So anyways, it's official, my Dad is getting remarried. I'm so at a loss as to how I should feel about this. Both my sister and I agree it's way too soon to do that, in so many ways. First off, it's only been 4 years since my Mom died, and he already wants to close that chapter of his life and start something new? Also, he hasn't even been dating this woman for a full year yet, and they want to get married? It all seems to fast too me. On the other hand, she's a great woman, lots of fun to be with and talk to, and she owns an advertising agency, so it's not like she's after my Dad's money. She really makes my Dad happy, too. So I really still don't know if I should be happy for him or if it's rational to be upset about it.

Anyone else go through anything similar?

I don't think so much of it being too soon, I think you're afraid of this woman "replacing" your mom in your dad's eyes and heart. Which, yea, I could understand. My parents have been separated for 6 years now (divorced for over 5) and are now both in steady relationships. Of course, the guy my mom is with is a prick and the woman my dad is seeing has 3 extremely bratty kids, but they make my parents happy, so I suppose I'm OK with it. Anyway, I've gone off on a tangent, so I'll get back on topic. My advice to you is that you should be happy for him, because he's happy. However, you are right to be upset about it... Just keep that inside.

Personally, if I were your dad, I would date this lady a little bit more and get to know her better, before I make any vital decisions that could have significant consequences. But hey, it seems you like this lady so she cant be that bad of a wife/mum.....but you can never know unless you get to know her a little bit more.

People arnt always what they seem to be when you first meet them. I've noticed this many times before. For example, I know a person that seemed to be very nice, but as time went by and the better I got to the person, I eventually discovered the person wasnt so nice.

To be fair, only mods can see who's a clone and who isn't; you can't blame him for trying to be helpful in that sense. You might as well be telling all users who ask newbies to look at the FAQ and wish them well that they look like idiots too when we find out the newbie's a clone (and it's always the same handful of users too).
I have to admit that when Ryan does this stuff, it bugs me too, but let's not destroy his self-esteem now. Ryan, we appreciate the help, but don't trouble yourself with our jobs; all it does is cause trouble for yourself, as you can see.

Be happy for your dad; I admit that I believe he should have waited before proposing to this new woman, but look at it from his perspective; his closest friend, the one person who he confided in all of his secrets, and gave all of his love to, is gone, and has been for four years, which must've been the most miserable years of his entire life since he's met your mother; this new woman must've been the first sight of joy he's had in a while. Four years isn't much time, but given that he spent 3 years (at most 1095 days) thinking about her and trying to move on, I would think it's time he be happy. I know that you and your sister loved your mom a lot, but your dad probably thought the world of her to decide to spend the rest of his life with her too.
Your dad will never forget your mom, and she will never be replaced in his heart, and in yours. Odds are, he's still thinking about her, to this very day, and he always will, no matter what. She's played too much of a part in all of your lives, and I'm sure he knows that. Given that this new woman and your dad haven't been together for a long time yet, I do suggest that you keep an eye on her, but don't be afraid to let her into your life, and don't assume she will try to replace your mom - this woman now has a lot of expectations to live up to, and I think that that'll be enough to keep her from doing anything dumb.
