on what specifically the challenge is.
"But a good candidate should be able to overcome that!" (not necessarily putting words in your mouth, this is hypothetical)
True, but what if the guest judge has biases? That can tip the scales for or against someone, or will their say not be as great (something I recommend, only using them for tiebreakers if vote-offs are 2-2).
"The winner isn't guaranteed an SP position, and I'll have no problem deciding against both of the top two finalists if myself and the judges feel neither is ready to handle the responsibilities."
Bad move. If you're going to run this competition and then wind up not picking either of the finalists, that's going to:
A- Render the entire competition to be a waste of time.
B- Leave a very sour taste in the mouths of the finalists, because they went through all of that for nothing.
C- Be a bad PR (no pun intended) move on the part of the judge panel, as you guys would be saying that nobody satisfies what you guys are looking for and as such would discourage people from entering a future competition of this nature.
Now, I don't mean to be "questioning" you or your decisions or actions, as you are above me on the food chain here, but somehow I have a feeling that the end result of this competition will do more harm than good. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm more than welcoming your opinions on this. The judges and myself will be needing all the feedback we can possibly get on this. The most important area I want to talk about though is the final winner. As I said, I want so badly to see someone win. I have every bit of confidence that we'll get a great new SP out of this, but unfortunately the nature of the beast is that MKO needs someone dedicated. SPs need to be dedicated just like moderators. As you know since you are an SP. If it came down to two candidates who the judges and I do not feel comfortable promoting than I don't see what other decision we have. Pick the better of the two and hope for the best? I so wish it could be that easy. i really do. I'd love to be able to do that and feel comfortable with it. Unfortunately we have to remember that that excuse won't fly with Bishop. If someone isn't the winner of this competition it's not their failure, it's ours.
You knew when you were asked to take on the a role as an SP that you were ready for it. Not everyone can say that, as there have been people who have turned down the part. Which is why I feel that this contest can be a real success. We're not blindly asking someone to take on responsibilities by how they act on the board. We're seeking out people who want the position. Who want the responsibilities. The challenges, are all different. I think in the end it would be astonishing to find someone who wasn't ready and able, but we can't completely rule everything out. I really just don't want anyone to think that we're expecting them to fail or that we have outrageous standards. Even if worse comes to worse and neither really shines, that doesn't mean that I personally am going to stop working with them. I've worked with quite a few SPs and I created several training scenarios for MB before she was promoted to PG.
